That is where I escaped to these last few days and let me tell you it was nothing short of heavenly bliss. We had an absolute blast. If you ever get the chance to visit.......quite simply, you must! It is located in the beautiful tony countryside of Litchfield County in Washington, CT. Local residents in the area include Carolyn Roehm, Anne Bass, Oscar De La Renta, The Kissingers, Dustin Hoffman and many others. It is a quiet, serene elegant atmosphere and truly the perfect escape from a busy life.
Some recent patrons include The Clintons, Stephanie Seymour, Candace Bushnell, Carolyn Roehm, Martha (as she is known by her first name) and many other notables. It's no wonder that the Mayflower has earned the accolades that it has. This is not my first time and most certainly will not be my last! Everything was nothing short of perfect including perfect weather, however the food sadly fell short, I do hope they will get that right because it is too magnificent of a place to not be able to offer dining on par with everything else.
The rooms are all suites of some sort and are housed either in the main building or in a "cottage" aka most peoples dream home. The spa is in a separate building and everything is very convenient. We explored a little in the neighboring charming towns, did a little antiquing and discovered a few wonderful local restaurants. Thankfully I had my camera in tow and took a bunch of pictures to share with you. At one point my flash stopped working so a few pictures are a little dark but you get the idea, it is wonderful in every way and was just what I needed. Ready to take a peek? Here we go........
You first drive up to the gorgeous main building.....
The grounds are truly picture perfect!
My cottage (houses 3 suites)
My beautiful terrace overlooking the woods and a babbling brook.....
Upon entering the room, there is a small foyer.....
The living room...very elegant
Gorgeous furnishings, window treatments and even a ladies writing desk, love the onyx lamp!
And this salmon colored velvet sofa....LOVE!
My beautiful bedroom.......
A small bar...tres elegant!
Loved this beautiful ice bucket that was left filled with ice ready for champagne or wine!
LOVE these sconces....I am telling you the decor was magnificent and so up my alley!
They sure know how to make me feel welcome:)
MY room again.....and below were my friends rooms. Clearly not a bad room in the house!
The bathrooms with salmon silk wallpaper, beautiful prints and a steam shower.......my room had 2 bathrooms!
Loved these charming prints.
Would love to get these sconces for my own home!
Another "cottage"
And now the spa........which is B E A U T I F U L!!!!!!! (I took a lot of pictures from this room because I am obsessed with it and would love a house with just this one room)
These chaises which overlook the lake are sooooo comfy, gorgeous, we all fell asleep there, it is beyond relaxing!
This is a luncheon table where you can arrange to have lunch or a light buffet in the spa
Part of the changing room....the decor is so my taste, love how light and airy it all feels.
Changing rooms
Adore this fabric on the pillows, on this 14 foot custom sofa
This is the "relaxation room" a huge beautiful room, absolutely dreamy!!
Beyond the chaises and tall 15 foot windows lies the most beautiful lake set amongst the beautiful forest where seeing deer and swans is not at all unusual.
In the town, love the old fashioned pharmacy.....
The cherry blossoms were in full bloom and just breathtaking at every turn.......
This was such a charmer....beautiful front porch
Gorgeous stone and clapboard home (new but looks old)
So charming....loooove the old stone walls
Looks like a postcard, doesn't it?
Just perfection!
Have a "thing" for country signs!
Looking from the main building to the cottages and grounds
Elegant touches are everywhere at The Mayflower!
The elegant entrance in the main building
The beautiful dining room (just wish the food matched the decor)
How pretty is this gorgeous white house with a sea of yellow tulips?
Here is Carol Peck owner of the wonderful Good News Cafe, where we got about eight different dishes and shared everything, all of it was fantastic but the most notable was the lobster mac and cheese (not diet friendly) but a few bites was pure heaven!
We discovered this charming little cafe one morning for breakfast, it was so chic and wonderful! Called Martys or just "M".....
Tina! That place looks so dreamy that now I just want to stay home from work and pretend I'm at a spa! So glad you had a great time! One day I'm going to go on a girls trip with you! XO Have a great rest of the week!
ReplyDeleteTina- this looks so beautiful and so elegant and very much "you"! I am glad you had fun, the rooms are amazing as is the spa. I can see why you enjoyed it so much. Thanks for the recommendation, when I visit my sister in NY over the summer, maybe we can carve out a few days to go on a girls overnight at The Mayflower. Have a great day and glad you are back.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got away, it looks gorgeous! You had me at friends, spa and karaoke!! xo
ReplyDeleteOh Tina... thanks for the great tour! My Sista lives right near there and has also been a guest and loved it. I would sit in one of those gorgeous chaises in the spa with a good book, and never leave!!! How fun to have such a great place to visit with your good buddies.
ReplyDelete.. We have been going to the Mayflower for years, but usually do a lunch outside or in their Dining Room. It's been almost a year, so I'm sorry to hear the food was not terrific. It's a truly special place on earth. Friends call the decor Ralph Lauren on steriods. I'm so glad you got to enjoy the beautiful Litchfield countryside.

It sounds heavenly!! And I loved all the photos. What happened to the awesome painting in the relaxation room? It is missing in your photos and I think it really makes the room. I could totally use a few days there right now!!! We have an incredible spa down here called LAke Austin Spa that is always high in the rankings. I have been twice and once I actually shed some tears as I drove away...it was so perfect!
ReplyDeleteHope you are enjoying your Spring. It looks as though you are:)
The Mayflower! How perfect and Tina I can see how it would suit you and your taste!
ReplyDeleteIt is just what I need right now!

Tina, The Mayflower is stunning! I have been up there a few times but have never stayed. You lucky girl going for three days!!
ReplyDeleteI have, however, been to Carole Peck's many, many times - one of my favorite restaurants in Connecticut. We go up to Woodbury to shop for antiques and always plan lunch or dinner at her place. She used to organize a fabulous culinary trip to France which I have always dreamed of taking.
So happy you enjoyed your time my lovely state of Connecticut - it is pretty this time of year!
xoxo
Love it! This looks like my kind of retreat!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tour. I can't wait to visit someday. It is now on my bucket list! ~Delores
ReplyDeleteHi Tina, what beautiful pictures. We have been twice and love it. I agree the food needs improving but every other aspect makes this near perfect. The spa is my favorite and we have been to many, it is intimate and feels so private not like a factory. We live about 3 hours from there so its an easy drive, glad you had fun. Absolutely love your blog.
ReplyDeleteOh Tina, what a blissful little respite, just looking at this made me sit back, relax, and enjoy the photos. Sadly, as much as I love all of the Mayflower's offerings, I want to go to the Good News Cafe!
ReplyDeleteSending you a smile,
tp
PS: Loved your comment on the Abercrombie & Fitch post. :)
That room with the chintz canopy and curtains! Be still my heart!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful spa, I think it would be hard to leave and the coutryside is amazing. What a fun thing to do! I meet up with 4 college friends every year, we take turns deciding where to go, this year we are going to Kiawah Island, such a fun thing to "escape" with girlfriends.
ReplyDeleteTina, a well deserved rest at the spa. This spa looks amazing, I can see why it was voted number 1. Every room is beautiful and the spa itself is stunning, and calming.
ReplyDeleteI love visiting spas, with my sister and my husband. A great way to relax and enjoy some rest and relaxation.
Have a great day, Elizabeth
And, to think you meant the Mayflower in Washington DC !!
ReplyDeleteGoodness, this is just SO much better. Absolutely beautiful, Tina, and I had never heard of it. What a glorious post you've created for us today. Absolutely going to be on "The List" of places to visit someday. xx's
Omgosh I feel more relaxed just scrolling thru the images, What a wonderful place to visit with girlfriends, sounds like the perfect trip to me. Now you are all rejuvenated for SPRING!!!

Tina that looks amazing. And what a perfect time of year to go. I love everything, but agree that the spa looks heavenly!! Maybe you should put an addition on and recreate it ;)

How beautiful, your getaway sounds like so much fun, great friends, wine and a karaoke machine! The Mayflower has been on my list for sometime now, and this post makes me want to go right away, maybe for my birthday in July! Love your pictures.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful place to escape to and I'm definitely am going to try it. I've heard about it many times but now will go. Shame about the food though you would think putting that kind of money and effort into such a nice resort they would hire a decent chef.

Wow I can't believe you could leave that place! It's so beautiful and that spa - to die for! Heavenly. I love the picturesque gardens, the whole place looks glorious. So enjoy seeing gorgeous places like this the US, makes me want to move there.
ReplyDeletewow what a vacation! I love that you were able to take time with some GFs and get away! That is so in order for moi...the "cottage" was just beautiful, and those bedrooms simply amazing! Seems like they don't miss anything with all the special little touches. xo
ReplyDeleteAn enclosure that offers large panes of clear glass is dramatically beautiful, imparting a sense of elegance to the necessary task of taking a bath.Emerging with a sense of calm from a beautiful enclosure is easily worth a small investment.
