Good morning, well here in NY we got socked by a blizzard of epic proportions! We are covered in white everywhere you look! Guess be careful what you wish for....I was moaning and groaning about the lack of snow, well mother nature certainly delivered and showed me whose boss! I had to share some pictures because we all know everything looks prettier in snow! We were supposed to leave for Boston today but clearly we are not going, bummer but better to be safe. Hope if the snow has impacted you, you are safe and staying inside!
This batch was taken as the storm was cranking up.....
And then this is what we woke up to this morning........22 inches later!
Forgot to show you my new lantern for the front door.....from Arte de Mexico, love it! |
Next order of business I have a winner for the beautiful blue and white flower pot!
Congrats goes to......

This was my original post.....so it turned into a 2 for 1!
If you have been following me for a few weeks or for an entire year, by now you know I do love my orchids. They bring elegance and grace to any space they enter. Then you add a beautiful planter and the effect is dazzling. Every few months I go on an orchid binge and buy a dozen or so. Truth is even though they are pricier than a lot of other flowers, they actually end up being one of the best flower bargains because they last so long. Most cut flowers or flower plants last 2-4 weeks.
On average my orchids last I would say about 3 months, sometimes even more. So its a great investment that requires little upkeep except for water and a good amount of sun and a lot of love. I adore them in every room and my love for orchids is one reason why I buy so many planters! I don't think you can ever have enough:) Any fellow orchid lovers out there? I buy them from a local florist but have also picked them up at the Home Depot greenhouse. And you know what, they are really nice looking, good quality plants. So here is a little recap of my orchid buying day.....
It all starts with an island (a messy one) filled with all my containers. I would do this outside if it wasn't 10 degrees!
More containers and unloading the orchids........
First pair ready to go to powder room.....

Your orchids are gorgeous Tina, love them myself. I have several vareities in our master bath that bloom year after year they love the steam.
ReplyDeleteWe have three feet of snow and it's still coming down like gang busters so we won't be going anywhere for a while, it is pretty.

Debra~
Wow! You really got a ton of snow! We ended up with about 6 inches here in New Jersey!
ReplyDelete-Shelley
I do the same thing Tina!! There is a grocery store here that sells them at a very reasonable price, so I get them there usually. And I love the gardenia topiaries you have too. Don't those blooms smell divine? We have several bushes outside but I love the small indoor ones too. I am going to be on the lookout for some here.
ReplyDeleteThe snow looks beautiful! I am picturing you sipping tea by a crackling fire this morning and enjoying the quiet beauty. It is sunny here in TX and we are off to another lacrosse game:)
Thank you for your sweet, sweet comment yesterday . It was a hard day and you brightened it immensely with your kind ways.
Blessings, Kim
Your house looks so lovely.I was out yesterday before the storm(18 inches and counting here in Mass.)and couldn't resist the orchids on my trip to Lowes. The colors were beautiful and add such a nice brightness to the rooms in the winter.
ReplyDeleteDebbie
WOW! I won!!?? I am freaked out! I am sitting here blogging about my blizzard report and then saw you posted on your blizzard report....did no way expect to see my name as the winner of the flower pot! So excited!! I didn't realize you guys were getting hit with that much snow~what a ton you got! Kind of like us, its still snowing and blowing here, did it stop yet in NY? Your house looks incredible in the snow I have to say~its prettier than ever!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! Woo hoo!
DeleteTina wow! Now that is some snow. Congrats to Amy!
ReplyDeletecongrats to amy!
ReplyDeleteand what gorgeous enchantedsnowy images, tina. i LOVE that lantern. if you give me a boost, i will kiss it on the lips if ever i see it in person.
stay safe and warm, my friend! (hoping to snag a few good shots of my magical silver sodded forest today but really not wanting to get out of my 'internest' bed).
michele
Beautiful snow photos!
ReplyDeleteIt's just like looking out my door here in New Hampshire..without that gorgeous new home on the other side ;)
Enjoy a snowy day! I know I will!
Best,
Tim
Tina cannot believe how much snow you got! Last time I saw that was when we lived in Chicago about 6 years ago. Now we only get dustings which suits me just fine but I do agree everything looks prettier in the snow especially your incredible home. Looks right out of Downton Abby~
ReplyDeleteYour orchids are also so beautiful. I love them, buy them every now and then, havent' had a lot of luck so would welcome any tips you want to pass on. All of your containers are so perfect for them, you make it look easy! Stay safe and hope you enjoy the snow.
Love the snow pictures and the orchids. I also enjoy orchids in the house and collect containers for them. BTW, those topiaries are gardenias not magnolia.
ReplyDeleteOur local Kroger grocery has great orchids at very reasonable prices. They seem to only carry then in winter till about April here in the South. I get 4 months or so for each plant. I have never been able to get them to rebloom.
ReplyDeleteI like looking at your snow just dont like to drive in it.
Now following your beautiful blog, via Pam from My Back Porch to Yours. Enjoy that amazing snow!
ReplyDelete♥Linsey
The snow is amazing, my kids would have so much fun in it! Here its 70 and sunny!
ReplyDeleteYour home is a dream, looks like its from a bygone era, is it old or new? Being a newer follower I need to go back and educate myself. love your blog and style. Your orchids are all beautiful, loved seeing the glimpses of your amazing home. Curious how often do you water your orchids? I think I overwater and thats why they only last about a month. Thanks for the eye candy!
Great seeing you new house settle into the surrounds, especially nestled in with a white blanket! Aren't orchids the best magic? Mine bloom and rebloom and rebloom, the best! Cynthia
ReplyDeleteI love the orchids in your beautiful containers. Did you happen to see the Stubbs and Wooten slippers with the blue and white ginger jars? Thanks for the great photos. Tara
ReplyDeleteHi Tina, Oh my that is a whole bunch of snow, so gorgeous and your home is the perfect backdrop. I can tell you will be inside a very warm and lovely home full of beautiful orchids. Stay cozy and warm,
ReplyDeleteKathysue
TINA DEAREST! Oh my goodness...well, living here in Minnesota, I certainly know what this is all about! KEEP SAFE SWEET ONE! Anita
ReplyDeleteYour home looks so beautiful in the snow Tina. Just like a Christmas Card. I also love orchids. They are the only thing I have been successful to grow with my brown thumbs. Keep warm. Faith B
ReplyDeletePS I had to go back and look at the images of the snow one more time, I meant to tell you how beautiful your pictures are, great photography!
ReplyDeleteKS
What a breathtaking scene your home is in all that snow! So gorgeous! Living in the South we can only dream of such a beautiful snowfall. Love all the orchids and the new planters in your store, especially love the smaller cream pair that you put in your beautiful bathroom...just may have to pick up a pair of those! Stay safe and have a wonderful weekend Tina!
ReplyDeleteLauren
I use orchids, too. How fabulous to be snowed in in your orchid filled chateau...enjoy it by the fire, Tina!
ReplyDeleteYour snow photos of your home and grounds are beautiful! I can't imagine so much snow. Your orchids and containers look stunning throughout your home. Boston will have to wait with all that snow. You would have a problem just getting to your car with those drifts. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed the snow photos. Your home looks like a country French chateau, simply stunning..............
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'll enjoy your day cozy inside.

Hello Tina,
ReplyDeleteI adore orchids too, and have had great success with them re flowering for several years running now. My secret? Treat them mean and keep them keen! Very little water in summer and they pop up again the next year. Yours look stunning in those gorgeous planters.
Keep warm! We are possibly due some of your snow here in England, but not such quantities!
Sophia
Tina, love your orchids. My granddaddy use to grow orchids in a hothouse he built just as a hobby. When you place the orchids in a container, what are the next steps to finishing the look?Do you just put moss around the top?
ReplyDeleteI couldn't reply earlier, it wasn't working? I love orchids too and you are right, they are worth the investment! I love the cherry blossoms on the foyer table and was thinking I would surround it with several more blue and white jars!!! I ADORE the wallpaper in your powder room. The snow pictures are amazing. It is so pretty....for awhile. "Be careful what you wish for":):) Have a good weekend, sorry you didnt get to go to Boston. XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteI never tire of looking at images of your gorgeous home, it looks so pretty all dressed in snow.
ReplyDeleteI'm a avid orchid grower too, I've got a few that have to be at least 10 years old. With the right care and sun light they really are quite hardy plants.
Have a great day Tina and stay warm!
Lisa
Wow, did you get a lot of snow. We got 12" and that was more than enough for me. My favorite indoor plans are succulents. Gave a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteHi, Tina...looks like you guys are frozen for a little while. But it's beautiful isn't it? I agree about the orchids, they are the best value over, but the elegance and drama they add is worth 10X the price. For us opulent girls (aka me) they are the perfect fresh flower for our homes. xx's
ReplyDeleteThe house looks beautiful! We don't get much snow in Los Angles lol. I also love your orchids, I tired them but I don't know how to take care of them very well.
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe all of the snow that fell. Your home looks so magical in the snow! I must say it really is breathtaking, but even better if you still have power! Our winter has been really mild and not a snowflake has fallen here. I always like it for a few days at least, but not looking good for it to happen this year. Like you said, be careful for what you wish for! Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteYour home is beautiful in its white blanket of snow. I enjoy all your photos. Nothing like the first day of clean white snow. Love all the info from you and readers about the orchids. I think I will scout one out for myself this week. Valerie
ReplyDeletehi Tina i laughed when i saw your chairs ...they gained weight overnight . the snow looks nice around your house it enhances the colours of your home... a plus tard.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great weekend to watch movies and eat a big bowl of chili...........stay safe and so glad us chicago folks have had another mild winter, thank you Jesus !
ReplyDeleteps. love Orchids too more so after seeing all the beautiful containers you use for them.... u inspire me !
Sharon
Hi Tina,
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful photo's you have sent this morning. I love snow, but the last few pictures was more than you needed or wanted I'm sure. Hope you stay warm and don't lose power. I love orchids and they look so beautiful in your containers. Actually love white flowers and seeing all this beauty around you will help you to enjoy the week-end.
Thanks always for sharing.
Marlene
Love orchids Tina... especially because they are so long lasting...
ReplyDeleteThe snow is unbelievable... i hope you are snuggled up inside and keeping warm...
Enjoy Sunday... xv
The pictures of your house and the snow look like a winter wonderland...cold but beautiful! Here in Sweet Home Alabama we're having gorgeous sunshine and very mild weather...being a Southern girl I just don't know if I could live in that cold climate but it is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteStay warm!
Good heavens, you all did get a bunch of snow! My brother is in Boston and he says it was just wild, I'm so glad you're safe and warm. The house is stunning, a winter tableau that is gorgeous. The orchids are also beautiful, they come in such an array of colors!
ReplyDeleteSending you a smile,
tp
WOW is right! Love orchids, but am always afraid to try my luck with them. I have a friend who always has them in her home. I would appreciate pointers on potting. Do you line your beautiful planters? As for the snow pics, I can onky say, wish I were there...just gorgeous! Be safe and enjoy!
ReplyDeleteEverything does look so much prettier covered in snow...it's just so magical! And my, what a gorgeous home you have! It is so funny isn't it...that sometimes we get a little more than we wished for...I know it's pretty to to look at but not so fun to endure. Stay safe and warm...hope you are able to get off to Boston soon!
ReplyDeleteI love orchids and have a few arrangements at home all the time. I am sometimes successful at making the blooms last. Other times, I am not. In fact, I recently brought home 2 Cymbidiums from Costco. The flowers on one just wilted away. The other one is doing very well. It seems a lot of your readers are great at tending to orchid plants. May I request for a few pointers, please.
ReplyDeleteYour home is so beautiful. I wouldn't mind being snow bound there! Just let me make some hot chocolate and cookies. I am also an orchid lover. There is a shop here in Raleigh, NC called Millie's Orchids. She heads to Florida, loads them up, and we buy them from her shop. She adds greenery in her arrangements which adds a lot to the overall look. Some little pots of fern or philadendrom -- use your imagination. She also adds more curly willow and ties them to the orchid stake with a pinch of moss. Amazingingly beautiful! I never tire of them. You're right.....they last forever! Thanks for posting such a wonderful blog. I have been following you for over a year and I'm always excited to see what you're doing.
ReplyDeleteI hope you were able to get an "orchid run" in before we got all this snow! The snow photos though "a little too close to home" are beautiful! It is so true about the flowering indoor plants, they are so economical. My Kalanchoe plants can last up to 6 months with very little care, and the white and green always elegant. Stay safe and warm tonight it will be in the teens!
ReplyDeleteThere it is! The snow you've been waiting for:) GORGEOUS photos Tina and I love all the flowers you have here today. I'm all about bringing the outdoors IN during the winter months, and those orchids are just perfect. I can't get them to re bloom however the flowers last for weeks, making them a worthwhile purchase. Your planters are so pretty.. and always perfectly arranged.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your snow days ahead!
Oh, I LOVE a good
ReplyDeleteblizzard, especially
if you can stay inside
and be cozy : ) Enjoy!
I have finally learned
how to care for orchids
and not kill them with
kindness.....they are truly
a fave in the bleak mid-
winter!
xo Suzanne
Holy cow!!!!!!!! I cannot believe all of this snow! It looks like a winter wonderland. I am sorry about your trip but I am sure that you are making the best of it all with a post of soup simmering, a few movies, games perhaps and book and a lot of strong coffee.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are safe, with power and enjoying it all.
I love you orchids!
Take care, Elizabeth
Your home is just beautiful, but in the snow it looks so much more enchanting! I hope you can get out and enjoy the snow...that's a lot of it! - Susan
ReplyDeleteBoy that snow sure did pile up! I guess it gave you a reason to stay in and work on orchids! I never can get them to live very long, even with the recommended ice cube per week. I will just enjoy looking at yours! - Tonya
ReplyDeleteOh the snow is so beautiful! It reminds me of my college days in Wisconsin and Chicago. Now that I am back in my desert home, we have to drive to the snow to ski! I love orchids as well and have been able to get a few of mine to re-bloom over the years. The ice cube thing never worked for me, instead I have what I call " water Wednesdays" where I take the plant with the plastic pot out of the container and run it under water until it is really wet. I then set it in the sink to drain as the Orchids don't like too much water. This has always worked really well for me. Stay warm in your beautiful home Tina! Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous of your snow, the photos of your house and grounds are beautiful. xo ebh
ReplyDeleteMy God Tina - just been reading about these storms in the paper today and thought of you. I have to say it may be epic proportions and wrecking havoc across the country, but is is bloody beautiful all the same! The photos you have posted are just breathtaking - your house, if I can call it that, looks like a chateau in France with all that lovely snow. It's like a storybook. So magical and beautiful and I wish I was there to see it all. Hope you are keeping warm and safe though. Thanks also for the tip on the orchids. I never repot mine, but maybe I should and they would last longer!
ReplyDeleteYour home is sooo pretty! You've done such a great job on it :)
ReplyDeleteBack to your post subject, I've yet to see any snowfall like that in my life!
As of yet, here in the NW, we've not got much snow to talk about at all! (Maybe I just jinxed us??!)
Beautiful, spectacular - the snow, your home, lantern and planters. Love, love. And please yes, as some others have mentioned, a more detailed orchid care guide would be great. And serious details on how you take them from their plastic planters into your exquisitely shaped planters? If only your store shipped internationally :-))
ReplyDeleteHow lovely for you to have at least one good snowfall every winter. I suppose if it snowed heavily all winter it might get rather trying, but one or two big ones must be magical. I hope you sent some to Utah as I will be over there to ski at the end of Feb! I can't wait as this has been a VERY long hot summer with lots of fires burning on our ski mountains :(
ReplyDeleteI love your orchids and planter containers. Am I right in thinking that you are just placing the pots in the containers and covering them with moss?
My sons (when they were little, and sometimes now we throw it in conversation) have a game called "same but different". And, your post is just a bit like that. You have weather threatening to be disastrous, but it's beautiful. The snow forecast was un-welcomed, but welcomed! Love it. The snow looks gorgeous. Hope it enjoyable inside and out! So grateful you are all safe!
ReplyDeleteAnd, your orchids add life amid the dreaded snowfall. I love it!
Your home is incredible. I am in awe of the beauty! And in the snow its just magical looking. Cannot believe how much snow you got. We have had a very mild winter (no complaints at all here) but my kids are longing for a big snowfall like that.
ReplyDeleteYour orchids are beautiful Tina. My sister owns a high end florist so I get all my flowers from her including orchids. I have learned the hard way you dont' need to do too much to them, and I do mist them with a water bottle every week. But you should spray from top of plant pointing down not directly on each petal or leaf. I dont' know if this is why they last so long but I normally get mine to stick around for a very long time. Your containers are beautiful. Enjoy the snow.
Have to say I didn't mind being stuck inside one bit yesterday. It was nice to be forced to stay home and enjoy the peace and quiet. Hope you did too!
ReplyDeleteLoving the cherry blossoms!!! real or NDI or Diane James? Always a fav! stay warm!
ReplyDeleteLove this post! Your house is gorgeous. I am very inspired, would love step by step instructions.
ReplyDeleteHi Tina!
ReplyDeleteNow, that's a lot of snow!!! Beautiful pictures, though...
I agree, orchids are soooo beautiful and you display them with such class :)
Have a wonderful day!
Nickiexo
First off…I cannot fathom that amount of snow! EVER! We just don't get it down here, of course! It really does make everything prettier! I love seeing my house in the snow…the three times that it has actually snowed here, LOL! Your home looks truly stunning in it! You have also inspired me to try my hand at orchids as I've always been scared of them! Take care and be safe in that weather!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice visit to your house I had today, and I didn't have to trudge around in all that snow, lol! Your house is beautiful, it's come such a long way, and now you're having fun with the pretty touches like flowers. You really look like you're truly enjoying your house and that's wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHow is all your carrera marble holding up? We're redoing our ensuite and I want a carrera countertop so badly on the vanity. I managed to find a beautiful carrera like tile for the floor but I'm adamant that I want the real thing on the counter. There's nothing like it, is there?
Enjoy your snowy Sunday!
Nicole
Tina--
ReplyDeleteI am a HUGE orchid fan for the very same reason--in the long run, they are a bargain--as they last for months with very little care and look beautiful!!
I have also started sending them (instead of arrangements that die in a week) to friends/family for special and sad occasions.
I just sent one to a friend whose sister died. I got it from a local florist near them that was recommended to me. When I called to place the order, the woman was so nice
and it was sent in a Guy Wolfe pot (yes, the kind Martha Stewart uses). It was a double stem tied with ribbon and moss about halfway down the stems and again at the bottom.
Gorgeous!! And it will (hopefully) remind her of her sister for the weeks ahead in a beautiful way.
I have even asked my husband to get me an orchid for my birthday, Valentine's & Mother's Day as they can be enjoyed for so much longer.
Thumbs up to Orchids!!!
Cindy
OMGosh! I would love to experience a snow storm. What a wonderland. Love the patio furniture. I can imagine how cozy it was inside. I would have ventured outside as you did because I'd be so curious of the silence and beauty. Thank you for braving the cold for us with these beautiful photos and congratulations to the lucky winner. :)
ReplyDeleteTina,
ReplyDeleteThose first photos of your house (before the 2 feet of snow!) are my absolutely favorite of your house. There is such an elegant, magical feel to them.
Now, orchids, I am with you. So many friends of mine say they don't know how to care for them, but I find them so easy. Water occasionally! And, I love them everywhere, too. I agree, they are economical when you think of how many weeks of fresh cut flowers you have to have to replace them.
Hope you're all snuggly and warm on your side of the water!
xoxo Elizabeth
OH my gosh Tina....cant believe all the snow....its very beautiful! I always like to bake when its that cold out side. Its been very chilly here too...I think it was in the 50s. Your orchid's are beautiful...they are my favorite also.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure I have seen a house look so beautiful in the snow! Between you and the photos my CT boarding school posted on FB I am yearning for us to get some snow in TX. I think I can keep dreaming :)
ReplyDeleteWhite orchids and snow - what a combination!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post... your house deserves its name...Enchanted home...it is truly a wonderland seen with its beautiful white cover. I am passionate about orchids, while living in Boston, we had an orchid greenhouse and i learned so much about orchids, went to orchid shows all over the world, purchased rare orchids.
ReplyDeleteHer in Connecticut, I unfortunately do not have a greenhouse but still have orchids in almost everyroom.
Oh my gosh Tina...the snow! BUT your home looks lovely in snow.
ReplyDeleteAre those Cherry Blossoms real and if so where did you find them this time of year?
I KILL orchids..I love them but have no luck with them whatsoever. I buy small ones at Trader Joes for $12 so I don't feel too bad when they kick the bucket!
Your home just gets prettier and prettier....so lush!
I hope you all are digging out!
xo
