Fabulously French!

Good morning!! If you have been following my blog for any reasonable amount of time, you know I am totally enamored with all things French. Particularly French decor, French architecture, French colors, French history. And then there is of course the gastronomic world of French food. Oh and the gorgeous language of France. And how could I leave out French fashion!! You get my point, every thing about France is just heavenly at least in my humble opinion and there are TOO MANY to list them all!  French decor is a huge inspiration to me and will continue to be as we finally move into the stages of planning out the decor for our new French inspired home.
I appreciate all aspects of French design from the most rustic, farm/country look that is so popular today all the way to the most formal and opulent castle worthy decadence (though not for me personally). Much to their credit, the French have great design nailed!
I have a huge collection of photos, way too many to put into one post but today is my ode to all the fabulousness that is French. Whether its a French chair, or a certain color palette, gorgeous paneling in a French style, whatever it might be that struck me, here is some of the inspiration I have gotten from beautiful French decor. What are your thoughts? Are you a fellow Francophile or do you like just bits and pieces? Is there any French influence in your home? Love to know!

You know I love this space, just look at my header! Kitchen bath ideas

So what are your thoughts on French decor? Is it a like or a love? Do you have any French influences in your own home or a particular look or element you love? Would love to know. Hope you have a great day...Au revior!

  2. Hello Tina:
    C'est magnifique!

Yes, like you, we do think that the French have such style. And here, once again, we are spoiled for choice. But, in particular, our eyes have been taken with the lovely Conversation Piece upholstered with such daring in Chinese Yellow with navy trim. Additionally, we covet that pretty 'chair' which we spied tucked into a bathroom.Perfect!

  3. I do love all things French! In my own home, I have a 19th century French daybed in my living room that I just adore. Big colorful pillows on it, make it a perfect place to curl up with a magazine or book.

Thank you for the birthday wishes, Tina!!

  4. This post was such a treat! I am an incurable Francophile and have lots of French touches in my home. In my second life I am going to live in a farmhouse in Provence. Its hard to choose but I think my favourite pics are the David Easton drawing room and the Betty Burgess kitchen. Have a lovely day x Sharon

  10. I love it all, I'm hard pressed picking just one thing or room! The French have a saying that you must buy like you're rich and wear like you're poor, in other words, buy the most luxurious thing you can afford and make it last. They have good furniture so durable that it is passed down from one generation to the next, and their closets contain very carefully chosen garments that work hard and can be mixed several ways, unlike us in North America where too often quantity trumps quality.

  12. Good morning Tina! I love the French design but honestly I don't think I have any influences in my home right now. Actually I take that back... my dining room table is of a French design! I bought it years ago from the Macy's clearance center for $300 and it's solid wood.

  13. French design is just our cup of tea! We adore all of the elements of French design. Can't get enough of the Betty Lou Phillips bathroom. The Michelle Allman dining area was the inspiration for Renee's dining area. Beautiful post! Wishing you a wonderful day.

  14. I am a big francophile myself Tina, and I was captivated by those round painted headboards by Watson! Gorgeous! I have quite a few of Betty Lou Phillips' books and enjoy her high end fench style of decorating too, even though I prefer a cottage approach for myself. Great post again!!

  16. I've always loved the quirky, whimsical french things. I especially love chinoiserie, the french take on asian. The French just have that je ne sais quoi that is hard to pin point. It's so French!
Great images as usual... I know your house will fit right in with them soon :)
Hope you are enjoying your summer!!

  17. Oooh, what an amazing lot of loveliness to gaze upon, it definitely brightens the rainy morning. While not exactly what anyone would call a Francophile, I do love just about everything that I see from Charles Faudree. I have long been fond of Pierre Deux, what a splendid talent for translating pattern to textiles and other surfaces!

Thank you for sharing all the beautiful styles, happy Tuesday to you. :)

  23. Gorgeous images!! I love french decor. We call my mom French Grandma because she loves all things french, but didn't want to be called grandma when my son was born. We joked that if it was french she would like it, hence the nickname, which has stuck. My poor kid is going to be so confused.

I can always count on you to bring
    some serious beauty and inspiration
into my day! I love French decor and
have incorporated more and more into
my home. I just bought a pair of antique
bergere chairs that I am having redone and
have a stunning linen fabric that I am using
they will go in my sitting room for my
master bedroom. Very French and this is
my favorite style, not too formal, not too rustic
    but just right:)
David Easton and Charles Faudree have perfected
this look so beautifully. I will definitely be coming
back here to visit this post again!

  31. I'm wondering...how do you incorporate the testosterone into your home design? Being the only gal I've had to scale back on the chandeliers, etc. I love french kitchens though. My favorite look is the black and white marble floors although I know they aren't cozy. Unfortunately, I'll probably never have a kitchen that large to have to worry about it. Hubby could always have a butler's pantry off the man cave and leave me to my fabulous kitchen floor. lol!

  32. Bonjour Tina,

I lean to more of the rustic French influence. I do own some Limoge China. I am half French ! But as far as decor just a touch..

  33. I did the French influence in our second last house, with lots of grey, beige and white, with plenty of pewter and a bit of black, lots of white limewashed furniture and heavy plain linens and pretty toiles. Now have moved into a more American influence. But we travel to France often, my husband is the Francophile in the family, but I prefer Spain I think and love Spanish food and lifestyle. These photos are amazing though.

  34. I, like you, love all things french. A french settee is one of my favorite pieces of furniture and I keep trying to find the perfect space. These images are fabulous, as always!!

  37. I have a marvelous French settee as part of the seating at my kitchen table & I love it! Then, I have a feminine French chair at my desk in the master bedroom & another style/shape French chair over in the sitting area for reading, taking a cup of tea, etc. I once was an devoted Anglophile, but more and more I'm becoming a Francophile. I do, however, like to mix styles & periods.

  40. French - just the word says it all! My children have French blood due to my husband's heritage, so I DO love all things French, especially the French pieces that we have inherited. When you are ready for the decorative accessories for your glorious home, I hope you will visit Sallea Antiques for a French box or two - all are glorious and worthy of a table at Versailles! P.S. My header on my blog is oh so French! as well.

  45. Tina,

I do I do love French decor. My home has a traditional french feel and moves deeper into it each year. Colors for sure blues, beiges, ivory, gray, lavender, yellows, periwinkle blue, brass etc.

Really what's not to like about it's gracefullness, historic, relaxed, fresh, muted colors, lavenders, crocheted lace, linen, flax muslin, oranges, coffee and chocolates!

Love Betty Lou Phillips design books too they ooze French appeal and this Bette wishes she could step into the pages of those books and live there too...lol!

  72. I have a very old small townhouse that does not lend itself to any particular style. I decided to go French country and painted the floors blue and the walls ivory. i found some nice dressers at a thrift store and painted them seafoam and then distressed them. I also painted my dining room table white and distressed it also. I added lots of flowers and some old silver pieces around the room. Took down the dining room curtains and added shutters. It's not very polished but still has that rustic French country feel. I love the way it looks and everyone is surprised when they walk in. Don't be afraid to think outside of the box ladies!!
