My favorite day of the week is upon me already? Wow, the weeks are flying faster than ever, anyone else feel that way? The house is moving along..there are days (weeks and sometimes, yes months) that I feel like the "queen of mean", Leona Helmsley, herself, God rest her soul, with all the yelling raised voices, the evil eye that I try to give, and the assertive tone I try to take on at the job site but being the basic good natured, easy going person I am at heart..this side of my personality is not natural to me, so it doesn't feel genuine nor does it come easy to take on such a persona..but let me say though we are making a lot of progress, the finishing stage can feel painstakingly slow at times. I did just yesterday, take new pictures which I hope to share with you tomorrow and there are some exciting updates! That said there is some progress to share and I do like to include  house progress on my Thursday posts so I am sorry I was unable to today, its been an unusually hectic week but hopefully will tomorrow. Now that we have addressed the house business,  onto the other little goodies that I have been enjoying.

HARDWARE. Went hardware shopping yesterday, and while at first I was a little overwhelmed, I quickly honed in on what I really liked and narrowed it down somewhat.Think I have settled on a finish and have ironically almost ruled out polished nickel whereas originally I was so set on using it. Make no mistake I LOVE polished nickel...but its not right for this kitchen. I had this "aha" moment when the floors were being installed...I was instantly transported to the Loire valley to a fabulous, slightly decaying chateau and an old limestone floored kitchen and what you didn't see was bright shiny nickel...what you did see was an antiqued finish! So,  I am thinking I am going to go with a antiqued/aged brass. Here are some of what I saw and liked.  Any favorites amongst the bunch? The ones I am leaning towards are the first few pictures...in person they are quite gorgeous, all hand forged and very antique looking. Please feel free to let me know your thoughts........

SCONCES. I also ordered some bathrooms scones for the kids and guest baths, not totally done but its a start, and it was great to get even a few under my belt! Since in these bathrooms, I have selected polished nickel for the faucets, I obviously went with polished nickel sconces, and kept it simple, classic and elegant. For the boys rooms, of course it had to be somewhat masculine and not too fussy.  See, progress is indeed being made!

PRETTY SOLUTIONS TO UGLY PROBLEMS. No one likes garbage and ugly green garbage cans are pretty unsightly. I was so happy to discover these attractive faux stone garbage can covers from Horchow. I mean if there is a pretty way to conceal a hideous green garbage can, this is it, don't you think?  They are made out of crushed stone, fiberglass and plastic. You can also wash them down with a hose...and they are weatherproof. and lightweight! What do you think?

MARBLE SUBWAYS. I have been thinking a lot lately about what I want to do with the back splash in my kitchen and have been leaning all along towards marble subways, possible over sized ones. In any case..the look is classic, understated and certainly timeless. Do you agree?

UNIQUE HOUSEWARMING GIFTS. I had to send someone who lives out of state a housewarming gift and racked my brain to come up with something unique, and came up with the the idea of stationary with a sketch of their newly built home printed on it....to say it was a hit is a major understatement. I have gotten three thank you's! I sent a package which included a 5x7 and a box of stationary cards. They just loved it! And after receiving an official thank you card  on the very stationary card I sent them, without tooting my own horn...I can see why! It's unique and almost surely something the recipient doesn't have...plus this company has other neat unique personalized great housewarming gift ideas! Click here for more.

COLORFUL DRINK WARE Saw these at both Horchow and Barneys and though they are kind of pricey I love the look, very Moroccan inspired..but aren't the colors amazing for summer entertaining? I love them.....even with the simplest plates these colors would just add so much zest and sparkle to any table! Put a great big arrangement of colorful flowers and you are all set! They could certainly inspire a great summer party theme!

A GREAT BOOK. I have to confess I haven't even gotten this yet but I read about it and instantly I knew I wanted it...the kind of book that kind of swept me away to the hills of Tuscany. Anything that can give me that "Under the Tuscan Sun" feeling albeit even for a few minutes..I am game for! This is a cookbook mind you but it sounds so wonderful and they had me at the cover! Its all about recipes from the proprietor of a 12th century castle in the Tuscan countryside that has now turned into a small country resort...and all recipes are based upon what they grow in the garden and what is found locally. Now granted I do not have the same luxuries but a girl can dream! (Available here at Rizzoli)

MONOGRAMMED SOAPS. You bet! I love monograms..but by now if you have been visiting me for any length of time you know that. I love love love these soaps. Have ordered from this company before....Carved Solutions..click here to visit. They make the most scrumptious monogrammed soaps and will pretty much customize to your liking, they do wonderful gift sets and now do a great little monogram candle! Check out their neat items......

A MUCH NEEDED GETAWAY. And what better way to end this post than with a great getaway vacation idea! We are hoping to go to Bermuda this year as we do almost every summer and visit the new Tucker's Point. Once you see the pictures you will see why we are so anxious to go! Set on over 200 acres, it is a premiere resort, private club and residential community. There is a hotel and spa and its a golfers paradise! Love the formal but relaxed decor (yes always paying close attention to that even when I go away..lol) What do you think? (Especially love the decor of the cabana and dining room...how chic)

Yes, I do think I could go and manage to stay a while! Well, that's what I am loving this week! Would love to know what you are loving this week! Hope you have a wonderful day!

  1. Beautiful, beautiful images. I am definitely NOT loving the weather here this week. We need warmth so badly and for it dry out! I am loving all the excitement about the royal wedding though and can't wait to watch it tomorrow!

  2. I am loving what you are loving again today. With the terrible weather we have been having here it is tempting to book a get-away to the Tucker's Point resort. The blue & white cabana, the wicker lounge chairs with the pink umbrellas are calling me.

  3. Oh, it's all gorgeous! I'd be hard pressed to pick handles, those are all very nice choices. I agree that polished nickel is not always suitable. I picked an antique iron finish for ours and I find it's a nice transition between the very traditional cupboards and the stainless steel appliances. I love the monogrammed soaps and candles, very chic! As for the marble backsplash, you can't go wrong, it is timeless.

I need a getaway too. Can you adopt me and take me with you? I promise I'll behave, lol!

  5. I don't know how you are doing it.... I am in the final stages (decorating) of an addition to our home.... and that has been overwhelming!!!! I cannot imagine the decisions you have had to make! I am looking forward to the next photographs. Take deep breathes, book your flight to Bermuda, and know that the antiqued brass will look astonishing in your kitchen.

The Bermuda getaway looks like the kind of place you might go to and not come back from haha. Love the soaps..great gift idea. Marble subways, a classic, have them in my master bath and each and every day I walk in there, love them as much as I did the day I put them in and going to get the cookbook, love cookbooks and Italian cooking is my favorite, thank you for the recommendation. Congratulations to the 2 llucky ladies who won!

  9. Congratulations to the lucky winnerss of your drawings. As for your brass I like the third image down since you have boys who I know won't always be as careful as Mom would like it won't show scratches. As for the sconces they're beautiful but do you really think your boys will notice? So pick what you like. You always pick the most beautiful things for Thursday and all those dreamy outdoor images have me dreaming!

  14. You amaze me with how many fabulous things you can put into one post! Of course, I love it all so you won't get any complaints from me! Yes, yes, yes on the marble subway tiles. I have marble countertops, but my subway tiles are not marble. Wish I would have gone this route in the first place! Bermuda?! I have always wanted to go. I do have a trip to Maui planned in a few months, so that will have to do. xo

  18. Tina,

Congrats to the lucky ladies! Sometimes our appearance projects one thing and our voice defines exactly what we mean and want. The power of being a woman is that we are multi-faceted and get the tasks, projects and jobs done exactly as our vision intended.

Love all of the above and great additions to my list too thanks! All of this visioning, hunting, gathering and completion calls for some time away to refresh for more visioning and a chance to feel all is well. Great post!

  19. I am loving that monogrammed candle, the colorful glasses and the square lamp shaded sconce.
I am also loving that fact that we will be spending the weekend on the coast - Bodega Bay - for a fisherman's festival. And the weather is supposed to be sunny and 70's.

  21. Tina, I love the antique brass hardware! I've been looking for drapery hardware in the same finish. I think it's interesting and timeless.

  24. May I please have your life for one day:)?
reading monograms............. I insist on hand monogramming as with engraving. Do you know of source for either/or? Here is kicker, has to be slightly affordable. Im thinking shop linen & my last engraving was not up to my LOOSE(im pretty laid back, though all may not agree) standards.
Tiffany does great job but I need smaller not in a store. Monogramming, am lost, need a place/person to recc. to clients.
LOVE everything you are chosen for new home. Oh but does the trash can hider roll:) hete?

  25. Good heavens, that image of Tucker's Point at sunset almost wiped every other image off my mind! Please, may I go now?

It is fun to hear you have more photos, I can't wait to see them. The Horchow trash can cover is very cool, what an enhancement that would be here at The Prepatorium, as well as many other places I can think of. I also like much of the hardware you showed, very elegant.

    Off for wedding watching,
    tp

  29. Great images and fun , great fun,to be honest Kitchen units are a thing of the past, no one really uses them anymore. You have to think more about this spanking brand new look as it does look a bit working class trying to be middle class or upper. Obviously that is offered as constructive criticism not otherwise. I think you need to source really authentic stuff. Its often much cheaper and looks ten times better. Last week I found A G.Plan sofa on a skip, draped new original material over it from the Victorian period and hey you got something really well buyilt and incredible. Try to stay off white, its old hat and lose the colourful drinkware in the future, try to find really old china cups that are all different, struff like wedgwood, much better effect.Never have engraved glasses just good plain oneds and dont spend money on them as glasses are meant to be broken.Hope thats helped.Im really glad I found your blog as its great fun and Ive passeds it on to all my Italian friends here in Italy. At the moment Im working on as Victorian hopuse in London. Ive painted the room Yellow in one of the original colours of the period albeit italian. I also found french comodes to act as small cupboards for the sitting room . They are fabulous and have marble tops. Both were 75 pounds in a junk shop but the owner could sell them on for 10,000 pounds. For the owners bedroom I found very cheap pastel prints in frames for only five pounds, plus prints of Cricket in victorian times.Im now installing a new carpet that I found in florence thats a bit threadbare but wonderful.
