Heavenly homes......come take a look!

Happy Wednesday! Glad I prepared this post a few days ago.....think I might have the flu or a virus. Tis the season!  Good day to be home, in bed, to rest and catch up. Be sure to read all about my first ever giveaway on the bottom of this post!  Ever since I can remember, even when I was very young...I loved looking at homes. Big homes, Little homes, as long as they were beautiful. Since I have become an adult my obsession has not waned, I still to this very day adore looking at homes, whether its just a casual drive by, real estate looking, home tours...give me any excuse to look at a beautiful home and I am so there!
Over recent years, while we were just starting to plan the building of our second home, I started collecting many images, from books, magazines and the web. I wanted to share some of that collection with you today....would love to know which is your personal favorite. If someone told you that tomorrow you have to move into one of these enchanting abodes, which would be your choice and why? As crazy as it might sound I might have to say that last little "cottage".....it is picture perfect, the style is right, it is historically correct and it has way more character than many many much larger homes. Great things do come in small packages! Enjoy the trip around the block and let me know which you would choose!

  2. dream cottage, tina....
I like the ditch colonial style as a cottage here in northern michigan...
unfortunately, we haven't many of that style in the area so I'm looking at other type's which I'll be posting about....
and I haven't even touched on the place in Chicago.. all in good time, though...
but you did good this time in giving credit when using other people's resources..that's a big issue discussed at length on Design*Sponge..
but there is all manner of blogging etiquette that new bloggers learn as they go....
    beautiful images...
    hope you're feeling better soon...

  3. The small French home with the gray/blue shutters would be my first choice, second would be the New England classic colonial. Going smaller appeals greatly to me after living large for half my life. Also the simplicity of the house is very appealing you just know the rooms inside has high ceilings and looks to be four-square, like that kind of floor plan.

I hope you feel better soon Tina, get plenty of rest!

    xx Debra,

  4. I must say that my favorite post is the window coverings!! I make drapes, so this was a treat for me to see. My husband says your blog is hard on his "old" eyes...the writing is too light. Just thought I'd throw that in. Your home is coming along just beautifully. THanks for sharing. Valarie

  6. What gorgeous houses! The island style shingle house with the black trim...if Im not mistaken that is on Kiawah Island and a client of mine brought me extensive pictures of it to use as inspiration for their new lake house.

  9. Wow- beautiful homes and stunning giveaway! As for the former, my favourite is the more understated Dutch colonial (#8)- gorgeous home. And the giveaway, I'm stunned at how amazing it is!!

  11. Love all the french homes above but would have to say either the ivy covered gem or the last one are my top two. I could easily see myself happily residing in either. Another wonderful blog....sigh, time to get back to work.
    Cheers

  12. Tina - hope you feel better soon. My daughter has been home for a couple of days with some sort of little bug. So much to choose from here and many I love. As you know, I love that Dutch colonial from Maureen's blog. Also love the smaller ivy covered stone homes.

  13. oh sigh.... so many to choose from. top favs are: the weathered shingle hamptons style home, the french style cottage covered in ivy, and the georgian style bricked townhome. i would take any of those. thankyouverymuch.

  14. oh my goodness these homes have me drooling! I just love all the inspiration you can acquire from so many cultures! Fabulous spread!

  15. I would happily drop my bags and move in to each of those beauties. Though...I'm really drawn to the classic colonial and Georgians!!

  16. In the South we fight vines. They strangle our azaleas, run up our walls and weave their way into to the attics, overnight. All that photosynthetic winding lets the water in, the wall paper starts to separate, and the walls start to peel. So, I am entirely against the vine covered houses, I can see the damage. Now, with RL's house, all those beautiful trees and shrubs right up against the front hall windows, make me think its dark. I'm on a practical streak this evening.
    Best,
    Liz

  18. Tina,

Sorry to hear you're under the weather. Green tea in big mug and cold fresh orange slices together will boost your immune system. Repeat a.m. and p.m. yum!

Thank you for the virtual parade of homes tour here. It's fabulous! How can you pick a favorite? The final photo of the limestone European influenced "cottage" appears to be my hearts desire at the moment. Subject to change of course.

These are all architecturally beautiful and remind me of how important learning the differences of these styles were during my architecture and landscape drafting classes years ago.

Fun tip: to learn any topic with volume like these homes is print or copy subjects (like these homes) and create flash cards and review often
everyday. Before you know it you can identify items in any subject.

This is such a treat to see these home truly they are stunning.

  19. I absolutely love all the homes & wish I could tour each and every one of them. There are elements of each that appeal to me, but I choose the last one--the limestone cottage.

  20. I am so glad that each of us in unique - it is so wonderful to see all the beautiful ways individuals see their home as being. It would be so boring if we all had the same house wouldn't it!! Lovely lovely photos!

  21. Wow! These are some mansions! Loving the French inspired stucco ones. I hope you feel better too. XX

  22. Loving all of these gorgeous homes, but I'd choose the stone colonial for my primary residence, the New England clapboard for my ocean front retreat, and the weather shingled Dutch country for my country getaway...if I'm dreaming, may as well dream big!!

  26. I hope you are feeling better soon! I love the Dutch colonials, the stone colonial, the French cottage, and the Georgian townhome. All are wonderful!

  27. I love the Hamptons style homes - I'm a big fan of coastal cottages. My second favorite style is the brownstown style townhome - having spent much of the past 18 years in Chicago, I love the older row houses in the gold coast district of Chicago.

  28. Great homes! My favorite post was when you got back from Paris & shared details of the City of Light! I can never get too many photos. I know I took over 800 pictures on a trip to the City. (Doesn't include side trips, bien sur!) My 2nd favorite is the first one on Timothy Corrigan. I stay well by chewing a chewable Vitamin C tab once after breakfast & once after dinner. It's kept me well many a winter - knock on wood!

  29. Hi Tina, They are all gorgeous homes but I think I would choose the French style with the blue shutters. I have seen photos of the inside of this house and it is fabulous. I hope you are feeling better soon. Take care.
