A bold lesson in geometry........

My architect gave me this beautiful colored rendering of our house which I am having framed as a memento, thought I would share it with you. He is really so talented.....it took awhile but we do love the finished product.

In today's decorating, you see it all...mixes of colors, patterns, styles and often times trends. It is almost as if the rule book has been thrown out. While I am more of a purist and tend to be a bit conventional when it comes to home decorating, I have seen many a quirky room that has caught my eye and that at times, I have concurred looks quite pretty. But, I am not sure if I would be ready to have a space like that in my own home. I prefer things quietly elegant, don't go bold very often and prefer more understated fabrics and papers.

That said, bold geometric shapes are making a big splash..you seem them on walls, in furniture frames, in mirrors, carpeting, vanities...there is not limit where you will find them. So today I salute this trend...it tends to be seen in more transitional/funky/modern homes and often you will see it in beach/coastal homes as well. It doesn't always have to be done in a modern or transitional way..you will see here some traditional rooms with geometric touches. As always, I love to know what you think, do you like the trend, could you live with the trend and last do you think its here to stay?

So what do you think? Boy, this IS a lively collection of rooms! Would you go bold and add a little geometric dash to any of the rooms in your house? I personally like it in accessories as opposed to a rug, or a piece of furniture or carpeting..think I could get tired of it but there is no doubt that many of the rooms above are fabulous looking! Hope you have an enchanted day!

  3. The rendering of your home is fabulous! Needs to be framed and hung...it is quite special! The images you've shown are fabulous. I especially like small spaces to have personality, they need it! The bathrooms with the wallpapering, the fabulous lighting fixtures, the great sinks, etc...are sheer perfection. I love a home with balance otherwise the spaces can become flat and adding a little life to bathrooms or a small foyer are a great way to add interest. Another great round up!

  4. I simply adore these geometrics! I love how designers are mixing them into even the most traditional rooms. (I spy a few uses of Imperial Trellis, which my study drapes are, in your images!)

And that rendering is gorgeous!! Do you mind sharing who your architect was? Would love to see more of their work.

  8. We are both big fans of geometrics, and actually have a number of pieces of art glass employing the style, in addition to textiles, paint, etc. I adore some of your photos, particularly the aqua and lime color scheme, that really resonates for some reason this morning.

Thank you for such lovely images!

  9. While I like a pop of color in rooms I do think the bold geometric trend is just that, a trend. If you really stop and look at some of those rooms with the loud geometric they’re going to date themselves very quickly. You have to ask yourself if you could actually live in those rooms comfortably, I think you’ll find you can’t. They rooms are great to see but I personally wouldn’t want to live in one.

Your rendering is wonderful. I did a sketch of our home after we purchased it and had it framed for my husbands birthday one year. You’re going to find you smile every time you look at it.

  25. I'm with you on keeping it to pillows and decorative accents. I find that the "look" is already old for me. I'll be glad when we're on to the next "new" thing. I'm not very trendy though so my opinion should be taken with a grain (or ten) of salt. *winks* And the artists rendition of your house is stunning! You must be so excited! Vanna

  27. The rendering of your house would be perfect worked into an grisaille mural with an imaginary landscape...in your dining room I would say.

  28. A truly beautiful architectural rendering!

  29. Tina, I absolutely love your rendering, and it is certainly a must to frame. Geometrics are a favorite of mine on pillows and small pieces such as covered benches, but the perfect space for this technique is on wallpaper in a small powder bath...just the right punch for these areas!!

  30. What a beautiful rendering! Just seeing what the finished space will look like will keep you going!

Love all of the images above, as many are in my dream files!!!

  31. I love all the images to look at, but personally I like bold geometrics in things that can be easily & inexpensively changed (such as pillows, accents, etc.). A powder room, however, lends itself well to larger doses of bold geometrics such as wallpaper.

  33. i love the rendering of your home - it's going to be absolutely stunning when finished

Love the rooms you've shared - my two favorites are the Meg Braff living room and the Ashley Whittaker foyer.

  34. Tina,

Your new home rendering calls for a gallery wall of it's own. With photo's of loved ones and special events that will take place from this point on. Very exciting indeed!

I like the trend, but I could live with the trend in subtle touches. I feel it's a break and feels very light for the spring and summer months ahead. Last, do you think it's here to stay? I think it comes at a time when we need to shake things up a bit and feel energized by bold colors and shapes with a temporary fix on it. Especially as we lose shelter magazines (in hand) and move into the digital pace of doing more things (which I love).

  35. I really enjoyed all of these. Some patterns seemed to busy for my taste. I love these, but I am not sure I could live in a space like this. Your taste in more of a quiet elegance is what I prefer. To me it makes a home so inviting. I love seeing elegance and not so bold colors. I feel it adds to the richness of a room. An escape to places like these for vacation wouldn't be so bad. :)
