Hi there. How is your week going? Mine is going well...despite being down
one day from a migraine, its been peachy. Been making major progress on
the home front. Ordering my carpet for my bedroom...so excited! Ordered
furniture for loggia....doubly excited! Got a new pair of ginger
jars...woo hoo! So lets get started with whats happening in my little
corner of the world......I am (clearly) in many directions here, a little bit of this and a bit of that......sit down this is a long one:)
You know I love sharing great recipes....tried these this weekend and let me just say they are worth making...absolutely DE-LISH!

Jerusalem Artichokes, Fennel and Porcini Mushroom Tartlets
*serves 4- 4-5 Jerusalem artichokes, peeled and sliced into rondelles (round slices)
- 1 fennel, sliced
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 garlic clove, sliced finely
- 450 g/ 1 pound cèpes/porcini mushrooms (or any of your favourite mushrooms)
- 1 glass of red wine (plus you can add 1 more glass of red wine to sip while you make this) DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP..VERY IMPORTANT! added by me
- A handful of chopped fresh parsley
- 1 roll puff pastry (230 g/ 1/2 pound) or you can make your home-made version here
- Olive oil (for frying)
- 30 g/ 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 slices of country bread (discard the crust, place the bread in a food processor to get breadcrumbs)
- Parmesan shavings (I went generous here)
- Coarse salt and black pepper
- Peel Jerusalem artichokes, slice them into rondelles/round slices. Slice fennel coarsely. In a frying pan, heat 1 tbsp olive oil, fry the vegetables on a medium heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring frequently. Season with coarse salt and pepper. The vegetables should be cooked yet on the crunchy side.
- Preheat the oven to 180 °C/ 350°F.
- Prepare the pastry base. Cut out 4 circles with a pastry cutter (I use a bowl to draw the circles) of approx 10-12 cm (3-5 inches). Prick pastry with a fork all over, place on a parchment-lined baking tray, and cover with a another piece of parchment paper. To avoid them to puff up too much, place another baking tray on top (or any rectangle shaped cake tin, grill etc) for 10 minutes. Then remove the parchment paper with the added weight and bake them bare for another 6-7 minutes, or until golden.
- While the pastry is in the oven, heat some olive oil and start frying the chopped onion and garlic for 5 minutes on a medium heat. Add the breadcrumbs and continue frying (add a bit of olive oil if it is too dry) until all the ingredients are golden and slightly crunchy. Set aside.
- Chop the mushrooms finely, save 2 or 3 full mushrooms to garnish in the end. In a frying pan, heat 1 tbsp olive oil, fry the mushrooms for 5 minutes, season with salt and pepper, add red wine and leave to reduce for about 2 minutes. Set aside. Fry the remaining mushrooms (coarsely chopped) for a few minutes in 1 tbsp butter.
- When the pastry is ready, garnish with the red wine mushrooms, followed by the Jerusalem artichokes and fennel, a few coarsely chopped mushrooms. Return to oven for 2 minutes, just to reheat slightly. Garnish with fresh parsley, a small pinch of coarse salt and Parmesan shavings. Serve immediately.
Fun group! Looks like a great party to me!
Highlights......beautiful!
All of her pictures were taken by photographer, Will Cadena.
The gardenia topiaries are large but are look great on my island......with my giant round bowl in the center
Love fresh fruit.....we always have it around here. Made up this small little fruit tray for friends stopping by....
Bedroom selections narrowing down, just about to make a final decision...........
How amazing is this? I am DETERMINED to use it somewhere!
Then I found this! Love it......
I loooove this fabric. Its like gorgeous leopard marrying Ms. gray blue and this is their perfect love child....I think on the chairs, its going be beautiful.
These poor pillows with their threadbare Scalamandre fabric (my first major fabric splurge) are get this.....22 YEARS OLD! My first apt. when my son was 2 years old is when I got these made! I cannot believe they are still around:) They are virtual antiques at this point!
Say hello to Lady Ginger, my newest inductee to my ginger jar family...... |
They can be found in my online store click here
Things are blooming around here!
First bloom!
Filled my really big dough bowl with this pretty potted flower arrangment
Things are blooming around here!
My bloggy friend Pinky, sent me this saying and I quote "she thinks my husband and I would love this". Ugh....that's a serious understatement. But I can imagine its the price of a mid sized home! However it is fun to dream and when you dream....might as well dream big, right? In this case literally and figuratively. So for all of you whose husbands are retired and "hang around" a bit more than you might like, here is your answer. Feast your eyes on this, a magical cure to get your husband out of your hair on a permanent basis:) You REALLY have to see this........
And finally a little store biz...I am really into decorative boxes lately. The great thing is their versatility, they are wonderful atop a stack of coffee table books on a coffee table, nice on a console next to a pair of lamps, a pair work beautifully on a dining table, and I love them on end tables and nightstands. So I added a bunch of beautiful tole and porcelain and ormolu decorative boxes to my site. They can be found under porcelains, click here. Take a look........
This beautiful new ginger jar is en route to my online shop within the next few weeks. Its a love for me! Love the shape, the foo dog top...its a keeper!
Sorry to hear you had to endure a migraine, they are just so terrible. I always feel as if I've missed an entire day. You could be a florist too, in addition to author, store owner, chef, party hostess, t.v. personality and blogger! My arrangements do not look like that. I'm hopeless when it comes to that. How fun is that red carpet party? They look like celebrities! xo
ReplyDeleteLove that party that your friend hosted! Fun! You my dear are a terrific cook! I'll have to try that recipe! I'm always looking for new recipes for my hubby to try since he really loves to cook! Yum! Great new finds for your store! You are on a roll! Glad that you are feeling better! XO
ReplyDeleteMigraines.... the bain of my existence! Take care of yourself.
ReplyDeleteI have to tell you, I am just loving everything about your bedroom!
I can't imagine how excited you must be.
As I look at your plantings in the dough bowl, please tell me/us,
Are the flowers still in their original pots? Have you lined the bowl?
After all, I do happen to have two stunning dough bowls that I adore!
Tina, everyone compliments them!
~Cheryl
Your kitchen makes my heart go pitter patter. I adore the marble.
ReplyDeleteI love your plant. How did you get it to bloom. I brought mine in for the winter and it hasn't bloomed yet! Ann admucha@aol.com
ReplyDeleteok food looks YUMMO - and that red carpet party - WHY didn't i think of that for one of my girls nights? (i host a girls night once a month at my place) - NEXT TIME!
ReplyDeleteGlad your migraine was short lived. My husband use to have them for days, not so much now. Love, love, love the dress. Perfect for spring. Beautiful gardenia topiaries and they look great in the blue and white on your island. Great fabric selections Tina. Lovely items in the shop. Oh and what a great idea for a party. Those people sure look like they were enjoying the evening!

I meant to comment last week, your recipes for the pesto/feta dip and the caesar salad dressing were divine - I read your post as I was about to head to the store, and I made both of them that night! I must admit, I made the caesar recipe with no anchovies (although you said that you can't taste them). Still delicious!
ReplyDeleteFunny, I have been very into flowers and such since Christmas is over, perhaps to add a bit of color and replace the interesting Christmas arrangements I had out. I found a lovely flowering heather plant at Whole Foods and that little dash of purple in my white kitchen looks great.
Enjoy the rest of your week!
Holly
That recipe sounds wonderful...and love the dress you bought.....and the Candace fabric...it will look amazing on your chair. I need to replace my flowers in my kitchen and living room....It does add a little sparkle to the house. My husband and I are going to see a movie this weekend....let you know which one we go see.
ReplyDeleteAs a fellow migraine sufferer I know the agony they bring, I'm so glad it didn't last forever. Like you, I have been looking at spring styles, something to make the cold feel a touch less brutal! The recipe looks yumalicious (as they always do here), and I am loving the topiaries!
ReplyDeleteSending you a smile,
tp
Tina,
ReplyDeleteI love your mid-week random post!!Always full of fun information. The blooms in the kitchen are magnificient. There is nothing better than fresh plants and flowers and then you add blue and white containers, sheer perfection.
It's all in the DETAILS!! You are a master at covering the details. I wrote my post on this very subject today!!
Happy Thursday,
Kathysue
Where do I begin! I love your taste in clothes as much as I do in home design. That dress is so beautiful! Maybe wear it for a special Valentines day dinner? Great tops too. Your flowers look perfect, those topiaires are so pretty and I bet them smell great. Your bedroom will be a dream hope we get to see the finished product!
ReplyDeleteLast the movie trailer is something we will see tonight, we both love foreign movies more than American films so always looking for a good one. Thank you for the recommendation and speaking of movies, your readers red carpet event looks like such fun, they all look so glamorous and what a fun and great party idea!
I'm definitely trying the tartlets. Absolutely love topiaries...and the Gardenia ones are fabulous. Your kitchen must be smelling AHHmazing when you walk in! I always have fresh flowers in my office to brighten up my desk & day. The leopard fabric is perfect for the chairs. "The Well Digger's Daughter" has been on my "to see" movie list for quite a while. Just got a chance earlier this week to watch it and I must agree with you....beautiful scenery, a quaint & simple movie. I noticed it was a very calm & quiet movie. I highly recommend it. Well! That outdoor tv is really something else! My DH is NOT going to see that, otherwise we'll be digging a hole next to the pool, so he can watch it in the summer, lol. Ahhh, decorative tole boxes, love them!
ReplyDeleteLove the gardenia!! My favorite flower :)
ReplyDeleteThat movie looks so beautiful, the music, scenery and french language are a winning combination. Love your new dress. All the flowers are just beautiful, agree they are a great way to brighten those winter blues. I buy fresh flowers every week from Whole Foods.
ReplyDeleteTina, your kitchen takes my breath away, I would love to see a post just on your kitchen! Please!! It is really a sight for those of us who can't get enough of beautiful kitchens.
Love your new items and that dough bowl with the flowers is truly spectacular, I have to try that!
Tina, You are so talented! Love your plants. Can you please tell the name of your bedroom carpet? Would love something like that in my guest room. Penny K
ReplyDeleteTina, your talents are limitless! You are such a talented designer, you cook, make beautiful flowers, write beautifully, entertain with such panache, you do it all! I also love the new dress. So feminine!
ReplyDeleteThe bedroom is going to be GORGEOUS! I love the blue gray leopard for the chairs, don't hesitate! And that chinoiserie, is it linen? Very pretty.
Seeing all the beautiful floral arrangements makes me want to bring out my blue and white and go buy flowers! My house also feels a little empty without all the holiday decor. And flowers are a mood lifter, I do agree.
That giant outside TV is unreal. My husband and his football obsessed friends would pitch a tent and live out there, haha.
Love the red carpet party, a friend does a small dinner party for the Oscars and its such a fun excuse to get dressed up and play "dress up and make believe". Great post, Tina.
The fresh flowers.. love them and I'll be filling my dough bowl and blue and white vases soon as I have a luncheon coming up tomorrow. Your fabric choices are just gorgeous and will look perfect on the chairs. I am hoping to see these movies.. don't know where the time goes, but I'm behind on my reading and movie watching! Have a fun day Tina!
ReplyDeleteWhen I see the title "Mid Week Musings" I know I am about to read another great Tina post...I am not sure what that says about my life, but they are the highlight of my week!!! Gorgeous fresh flowers, movie recommendations, incredible decorating...what more could I ask for?
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day trying to stay warm...I am about to bundle up to go do errands. xoxoxo

ReplyDeleteHello Tina,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the movie suggestion as well as the book recomedation that you left on my blog. I love foreign films, especially French.

Your beautiful flowers make the kitchen look like a little green house! Beautiful!
I hope you have a wonderful week, Elizabeth
What a fun party. Great idea, have to remember that. Tina, the flowers are so beautiful. You definitely have a green thumb, I am not so blessed but do love them. Your fabrics for the bedroom are so soft and pretty, its going to be a beautiful room...and how lucky that we get to see how it is all coming together. I feel learning from my favorite blogs is better than any interior design class could ever be!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the movie trailer, looks like a winner and that outside TV monitor is crazy and amazing. But I bet big big bucks! You are right thought its one sure way to be sure your husband stays out of your hair, haha.
Hope you have a great rest of the day. Would love to know how you get your gardenias to bloom. I have two inside but no buds! Any tips?
You're a busy lady, Tina - love the dress and sometimes we just need to purchase something we love even if there's no special event. Trust me, you'll have the perfect place to wear it and be so glad you have it - love it!! Can't wait to try your recipe - yum and oh my, the fabrics. Exquisite, exquisite. It's the ideal solution for your chair - can't wait to see it all come together!!!!
ReplyDeleteTina you have such an incredible knack for putting together the most beautiful combinations of fabrics and trims. Every time I think I have settled on something in my house, I then see what you're doing and I'm pining for your stuff and want to start all over again! Just now I have picked a few fabrics for reupholstering some things here, but now I see your pretty, soft, feminine and classic fabrics etc I'm all confused again! Now to I want to go all French chateau meets classic English manor meets something I probably can't afford. Loving seeing your house come together like this. You truly have a gift!
ReplyDeleteYou are so funny~loved your love child comment about the leopard fabric! I love all your blooming plants and pots in the kitchen. I should do that too...well maybe if I was home...so perhaps I should do it at my store. love that dress~you are going to look incredibly pretty wearing it!!
ReplyDeleteTina, where to start;first of all I adore your new dress!! It is me! I am dreaming again!
ReplyDeleteLove the greens, florals, topiaries in the blue and white. I have put out some of mine as well.
The leopard fabric is fabulous, although I love the Scalamandre pillows so much I would never get rid of them.
Adore the coral lidded box, wonderful!

Tina,
ReplyDeletebeautiful flowers and topiaries in your kitchen and the fabric choices are gorgeous. happy Thursday and thanks for posting.
What a great post!!! I always love it when you preface what we are about to read that it will be a long one. That means another cup of coffee. I'm with you...my home looks really rather springy since all the pines and pinecones have been removed. Re movies: you MUST see: "Silver Linings Playbook"!!! Love Jennifer Lawrence.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Tina!
ReplyDeleteThat shot of your kitchen with the early morning sun or late afternoon light on your marble counter is so soothing. The addition of your plants and gorgeous blue and white vases is the perfect pick-me-up for this brutally cold morning!
WHAT A FUN PARTY THAT WAS with the red carpet! I used to put on soirées like this when we lived in Mass., but here, we have yet to venture out on this sort of event, but I hope to this summer!
Enjoy your day my friend. Anita
Lovely dress...let us know how you style it! Love the photo of the fruit. What a perfect breakfast that would make right now!
ReplyDeleteThe WINTER VEGETABLE TARTLETS photo and the recipe come from a beautiful blog Manger by Mimi, here http://mimithorisson.com/
ReplyDeleteSo much to love here! I love that dress, oh so pretty and feminine. Looks so light and comfortable too. Your flowers are just beautiful, they could easily win an award, that dough bowl creation is something.
ReplyDeleteThe new picks are wonderful, boxes are great decorative objects that can be used just about anywhere. Thanks for the movie recommendation, we are big fans of foreign flicks so will check it out, it looks like a wonderful movie.
Finally that outdoor TV is incredible. Practical, I don't think so but i guess for some with limitless pocketbooks, its another fun toy to add to their collection. Your bedroom choices are so elegant. A great post, as usual. Thank you for posting it and hope you have a great weekend.
Love the dress and must try the tartlets. I saw that Candice fabric in a showroom yesterday and was thinking I needed to find a home for it. Love your bedroom selections! Happy weekend.
ReplyDeleteThat Chloe top is so chic.
ReplyDeletealso, in the next post, your house is so lovely in the snow. I hardly ever comment but read every post.
Thank you for the snow. Snow (and your style of decor)are the only things I miss away in my ancient desert paradise;). Thank you for sharing your glamourous and lovely life with us.
I'm in love with the leopard print, and just scoured The Candice Olson/Kravet site and couldn't find it. Can you please share the name of it? My dining room is painted benjamin moore gossamer blue, and I'm looking to cover my dining room chairs. It would pick up that yummy blue gray color perfectly.
ReplyDeleteCan the tartlets be made without the wine?
ReplyDelete
