Things I am loving Thursday and house updates!

*My apologies, some of you have emailed me that you are unable to comment due to blogger issues, sorry,.not sure whats going on. I have experienced this myself with a few other sites, hopefully it will be soon worked out*

Good morning, can't believe its Thursday already! First how sad is it that Steve Jobs has passed away? I was shocked and saddened that this visionary the likes of which we have not seen died far too young. But boy did he leave an indelible mark on his legacy that will no doubt never be forgotten. I was impressed with the little I knew of him, how he thought and what his goals aside from his career ambitions were. A very charitable and giving human being, his gifts and brilliance have changed the world forever.
Well, good things are happening over here albeit feels like in slow motion at times, which its really not, just feels that way!! The details really do take the longest, are the most labor intensive and require the most concentrated decision making, don't you agree? I know in the end, however it will be worth it. The latest move in date, and this is one that both my husband and I agree on, (so think its really "legit") is sometime between Nov.1st and Nov.15th. He has a business trip to take mid October and I keep joking that he will return to find me all moved in, but seriously who am I kidding? That's no easy feat and will most definitely require him to be here too. So, my friends I start with house updates and then a few other goodies.......

Also I know everyone enjoys seeing the result from "which would you choose" and yesterdays post featured a selection of gorgeous bathrooms, so the top four were......and for those of who, who were curious as to what my choice is, my faves were actually a three way tie, between #7, 14 and 16. Though there clearly was not a bad one in the bunch!

                                                    1st place with 18 votes

2nd place with 15 votes

3rd place with 14 votes

4th place tied with 13 votes each

And then there were three coming in as a three way tie with 12 votes each and then it tapered off from there...thanks for being part of the fun! Always so interesting to see what people love!

HOUSE UPDATES. Buzz word this week is MARBLE!! As in marble countertops, yes those marble countertops! I am over the moon with how they came out. I know I know, way too many pictures but it was getting dark, the lighting wasn't great and I got a little carried away....just scroll fast! And I apologize about the very random order, wish I could say there is a creative reason behind it...but there's not!  The only thing we don't have yet is the island marble. This is in the works, its been challenging to find two big enough slabs, but the search is narrowing and there are two things that are strong possibilities. I am loving it so far!! The finishing on all the woodworking/moldings continues as does the painting. Sanding of wood floors upstairs nearly done and then staining, then finally carpeting will be put in the bedrooms. Limestone is coming Monday, was supposed to be here today, so its delayed a few days:( I am going to have some really fabulous pictures to show you of the loooooooooong awaited front door surround next week fingers crossed!  All update pictures are below.....

Mantle in master almost done being primed
Part of master bedroom shaping up

My bathroom taking shape

The middle panel will have mirror.....
Deciding between antiqued mirror or plain, am going to add rosettes.
Paint looks very yellow here it is NOT. This is the future full length mirror
They did a great job on the molding (looks very yellow for some reason)

Final cabinet color, left side no glaze, right side subtle pale gray glaze, am going to go with the glazed version to give it a little depth and pick up the marble veining..thoughts?

Closeup of the mantle/marble hearth in master

Trying out hardware for butlers....what do you think?

Simple but interesting

Sons bath countertop got installed....

Oops back to my bathroom

Finally the long awaired countertops in kitchen......Tah dah!!!!!!!!!

PEETS COFFEE. I speak of my love for Peets often, what can I say, I am a bona fide coffee addict, I admit it. OK, so I don't clothes shop anymore, I buy coffee...lol.  Hey, it could be worse. A lot worse. I have tried I believe nearly all of Starbucks "bold category" coffees and to me in my humble coffee barista wannabe opinion...they don't hold a candle to Peet's French roast. It is heavenly. When I had my candy sushi making session a few weeks ago I wowed all the moms with it and now they too are addicted. If you like coffee, be prepared to really love it once you try Peets.....and no I don't work for Peets, just love the stuff!

FIG AND OLIVE RESTAURANT IN NYC. Had relatives in from out of town and we were in the city, having a ball. Its been so long since I have gone out for the day like that and it was fun! I discovered a fabulous new restaurant and cannot recommend it highly enough, between the fun, elegant, upbeat and vibrant vibe to the fantastic, perfectly seasoned food served from an open kitchen, all in an incredible space with soaring ceilings, awesome service..this place rocked!! I cannot wait to go back! In case you are near NYC, or visiting its a must visit. Click here to visit their website.

A GREAT CHARGER. Don't you love the way a great charger adds so much to a table setting? Whether its family casual or guest formal....a charger adds a definite panache to any setting even when pairing with a super simple plate. I am particularly into scalloped chargers. Here are a few i think are great looking......

A FEW LAST MINUTE SURPRISES! Hot off the presses! They just finished (just about) installing the countertops in the pantry, and I am loving them! Also the inside the cabinet lighting in the kitchen, it was getting dark and my camera had run out of battery so pardon my Iphone camera quality but you get the idea!!

So thats the low down over here!! Plenty more to come. Thanks to everyone for following along and your kind and encouraging comments and emails. Means so much. Wishing everyone a very happy day!

  1. Congratulations on getting your counters in Tina! I know how excited you are about those and the wait is hard. I have to say you might have the biggest butler’s pantry I have ever seen and it’s beautiful. I love the back lighting in your china cabinets they really make a WOW factor. I love coffee, espresso, and drink it every morning my personal favorite is Lavazza since Starbucks wasn’t doing it for me, I’ve never heard of Pete’s I’ll have to look around for it. Congrats again on your counters they’re stunning!

  2. I'm not drinking coffee during this pregnancy, but I can't tell you how much I'm missing it! I love my coffee and I need to try this!!! I hope I can find it here in Canada.

The kitchen is looking amazing!!! I also love all the details of the crown moldings. Oh, That little window (beside the big one) in your bathroom is incredibly charming! Great choice!

    Have a great day, Tina!

  3. Where to begin? OK, so love the countertops, that marble makes my knees weak! Butlers increidble too. That interior lighting is really fantastic looking, good call Tina. Your bathroom should have been included in yesterdays post.

Thumbs up for hardware for your pantry, its beautiful. Love the lantern for the island, can so see it! Love that Juliska platter and agree about your observation on scallop anything.

Next time I visit NY hopefully around Christmas will try the restaurant. So sad about Steve Jobs, what a loss. Whew...did I miss anything? Lots to cover :-)

  4. You know Tina, there was a Peet's coffee place in Lexington Mass center...wonder if it is still there. Lots of local devotees to that brand around here! I love the glaze for the master bath cabs, and I was really oohing and ahhing over the Habershammy style moldings in there too. I would use the antique mirror style, it just seems fitting, and save the real mirror for the long tall looking glass. I love that you ask, so I happily answer if I have an opinion of what I would do IF it were my decision! The kitchen looks stunning with the marble tops, and I knew it would too!! Now if you had only had them delivered two weeks ago I could have picked that type of edge from Formica and called them my "enchanted" counters!!

  5. Tina - the marble is divine.
    Glazed.
    Still breathless.

  6. Oh my goodness...your molding makes me loose heart beats...it's SOOOOOOO gorgeous- the detail of it- so romantic and girly- I totally vote for the antique mirror- I put it in my kitchen and absolutely ADORE it. Now the glaze vs no glaze question- I actually prefer the clean white without the glaze but it's totally a personal preference thing and I think you're house/style leans more to the glaze one...both would be gorgeous! Love, love the hardware against the dark grey. Your house is totally a dream!!!

  7. Wow. I think I start every comment to your posts with wow, but I mean it! Wow! Love the marble in kitchen and the gray glaze. Then, the idea of the built in floor length mirror is making my head spin. All that gorgeous trim around it, the chair rail . . . yum, Tina!

  8. Oh, I am loving that marble! Love how it contours the counters. (Hey, nice alliteration and I didn't even try!) I totally agree with the glazed cupboards for your bathroom. I love the hardware for your pantry, they are perfect and I also love the lanterns.

As for Peet's, we don't have them here in Canada, but for my fellow Canucks, I'm a coffee snob too and I recommend Second Cup, their coffees are finely roasted and generally a cut above Starbucks. But I won't ever say no to a Starbucks, lol! Second Cup's coffees are from sustainable farms, a lot of them organic, and therefore, as my daughter calls them, "good karma coffees"! And next time I go to the US, I will be sure to give Peet's a try.

Seriously beautiful beyond words! The details are incredible, dreamy kitchen, marble, bathrooms, butlers, everything! Yes to glazing and yes to the lantern.

  14. So much to say, so little time :))))

OK, I will add Peets to my next shopping list. I am hosting a coffee for all of our neighborhood moms in October. 40 ladies! I will have to serve Peets!

I am changing my mind about your bathroom survery from yesterday! I choose YOUR bathroom! And I love the deep windowsill.

Master looks so great! I cannot wait to see it furnished! The detail around the full length mirror - to die for!

Your kitchen is a dream! Wow! I would give anything for a butler's pantry. I can see my collection of antique ironstone displayed allowing for easy access. I currently have to root around in my cabinets to find their perfect piece.

I love your updates! You'd better not stop blogging when your home is finished! xoxo

  16. You've come a long way Tina, you've made great decisions along the way. You should be so pleased with how your home is coming together. The countertops are gorgeous and all of the hardware is beautiful. Your kitchen is going to be breathtaking! Yes, I love chargers and the look they give to a places setting. You have on your list one of my favorites from NM.
I didn't vote yesterday, but my favorite bath won.......

  18. Love all the woodwork detail throughout! Spectacular! I really hope you are in and settled as best for Thanksgiving! I would guess that decorating your new home for the holidays has got to be burning in your lovely soul! It's going to be fabulous! I love coffee, and will see about getting my hands on Peet's. Love chargers, what a great selection. And, I'll try to visit the restaurant while in NY. And, last, but not least, I love seeing the outcome of the polls. Although I commented that I couldn't choose one, the 4th place tie with the crystal chandelier, was one that actually kept my interest.

  19. Well, you know I love you when I am traveling here (with DIAL UP) and it took 28 minutes to download/upload? all your pictures here...wait I lied- it was only 19 minutes-seemed longer.

The house is getting there. Love all your choices so far..and I do like the glazing-I think it gives it depth and blends beautifully.

And those lanterns for above the island? LOVE them! You are doing a great job pulling EVERYTHING together.

Well, as you know, I am a Starbucks girl through and through..but then, I have never HAD Peets- matter of fact, I never heard of it before coming here. Sigh...one more addiction to add to my list?

Off and running here in the UP- Hope you have a grand day! xo Diana

  20. Hi, Tina,
The counters and hardware in the kitchen look wonderful. I love the moulding for the mirrors in your bathroom. Your craftsmen are spectacular.

When you mentioned Fig and Olive, I thought you were talking about one of Todd English's restaurants (some are called Figs and some are called Olives). Your recommendation sounds great. I'll have to try this one when I am in NYC.

I am a Peet's French Roast fan as well, and a strong coffee addict. Now I know how you get so much done in a day.

I think your choice of lantern for over the island is perfect.

Also am a charger fan; I have seven sets (so far). The latest, and favorite, is a collection of vintage silver trays used as chargers. It has taken me some time to accumulate enough, and I am excited to use them.

    Have a wonderful day...Victoria

  21. Everything is beautiful...absolutely perfect. I would take your house any day!! Are you not afraid that the marble is too porous and will be high maintenance? I ask that because I am remodeling my kitchen and EVERYBODY tells me I would be crazy to go with marble....that granite is much more substantial. Can you address this?

    ReplyDelete
  22. P.S. I have just joined your blog and it's already my favorite!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. The marble is gorgeous and I love the subtle grey glaze on the cabinets that gently echos the veining. I think the lantern is divine and your molding choices are perfect. Love the idea of the antiqued mirror. I think, when your home is done, it will look as though it's been in existence, lovingly maintained, for centuries. Yes to the chargers (I love the first one). They add so much interest to a place setting.

Thanks for the tip on Peet's coffee. I'm definitely going to give it a try.

  24. Going on the record to say this is the most beautiful house ever. LOVE your kitchen, butlers, bathroom, bedroom, living room, staircase, porch, patios, outside facade,etc...you get the picture. I love it all.

Even have my husband following along! (He is in the business so takes a big interest) Marble is to die for! Girl, it was so worth the wait, aggravation and anything else you had to go through. Perfect is the only way to describe it.

Love the lantern, who makes it? Yes also on the hardware, and you must do the glazing, it picks up the gray vaining so well.

The scalloped plates are so pretty and I am going to try Peets for sure, am a Starbucks girl but always open to try something new!

    Have a super day.

  25. All that marble...oh my! Tina, it is gorgeous, the kitchen looked magnificent on its own, but then those last photos of the pantry really made me look twice. (And then a third time, ha-hah!)

Hang in there on the details, it has to be more-than-stressful right now, especially if you are contemplating a move during a time period that essentially becomes the holidaze.

    Sending you a smile,
    tp

  26. Tina I am almost speechless!!! The marble is beyond gorgeous. The last picts of the cabinet with the soft lighting is my fav. I love ambient lighting!! It has been quite an interesting journey in blogland, that is for sure!! xo Kathysue

  27. Fig and Olive is near where my daughter works...when you and I go there for lunch, can she come, too. My treat.

If you weren't so darling, your home would have me jealous. Ah...your glorious bathroom.

  28. Everything is just beyond beautiful. You're right there are so many choices in the details, and everything you're choosing is gorgeous! I love the little crissy cross window in your bathroom, and the full length mirror is going to be to die for!

  29. Tina, I am loving the edging you chose for all of the marble...I know that's a detail that I zeroed in on but I know you have put a lot of thought and energy into all of your choices so I thought it was worth mentioning. Definitely sad about Steve Jobs - such an early age for someone to die - especially someone who was one of a kind! We could all learn from him!

  30. Oh my gosh! You must have required an entire marble quarry to take care of all your countertops! And the hardware in the butler's pantry is perfection. Hard to believe you'll be ready to move in in a month! I'll bet you're beyond excited!

We're going to NYC later this month and we'll check out Fig and Olive!
    Take care, Barbara

You certainly have an amazing team of craftsmen...hope you're willing to share their names when your home is finished.

Thanks for recommending Fig and Olive. I'm trying my hardest to give up coffee but just might have to give Peets a try too.:)

  33. LOVE the countertops! I agree with the glazing on the cabinets - it adds such depth and character. I never noticed your pantry before - I could live in there! Small, cozy, fine touches... all it needs is a shelf full of Peet's French Roast coffee. I just bought Pumpkin Spice Coffee at Trader Joe's - haven't tried it yet, but it sounded so good I bought some for "Fall Fairy" gifts for neighbors. (If you were my neighbor I'd drop some off at your gate.)

  34. Your bathtub is incredible. Speechless! Everything is really perfect. Wow. Love every single square inch of it! You must be thrilled. and totally agree with glazing the cabinets, perfect choice!

  35. You must be dying over the marble. I would just pull up a chair and stare at it all day long. SO beautiful.
Love it in the kitchen next to the creamy cabinets as much as I love next to the very dark ones in the pantry.

Also your bathroom and all the woodworking is just really out of this world. It just gets better and better even when I don't think thats possible!! All the magazines are going to be beating down your door soon Tina.

Great job, and thank you so much for answering my email about the sources, you are the best!

  41. I don't really know where to begin commenting on this post because it is all so mind-blowing! Tiles are so beautiful and now with the matching countertops they really have come to life. I love all your choices of cabinet colours and how they work with the marble tops, especially the contrast of the pantry black and the kitchen cabinets. The lighting looks magical. I'd go antique mirror and glazed. You must be so excited to be nearing the end. Can't wait to see you decorate it.

I mean we have some incredible homes here in Atlanta but let me tell you, very very few people are building homes of this caliber so its a real treat to watch it come together and thank you for sharing it. 54. Your architect specked lights in your bathroom off-center, or your electrician flubbed.

Marble countertops are beautiful, but best of luck keeping them looking that way. As one of the most porous and delicate natural stones, look out for stains and nearly everything to eat the finish off, including anything acidic, hairspray, most cleaners, etc.

    Overall, impressive home though.
