Dining room...final spackling is done!
Radiant heat in kitchen finished....
Ditto for breakfast room
The table with the molding samples
The dome over the stairhall
A tiny sampling of the floors...a "dry run" before the actual install
Finally........if a floor could tell a story....
And at last they begin......
Hubbys bathrooms floor......
AN ACT OF KINDNESS. This story is simply amazing, there is a movie called "A small act" which is about as heartwarming as you can get. An incredible story about the domino effect of giving and receiving. Starts with Hilde Back, escaped from Nazi Germany, so grateful she wants to give back and does so by giving $15 a month by randomly selecting an African child to help. Turns out it is Chris Mburu, a rural Kenyan student who miraculously turns his tiny opportunity into success beyond anyones imagination. He becomes a standout star student, eventually moves to the United States, attends Harvard Law School and chooses to honor his donor by establishing the Hilde Back education Fund which sponsors more Kenyan children to do just what she did many years ago. He tracks her down and brings her back to Kenya to see what her generous and then small act of kindness has inspired. Such an incredibly heartwarming story! Click here to read all about it and to see how you can help get in on your own small act. Below is a picture of Hilde and Chris reunited.....such a wonderful story!
LIMESTONE HOODS. I love the authentic look a limestone hood gives a kitchen. Granted, its not appropriate for all kitchens but for mine, I know its just right. I can't wait to receive it! The one I am getting, shape wise looks very similar to this one below.
WALLPAPER. You know I have literal daily wallpaper crushes. I have chosen and ordered paper for two bathrooms so far because I had to strike while the iron was hot, however there are still many more areas to consider papering so my quest for gorgeous paper continues!
I love Gailbraith and Paul papers..used them in my old bathroom. Something about these below that I really like, they feel so fresh and I love the soft muted colors..was thinking maybe for my laundry room, and am thinking to go wtih pale painted gray cabinetry in there....any thoughts?
Possible cabinet color above (thoughts?) in laundry room...contenders for paper below:
FUN OUTDOOR PLATES. Boatman Geller, love everything they make. And love these adorable melanine plates...shatterproof, perfect to have on hand for fun effortless ourdoor entertaining! I love the first ones and am ordering them, they will look great on top of a wicker placemat with white flatware and a chunky glass! Love the other patterns too...wouldn't they make great gifts? I am thinking of ordering these for a housewarming gift for a cousin moving to AZ. If you want to visit Boatman Geller to check out their extensive line of goodies..click here.
A GREAT DESIGN BOOK. By Chritiane de Nicolay-Mazery and Jean-Bernard Naudin. I could open a small library with my book collection, I kid you not. But there are a handful of design books I go back to again and again....they just never get old. One of them, if you love all things French and if you love "being taken away" is this one,it is a gem of a book and I promise you, you will not only love it but you will thank me for recommending it.They take you into a special and privileged world. It is chock full of dreamy and breathtaking pictures, all taken at various chateaus in the countryside in France from real life dinners, weddings, events and day to day life. We see these magnificent homes in the most intimate way possible through all four seasons and the photography truly takes your breath away...I promise you will not be disappointed...there is a reason my book looks likes its as old as the chateaus featured in them! It is a true slice of heaven.
UNIQUE GIFTS. I love when I come up a unique idea to buy for someone special in my life. My niece has a birthday coming up, so for her I always send a gift card (as show me a teenage girl who doesn't love an excuse to hit the mall) but this year as she spends her last few weeks trying to decide which college acceptance she will say yes to, once she does I am going to have a dozen custom cookies made up in that colleges' logo made up. I have ordered from Flourpotcookies before and let me tell you, they make the cutest cookies! For my grandmother who is a serious bridge player from the south, they whipped up a dozen cookies all with the theme of bridge and made two mint julep cookies! Here is a sampling of their truly incredible almost too cute to eat works of art! Click here to visit them. And, yes these are all really cookies!
So everyone...that about sums up what I am loving today. Would love to know whats exciting you today....and do hope you have an amazing day!
I adore the kitchen floors, can't wait for your pictures of the final product! And your husband's bathroom is to die for!

You are loving some pretty amazing things! How exciting to see things starting to come together in your home! Loving the flooring choices :). And yes to the color for your laundry room. I think a gray and yellow in there would look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteYou know, this comment would have been posted 15 minutes ago, but I had to go gaze upon the goodness at Flourpot Cookies. Droolage to the nth degree, as well as some very elegant looking treats, what a find, thank you for the tip!
ReplyDeleteThe floors are amazing. That radiant heat is going to be *so* fabulous come next winter. And your husband's bathroom is looking magnificent, I'm with you on "worth every sleepless night," very much so. It is simply beautiful.
We are enormous fans of the BG plates, both personally (we constantly use ours outdoors and give them as gifts) and professionally, they are huge sellers for us, and we have *never* had a complaint or unhappy customer; they are also doing wonderful platters as well.
I am always enthralled with the wallpaper yo share, being so fond of it myself, and the styles you select are lovely, all of them. Not to mention the marble, it has become a borderline online addiction!
Thank you for making the morning prettier! Have an outstanding weekend!

All of your floors are drop dead gorgeous. Really just over the top. Also love your hardware choices. I'm a hardware junky. those little details make such a difference. Yes, your flooring is sooo worth it. Beautiful. And I love the wallpapers, too, especially the ones with the birds for the laundry. And the Boatman Geller plates are so great for summer--you know I love the blue and white ones!
ReplyDeleteI am a new subscriber to your AWESOME blog and am loving it, especially since we are in the process of designing our dream lake house!
ReplyDeleteHowever, my comment is about your blurb on A Small Act. I watched the trailer and signed up to host a screening for my nonprofit organization. No one will believe I found out about the movie through a decorating blog (none of the philanthropy blogs I subscribe to have mentioned it)! Thanks so much for ALL the info you share!
Dear Tina, I have to say that I`m starting to love these posts! This house is so amazing...I think I can understand how you feel about all this. You must be so excited! I`m so glad I can follow along and see how it all turns into a dream home. Hope you have the most lovely Easter!!!

Wow! So much beauty to see in this post! I like seeing the progress you are making in your home. The floor in hubby's bathroom is my favorite. I just adore it. And gosh, how I would love to throw my slippers away and have my tootsies warmed with radiant heat coming from my kitchen floors!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love your house - even the drywall and studs are beautiful. The end product will be simply....simply unbelieveable! By the way, I am ordering everyone of those cookies!!!!! Thanks for your wonderful post!
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine a more beautiful home than the one you are creating. I'm sure all your hard work will be worth it. Gorgeous! Love the monogram plates, too.
ReplyDeleteJust dying over this post! I think I say it every week...but your house is just gorgeous! Can't wait to see the finished floors, as it seemed like such an ordeal, so I am sure they are more than worth it! Also, I go weak in the knees for a marble slab-it's my favorite!
ReplyDeleteTina, All the choices you have made are beautiful. The floor tiles in the kitchen and your husbands bath are amazing. One of my favorites is the limestone hood. What a gorgeous home you will be moving into shortly.
ReplyDeletexo,
Sherry
What's exciting me today??? This post for starters!! I'm just loving all of your love's and very excited to see so much of your already beautiful home! The tile is gorgeous, can't wait to see the finished product. We spent two years building our home and I have to say, those sleepless nights, arguments, and also, the extra caffiene and alcohol, did eventually pay off, so hang in there, you're doing amazing...and no, it never ends. Just when you think it's over, there's another decision...but that's okay because all will be perfect...or at least 99.9% perfect! We ended up with Calacatta marble in the kitchen and I love it, etches and all (they add character anyway). And I love the brass hardware options...I toyed with that idea but ended up going with the polished nickle...I still love the brass though, tough one!
ReplyDeleteBest with all the rest and thanks for such a great post!!
xo J~
Wow! 4 to 5 posts in one...looks like it was a great Thursday!
ReplyDeleteToo much fabulousness to focus on in this post, so I'll just say that those floors are to die for!!!!! Love the geometric pattern in your husband's bathroom! What is the material of the large rectangular brown/grey tile?
ReplyDeleteYESSSSSSSSS, indeed "yep...worth it all!"
ReplyDeleteHubby's bath floor IMO should STOP any disagreements WOW, everything is a WOW! However if Hubby's floor doesnt work heetee Bet, a big ole glass of wine & some dancing just might, wink!
Wait........ as I curtsy, take my hat off, hug & shake the hands of Hilde Back & Chris Mburu.
ReplyDeletePURE PERFECTION, love & truly "what goes around comes around". Thank you & a big AMEN:)
I too am dying over the floors! You know I love a good bathroom floor. And the range hood... FABULOUS! Every choice you have made is spot on.
ReplyDeleteAgain, you are making me ecstatic! I can almost see how everything is fabulously coming together. Enjoy the beautiful day, Kellie xx
ReplyDeleteLove all the beautiful flooring - they are looking fabulous. And not to confuse you, but have you seen Meg Braff's new wallpapers? Another option I think you might love!
ReplyDeleteYour husband's bathroom floors are quite amazing! Can't wait to see yours!
ReplyDeleteYour house is going to be beyond gorgeous! You are making the most scrumptious choices. I love seeing every little bit of it.
ReplyDeleteTina,
ReplyDeleteSigh...it appears you'll be walking on holy new home flooring...how sacred is that!
I was laughing when I read your physical symptoms that appear when Marble is present... "Don't know what it is but show me a slab of gorgeous white veiney marble and I just about lose my mind". Ditto!
I enjoy seeing all the pieces of your personal puzzles come together and your home is going to be a Sweet Treat Home Sweet Home sooner than you realize. Don't be concerned about the sleep loss you can make up for it when you get to sleep in your new bedroom.
Train your sub conscience mind by asking yourself a "selection question" before you go to sleep, write it down and place question on your night table, the perfect answer will reveal itself within a day or two. Plus it's fun!
There are times in our lives when our focus is so intense we can hear our passion...no words can express what it means to us.
Love all the choices above for flooring and your kitchen will be a magical space of culinary delights and when you look back on today you always knew you'd get it just right and you have. How Devine!
Bette
Everything looks great, especially the cookies! :)
ReplyDeleteI always look forward to your Thursday house updates! It is so gratifying to see the items that were selected long ago start to make their way into the house. New Ravenna tiles, Galbraith & Paul, limestone, marble - some of my favorite things!
ReplyDeleteA big WOW to everything, particularly the heartwarming Hilde Back story. She could have been bitter against humanity after living through such an ordeal, but she instead turned it into something so positive as helping other fellow human beings.
ReplyDeleteWho is the flatware from? It's gorgeous, just the right blend of sophisticated and casual.
I am dying over those bathroom floors. They are *gorgeous*!!!! What an amazing home. The magazine should already be lining up!
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter!!
Beyond amazed by your fabulous house - I think I just saw the breakfast room of my dreams! Really how can you ever have a bad day?
ReplyDeleteps: checking the small act website right now, that is a lovely and inspiring message, thank you for sharing that!
