Isn't it romantic?

Happy Tuesday.......When you think of a romantic room, what comes to mind? I think of soft flowing sheer fabrics, maybe some silks, perhaps even a touch of silvery shimmery fabrics, mirrors, delicate objects, maybe some crystal with a feminine touch. A  fireplace sure won't hurt things. A view of the water, you won't hear me complain. When I think of a romantic room, I see an elegant and understated, soft and serene space. Flowers of course always add romance as can the addition of music to add to the ambiance. Lighting plays an integral part in the way a room affects us and candles certainly do a great deal to add to the feeling of romance. We all have a different interpretation of what "romantic" means to us but entering a romantic room certainly feels wonderful and is good for the soul. Today I look at romantic rooms at least through  my eyes and here is what I see....would love to know what you think and what you think makes up a romantic room?

Miles Redd designed this very sweet and charming romantic bedroom
Sherill Canet created a heck of a romantic boudoir in this gorgeous room

I saved the best for last (to me that is) this to me is the ultimate in romance, fresh air, al fresco dining, casual but elegant, all amongst the soft glow of an abundance of candlelight. Bring on the wine, fine food, great friends, and animated conversation, romance is in the air..... Cheers!

So do you have a favorite? What does a romantic room mean to you? How would you decorate a room meant to feel romantic? I think it means different things to each of us..that's the beauty of design and decor, the endless interpretations. I love seeing one concept through so many different eyes..its fascinating to see how we take one idea and each conceptualize it so differently. For me, romance is that last picture or a tall canopy bed draped with an abundance of soft flowy ivory fabric...preferably with a warm tropical breeze blowing through the room.. (OK might as well throw in the Atlantic ocean beckoning in the background and while you are at it, add in the mega yacht in the distance too...lol)
Enjoy your day

  1. Agreed...those spaces are so romantic.
When I think of romance I think of candlelight, flowers and soft fabrics. Some the spaces above don't have them but they sure give the romantic vibe.

  2. We share the same ideas for what a romantic room should look like. I hate a room that is dripping with crystal and silk and decadence, these are all elegant spaces and romantic but not overly done. I could see celebrating a special occasion in each one of these wonderful spaces...those bathrooms are so pretty and that last outdoor space..wow! I agree, its incredible. Have a beautiful day!

  3. The first picture of the bedroom is inspiring all kinds of ideas for a seating area across from the bed in our bedroom. Hummmmm?

  7. I'll be totally honest here when decorating I don't think of romance. To me romance is more about the little things my husband does, the gestures. But if I had to pick a room it would be the bathroom by Barry Dixon, it's gorgeous!

  14. Oh my goodness! Soon I am going to have to start a file on my computer just for pics from your blog - so much inspiration!! I loved that first courtyard and the last pic for their intimacy. But the kitchen with the painted ceiling and that bath with the herringbone floors and wall of windows? Oh....

  15. This is an impressive gallery you have pulled together, I have saved the link..:-) I am immediately drawn to the John Jacob interiors. Romance for me has always been about my love of family. I love that my kids visit us at 3am and want to snuggle. Reading on the sofa under blankets, a gorgeous dinner table. So sweet..

  16. Romantic is seldom a "look" I go for when designing a space but I think I would gasp if I walked into anyone of these rooms. The Barry Dixon bathroom is over the top romantic and the first Haslam garden is a dream garden room.

  17. Wow... I must say the dining areas were all so beautiful, especially the last one. I truly love the bath with the sheers around it. It is soft, elegant, and so romantic. I would love that right in the center of my house.

  19. I like the Haslam designs as well as those by Redd. They are classic.

The bedrooms I have always loved most are designed by Mario Buatta. He does beautiful well, and I think a bedroom should be beautiful as well as comfortable. I always feel as if I could live forever in one of his rooms.

  20. *** Yes, well, I uh.... wellll, simply stated, it's ALLLL lovely!! (You always seem to find the beauty AND "new" things for us to see for the first time!!! That's one of the reasons I love COMING here!)...

And that LASSSST outdoor-dining pic??? Living in the hills of the Tucson desert, t*h*i*s particularly APPEALS to BOTH my HUSBAND and ME... (Even "le DAWG" (grins!) loves it out on our patio/pool area, especially at night, just lazing on "her" lounge!)... And, we soooo blessed with the magnificent city lights below.... Ahhhh, He is SOOOO GOOD, isn't He???

    Warmly,

  22. All of these images are so luxurious and elegant! Where do you find all of your gorgeous images?! I love the last picture too--it makes me feel like I'm in Italy!

  23. Tina...you've outdone yourself this time!!! Love the Barry Dixon bathroom. The mantel is oh so fabulous. Adore the John Jacob bedroom with four poster bed and lots of fabric. Looks so cozy and romantic.

  24. What's romantic to me? A chandelier! You have a post full of amazing and beautiful chandeliers. Thank-you for this piece of heaven. What a delight to look at.

  25. Wow, such a broad selection, many of them representing the same reaction or sensation you mention. The copper tub from Decasare Interiors is so warm and inviting, I absolutely love it. And the "sweet, romantic" look in the third (I think) photo is also very appealing. For us the idea of coziness is important, too imposing or austere doesn't have a sense of romance.

Remarkable photos again, you certainly had me ooooohing and ahhhhhhhhing!

  29. As usual, you leave me speechless! Love all your picks. My idea of a romantic room is one with lush, soft linens and fabrics. Thick, soft blankets, fluffy pillows...

  30. That outdoor dining is just what I need to have for me and my wife to be together alone and have our romantic meals.

  31. Hi!
Wow! Those rooms make me want to start over in my home. But then again that's nothing new for me. lol Inspiration like this is my downfall.
Those kitchens are amazing. I love!! the first room. It looks like you could just live in there and never leave.

  33. I love all of the poster beds and the lush linens....gorgeous! The bathrooms are amazing as well....I love a nice big tub to relax in! Beautiful pictures....you always inspire!

  34. I love the photos and the design inspiration. But I am seeing a lack of inspirational art on most of the room photos :) I do believe that a simple artwork could do wonders on a room.

  35. Oh yes...the last one. Dining al fresco is so wonderful. Here in Texas, as you know, it gets hot so we must have everything undercover with fans, etc. This image is absolutely beautiful with all the vining and lushness + candles everywhere.xx's

  36. Again, I could be cut and pasted into any of these scenes but candle light and a fluffy bed that one could get lost in even with two. The more it looks like a puffy french pastry, the more delicious. ;)

  37. These rooms are definitely romantic! I love the room with all the floral pillows. I used to have all Ralph Lauren bedding and it looked beautiful!
