Mirrors mirrors everywhere...let me count the ways

Mirror mirror on the wall....yet there's so many other ways to use them all! Putting our own vanity aside, there are many other reasons to love mirror. What room isn't enhanced without a mirror or two? Besides their ability to make a room feel larger, and brighter the reflectory quality of a mirror gives you a lot of bang for the buck. I have lots of them all over my house and in fact, as I am counting the mirrors, realize I have them nearly in every room minus the kitchen and closets.

I wanted to show examples of how else a mirror can be used besides just the typical hanging of one..make no mistake, I love a hung mirror just as much as you do,  but there are other clever and creative ways to use mirror that might spark an idea. I know I have gotten a few ideas myself from these images.... Mirrors have been around since the 1st century AD in the form of a hand mirror and full body mirrors were introduced much later in Europe. Mirrors are indeed a mainstay of interior design and unilke other components in design and decor, they do fall not prey to trends. They look great just about anywhere and in any style room. So today lets look at mirrors, and how they are used....let me know if you have a favorite!

Love the mirror used behind the mirror.....so much more interesting than sheetrock!

  2. Love this post! Every picture is beautiful and very helpful! We are currently in the process of re-doing the shop and using mirrors is one of the ways we want to "enliven" it! Along with our antique mirrors for sale I think it would look great to have atleast one mirrored wall! Thanks again!

  4. Good morning, Tina!

Are you enjoying your 1st day of Spring??? It's cold here today but it's sunny... Spring is here and better days will come.

Funny that you're posting about mirrors today. Yesterday I went to a flea market (I never really go, but...) and I'm redecorating my mudroom. I want it to feel like a cottage, shabby chic, fun and colorful. So, I went there to find a fun mirror. Found a great one and also a very beautiful blue chair, with lots of character. I came back home so happy for finding these things and I spent only $12 dollars for both!!! Yes! What a score!
:-) I think I just because a fan of flea markets now!!! LOL

  6. I love the dressing room with the fortuny shades everywhere - that would be my dream dressing room - at least if my husband didn't get a vote! I also love the idea of a mirrored wall, especially in a dining room. Great post as always!

  7. Great post and photos! I am doing a house right now, where the closets had to be built along the end wall of the bedroom. We used antique french doors on all the closets with the glass replaced with double mirrors, both on the inside and out, so that when the closet doors are opened, the mirrors show on the inside of the doors, also. It brings a lot of reflected light into the room!

  8. I had nary a clue as to how long mirrors were around, thank you for the background! That door on the pantry in the white kitchen is a fave to be sure. I generally like mirrors almost anywhere (in moderation) for their capacity to lift light and amplify a look.

Great post, I hope you enjoy a stellar start to the week!

  9. Look at the ceiling light fixture in Kahn's room! TDF!! I love the mirror on mirror look especially in the first pic. I've been studying feng shui for years so having a sectioned mirror would be a no-no but I do love them . Have a wonderful week. :)

  11. Tina,

Haven't seen a mirror I haven't liked or that I couldn't work with. They open greater possibilities in any space. Love all the photo's reflecting the perfection of light. It's glamours very inexpesive to add in it's simplest form. Besides mirrors being a home decor essential, they are included in our cosmetic compacts, our cars, and public places. We're use to them because they've always been around us in large, small, public and private places. Happy Spring!

  14. That mirrored dressing room/closet with all the hanging Fortuny lights LOVE IT!!! All the images are gorgeous but the one that gets me is an antique mirror. I love the fading of the silver on the glass, think of the history this mirror has seen, the secrets that it holds. Happy first full day of spring, we’re getting 3-5" of SNOW!

  17. The images you have chosen are gorgeous - I especially love Amy & Todd Hase's living room with the beveled mirror and the large mirror framed in white wood. The power of a placing a mirror in a room is amazing. I think what I love about it most is that the room instantly grows - more square footage so to speak without paying hardly a dime. :)

  23. I have a thing for mirrors, especially the old ones. I have a mirror that is more glass than silver, it is so old. It is among my favorites. I try to imagine what it has seen, whose image was reflected in the last 200 years or so...
