The crowning touch in the kitchen....range hoods!

I start this day with a prayer for Japan and the heroic people battling what is the unimaginable. I pray for the healing and restoration of not only the country but for what makes it great, Japan's remarkable people. If you want to know how you can help....I found this short, to the point list of ways...click here for the link (It is Time's newsfeed) There is no gesture too small in this crisis.......we all have to do our part.

Today is all about the crowning touch on today's range...the infamous range hood! Boy, have they gotten popular. Besides the fact that its main function is to absorb odors, smoke, combustion products and airborne grease through evacuation and filtration of air...it has a much more aesthetic function.....to beautify a kitchen! There is stone, wood, brick, limestone, metal and just about anything else you can imagine. It can add a lot of grandeur, height, drama and texture to a kitchen....and certainly is a great "anchor" or focal point as illustrated below. I have had a bunch of these in my inspiration album for some time, though some are newer too. What do you think? Do you like range hoods? Would you use one or do you have one now? Have a favorite? Would love to know....

  1. Thanks for sharing these lovely kitchens with range hoods...

I'm with you regarding what happened in Japan,
it is just so sad, prayers are definitely needed ♥

  2. Seeing all of these makes me want to redo my kitchen over and over. When I redid my kitchen, I wanted a "chef's kitchen" and one that looked like real cooking took place. So, mine is a stainless steel version - but not an exact match of my range. It suits my home and my space.

But, oh, some of these above are so gorgeous!!

  9. Beautiful post as usual. I am in love with the limestone hoods. If I were redoing my kitchen that is what I would go for, we have a brick and wood hood now which is really pretty but suddenly looks a little dated to me. Oh well....got lots of great ideas here for my "next kitchen"

  10. Tina,

What's your secret? I mean, how do you do it? I'm never disappointed with your posts! You have ton of pictures and all of them are simply amazing! How long do you take to prepare it? :-) I truly appreciate your posts and the time you take to prepare them.

I can't choose one.... I love too many of them!!! But somehow the one above the Le cornue" range is making me dream... I'm not sure if it's because of the "Le cornue" though! :-)

    Have a great day!

  12. So many beautiful ones here....it's hard to decide which I like best. Love the one with the marble tile. Someday....maybe I'll be able to design one for my kitchen. Actually....my kitchen kind of has a hood within a hood...but not in a good way. I would love to rip out the soffit over my stove and put in a proper hood.

  13. I love our new range hood, stainless with a high-end restaurant feel and vents. We couldn’t go with anything any bigger then 36” since our kitchen is smallish but we wanted a more modern/gourmet feel. Love these images, a fabulous and important part of our kitchens.

  14. Tina,

Love the new look of your blog head it redefines The Enchanted Home.

My thoughts, prayers, and words of faith and hope will continue for a long time.

A range hood is a mighty, useful, beauitiful piece in all kitchens. It starts to show personality as you see image after image of the variety in styles available. I like how selections were made to match the feel of the kitchen. They have come a long way and I have many favorites among these shown.

  18. Love your posts for inspiration. Ours is like the stainless utilitarian one you posted. We've got a Viking Range with the stainless blacksplash and hood with a warming shelf....I want to replace it in our remodel....I prefer the hood to blend in with the cabinetry....or maybe it is the stainless backsplash that bugs me.

  19. These all put my Viking range hood to shame! So many favorites here. xo

  20. I love the new photos in your header Tina! Beautiful! I do love a grand hood and it really does makes the focal point of the kitchen. What color cabinetry did you order?

  22. I think you need to start adding numbers to your photos so that it is easier to identify our favorites!! So many beautiful ones - don't think I could choose just one. We had our hood made to match our LaCanche range - so therefore black and stainless which I loved. And love the photos in the header - a great addition!!

  24. I like to make the range hood architectural, which is what a lot of these are. For our own, 1923, Greek Revival, the kitchen is classic blue and white. Lapis blue Venetian plaster walls, white cabinets, a grayed, ever so slightly violet ceiling, and tons of Blue Willow transferware. We had the hood built, held up by antique corbels from an old house in New Orleans, and the hood is clad in a mosaic of broken Blue Willow dishes. I collected cracked and chipped plates for years to get enough!

  28. If you like to have the electric model of gas range, consider the energy that you will consume in a month. In the energy efficiency scale, A is the most efficient and G is the least.

  33. There’s nothing like the smell of a great meal to fill your kitchen with delicious aromas. But cooking also produces grease, moisture, heat and smoke that can take a toll on your cabinets and walls over time.

  34. The time gap for refueling the stove decides the efficiency. Suppose a stove takes 30 minutes for refueling and another takes 45 minutes then the latter has a better efficiency than the former. But efficiency ratings are not reliable as each stove is tested under different conditions and different refueling period.

  35. Appliance feature can either be attached to your cabinets, under your microwave, be mounted as a wall fixture, appear alone on your kitchen’s island or even fit an outside kitchen setup. They can be simple or elegant, stainless steel or plastic, standard or custom, or of a modern or antique design.
