Stranded and Which would you choose?

Hello....I have so missed being here! BUT we are "stranded" in California (I know I know sounds like an oxymoron)....the weather in the northeast has been absolutely horrible, it has virtually been paralyzed by snow, ice and extreme temps. Our flight was canceled and we were told that they could not get us home until Thursday! I love Cali but had never planned to have that long of a vacation! When you know you are heading home, you are ready to head home. I am sure I will be wishing we were "stuck" here even longer once I get home when it's supposed to be a whopping 4 degrees!
I was lucky enough to find a flight leaving Mon night out of an airport 3 hours away so because of this unforeseen extension of my trip, my Christmas magic contest originally scheduled to start today will start on Tues (fingers crossed and barring any more weather events)! I had this  post in my draft box, it was slated to post before Christmas but never quite made it...so disregard the "pre Chrismas" ramblings............

Hi there! I am still around, just knee deep in finishing up my decorating, gift wrapping (and still some buying) and just the normal expected chaos that ensues this time of year. The one thing I am happy to say that I did a little earlier than usual... my decorating is nearly done as is my gift buying. The one thing I am REALLY behind in is getting my Christmas cards out, they haven't even arrived! Not happy with Minted, think it might be a first and last time experience.

Now I know for those of who who are calling it a wrap in November, this is not so impressive but for me who often is still thinking of gifts on just hours before Christmas...this is a big deal! On top of all that we have going on...we also have to think about what we like to wear, right? Gotta look good in the process!

Anywho, we were invited to a Christmas party this past weekend and I went to look for a really pretty boucle coat I bought many many years ago that has a metallic thread running through it so it feels really festive but I realized it's a size 4 and I barely got past the arm...oh oh! So I am now in the market for a new coat. Something to wear out at night but that can be used daytime too. Got me thinking about coats, think I think I need to gift myself one for Christmas!

So assuming the jacket fairy paid you a visit.....Which coat/jacket  most says "you"? I cannot wait to see who comes out on top! Wishing you a wonderful day and good luck getting through this last week of prep! Hang in there and don't forget to take little breaks to do something nice for yourself:) maybe some online shopping at netaporter.

Hope your 2014 is off to a fabulous start....with luck I will be back on Tuesday, ready to "get back to work"! Until then.....

  1. Me first... love 1, 5. 6 and 8. 1 feels so "Audrey-ish" I like classic clean shapes and neutral colors but think the colorful ones are really fun too. But if forced to choose one for an extra coat think I may go with 6, its fun but classic and something different. Your turn...

  2. I would choose 1 & 2. I think next Fall we'll be seeing the cape make a come back!

  3. Good Morning Tina! Number 1 is my favorite however I also need a trench style (#5) and the warmth of something longer .. #10

Sorry to hear about the delay in getting home. When you are ready to return it's not so fun being away;) Sounds like you'll need to bottle up some of the CA sunshine!

    Safe travels back home;)

  4. Tina, wow what an ordeal! Hope you get home on Monday. My sister was been stuck in St. Thomas not able to get back to Chicago and they finally got a flight on Wed. but it meant 5 extra days on their trip and they also are ready to go home. The weather has been so extreme!
Love all these coats, I really like, 1, 3 7 and 9. But for evening might want to do something fun colorful and unexpected like 3, so 3 gets my vote. Wishing you a safe trip home.

  5. 9/12...also like 1...would like 7/8 in different colors...

  6. 2, 5 and 9 would all be perfect for me :) If I could only choose one, I think 9 is the most practical since it covers my derrière and I love the fur (hoping it's real)

  7. Easy choice, number 1. I'd wear that one with jeans during the day or with cocktail dress at night. Elegant..

  8. Dear Tina, last year I discovered The enchanted home and home bunch. I love both.
I visit your blog daily. Have very touched by your thoughts on new years Eve. I read everything several times and I feel encouraged. As many wise and good thoughts.
    Of all the beautiful coats , I prefer the Nos.1 & 8.
Wish you a safe return and a Happy healthy New Year.

  13. TINA! Oh dear one, I feel for you! When we were out in California, the cold snap had not started yet, and we were able to fly back into Minneapolis with no delays. BUT with the deadly weather that is coming in, STAY PUT! I will say a prayer for you right now!

I think I mentioned to you yesterday that our back-to-school plans for tomorrow have been cancelled state wide, thank you Governor Dayton! The forecast calls for lows such as -50 in some parts of Minnesota, with the Twin Cities where we live plummeting to at least -20.

I wish you safety as you prepare to leave the sunny state, but there is no place like home.

As for these luscious choices? Give me #10!

Safety and love to you, Anita

  19. Where are you in California?? best of luck making it home, but enjoy while you have the warmth and sunshine. We just got in from Lana'i, love being home, but the cold reality is sinking in :}…. I would choose 11, love that coat morning to eve.

  20. I love #1 and I wish I had her legs too. Enjoy every second in Cal. You're not missing much here. Safe travels.

  21. Oh no, like you, when it's time to come home, I'm ready, but try to enjoy a few more days of warmth and sunshine...Loving #2!!

  22. I LOVE #10..Black, belted, and faux fur collar and lined, double breasted, Perfect!!

  23. Hi Tina...I can't believe you are stuck in California! I guess things could be worse, right? I hope you are having a wonderful time and taking advantage of the extra days to relax and soak up the sunshine before you come home to the frozen tundra! My pick for a coat is definitely #1...I love it!

  24. I love coat 2, but have been wearing variations of coat 8 for the past 12 years in various colors. Was fortunate late last year when my beautiful cousin Mandy arrived with the *perfect* vintage black trench coat for me - I had been hunting one for almost a year and she found one tucked away in the back of a shop rack which fits like I've had it tailored. Love those moments!

Even though we should be in the height of summer here in Australia we've had some very unseasonal weather this week and it's only 19 (66F) here in Melbourne today. Not quite coat weather, but still very cool for this time of year when it would normally be in the 30's (90Fs).

    Safe travels!

  25. Coat #2...universal, cute, stylish.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I would choose coat numbers 5 & 8.
While I like no.1, I think it is way too short and I have always heard that double-breasted coats make you look big. So for that reason, no.1 is out. I think that numbers 5 & 8 are going to always be in style and are therefore classics (as is no. 12)! I hope you make it home safe and sound and you have a wonderful 2014!

Ended up taking the train to Boston and were able to fly out on Saturday night in order to get our daughter back for her class which is starting today! 38. Happy 2014, Tina! Looks like yours is off to a delayed start... We came home from rainy Mexico yesterday to rainy NYC and we wish our flight had been cancelled, too. We're definitely bundling up with this cold front coming and while it doesn't look warm enough, would choose #2 - we think the cape with be THE coat in 2014. Off to Atlanta tomorrow for the gift show so fingers crossed we don't get stranded here. Have a safe trip home!

  39. Bless your heart!! I have never seen a travel season as bad as this one. We made our first flight, only to have our connection cancelled in Mexico City and the funny thing is…it turned out to be one of mine and my kids favorite days of our trip. (It didn't hurt that Amex Plat found us a room at the Four Seasons and I squeezed in a massage!) A quote I saw this week might apply to your situation. Attitude is the difference between an ordeal and an adventure. Good luck getting home. I know how hard it is being stuck and just wanting to be in your own bed.

    xoxo Elizabeth
ps: And for coats….9, 10, 11 and 12 are all fab!!!!

  40. Tina we too had a traffic ordeal and it took us 3 days to get home from st. Kitts- just got back last night....finally!

  41. Nightmare airlines even today- tried taking my daughter to LaGuardia this morning for her flight back to college in Chicago-it was cancelled, and a lot of problems at JFK, so we drove to Newark. Long Island traffic was a mess this morning. Hope you get home safely! Regarding these gorgeous, my vote is for #1, very Audrey Hepurn.

  44. I sure hope that you and your family have made it back safely. These dog days of... Winter... are sure getting old!

I have survived the Polar Vortex through baking. "It's Complicated" film was on t.v. several times over the holidays, so I
copied the lavender ice cream idea, and I also made lavender cup cakes. They were awesome! Lavender flowers, dried
    - from Whole Foods, spice dept. Who Knew! ....Respectively, I have had to go to more Zumba classes for the calories!

#2 and #9, my votes. Thanks.
