Memorial Day. It is of course alot of fun to get caught up in all the enjoyable things we think about on this holiday, BBQ's, picnics, big sales, get togethers,etc...but lets not forget the real meaning and who we have to thank for being allowed to have those very freedoms to do all of those wonderful things!
Our brave men and women in uniform, sometimes unsung heroes,.. to me, there is simply no more noble job than the one these brave Americans do. They put their own lives on a daily basis on the line for us to enjoy our liberties and freedoms......every day we should salute the heroic job that they do. It is awe inspiring at the very least. So my hat goes off and utmost respect goes out to all who have served and who continue to serve (and their families).......you make me VERY proud to be an American! THANK YOU for all you do to keep us safe and protected.
How cute is this? Reminds me of Mr. Teddy when he was just a babe.....
Pinterest. I have to admit, I really didn't "get" all the fuss about Pinterest.....all I kept hearing was about how addicted everyone was and how they couldn't stay away. Well, though I am far from being addicted, think the light bulb has finally gone on and I have really started enjoying it, pursuing countless amazing boards and starting to collect wonderful images of my own. It is a fun and novel idea, and such a great way to chronicle and keep organized all you love and get inspiration from. Here are a few recent fave pictures from Pinterest.......
They call this a wedding clutch but I say it would be perfect for anyone anytime. How cute is this beaded monogrammed clutch? Love it!
Visit Toggle Home to get it and many other fabulous monogrammed goodies!
When it rained all day Sat. I met a friend for a movie and then we went shopping....was supposed to see Renoir but there was a misprint and the time was wrong so we saw The Big Wedding instead. Though the cast was definitely "A list", there was to me, some kind of disconnect in the story...I kept waiting to feel "hooked" but never did, I did however very much enjoy the gorgeous home, dreamy setting, furnishings and all the scrumptious wedding details in the movie. The delicious popcorn made up for a mediocre movie:) Still really really want to see Renoir, here's the trailer.....
How insanely good does this look? I mean seriously, this is as cute as it is delicious with a capital D I am sure! Click on Iowa girl eats to get the low down on how to make it. Love the idea for a big gathering, everyone gets their own little serving, no one has to feel "jipped" because someone got a bigger portion.......
Some of these were recommended to me by friends and other bloggers, and a few I just knew about because I have read books from that author...don't know that I will get through all of them but hopefully at least a few!
And I found this on none other than Pinterest so considering how convenient it is that there's a whole slew of books here to pursue, I am definitely going to look into this extensive list.....
So that's my Memorial Day wrap up. Hope you had an enjoyable, relaxing and safe weekend. Before you know it, it will be July 4th! And then we will get bombarded with back to school supplies and fall clothes preview..........yes life goes by fast! So enjoy it, wishing you a wonderful day and be back tomorrow!
Happy Memorial Day Tina, we are very blessed to live in this country. I had to laugh at the puppy ear flappping in the heat, Dylan used to do that when he was a puppy.
ReplyDeleteIt has been downright cold and rainy all weekend and today we're finally going to see some sun. Perfect to go out and honor the men and women in our local parade.

Hey Tina- your thoughts on this holiday are spot on, I always think about what a huge sacrifice those in uniform make for all of us, thanks for that tribute to them.
ReplyDeleteI can see how Pinterest coudl be addicting. Think that's why I have stayed away, haha. I will enjoy your pictures instead. Love all of them especially all the food pictures, gets my hungry!
I love reading too and just copied your list, hope to make a dent in some reading on our trip to Greece that we leave for next week. Reading on a vacation is to me heaven. Enjoy the holiday.
Oh Tina, there is so much here! First of all, YOU MUST READ STAG'S LEAP. Sharon Olds is a master poet and she is brilliant. Her life was stained by the world at a very early age, but she emerges in vindication, self-preservation, hope and brilliance in her poetry, that is sometimes very raw. But what a great read....and PINTEREST? HA! I admit it. I'm addicted. That is where I get a large number of my photos. But now I've discovered TUMBLR. This summer however, I am going to really try to get this house and garden in shape so I can photograph them!
ReplyDeleteWe too have been having crummy weather; 50ish, cloudy and not too promising! But we forge ahead....
Wishing you a lovely Memorial weekend as we all remember what others have done for US.
Love, Anita
Hello, my sweet friend!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post, Tina!
About reading, I put it aside for a while because you know how busy a mother of 3 children can be, but reading is one of my biggest passion in life. I could read a book after the other if I had the time.
You have selected some interesting choices. Thank you for sharing this, Tina.
Wishing you a very blessed week, my friend!

MUST read is On The Island by Tracey Garvis Graves. Best fiction ever. Just compelling and perfect in every way. Her second book "Covet" comes out in September. Read 'em!
ReplyDeleteTina- Dinner with the Smileys and The Apple Orchard are both fantastic, read them with my book club. Thanks for all the other great recommendations, a lot to look into!
ReplyDeleteLove all the Pinterest pictures and your kind words about our men/women in uniform. They really are true heroes.
Hope you have a fun day boating, that puppy picture is precious. LOVE that monogrammed clutch, may have to treat myself to a late birthday gift :-)
Oh I have to try that strawberry dessert in a jar!! Yummy! Thanks for all of the great book ideas! I'm reading a trilogy now called Shatter Me and I'm loving it so far. It's like a Hunger Games kind of book. Have a great day! And God bless you! XO
ReplyDeleteI just started 'And the mountains echoed' and it's as amazing as 'Kite runner' right from the start. I think you would love 'Rules of civility' if you haven't already read it. My mouth is watering from the blueberry pancake photo. Having my morning tea on a grayish cold day and those sound like a mighty good way to begin the day!

Yes I admit to loving Pinterest just mostly cuz it saves all these great internet moments for me so I can come back later and really delve into it. I won't have to rely on my brain to remember where i saw that thing i loved. That beaded monogram clutch was very chic~you do find us the best stuff Tina!
ReplyDeleteTina... That pic of the puppy - too cute! We stayed home with our girls. Love your book list. I'm reading The Stoyteller which I'm not sure I would recommend especially for Summer. Off to Conn on Wed for nef's grad and party. Just forwarded your link to her for the cute strawberry shortcake in a mason jar. Have a relaxing day!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Tina and Happy Memorial Day to you as well!
ReplyDeleteWe just got back from Coronado Island SD where half the land is occupied by various Navy bases...
My husband is a retired Navy fighter pilot and I get to spend time around military people, and I am always so impressed with them. They are truly good quality people, selfless and hardworking. I am so thankful for them and their dedication to keeping our country safe.
Hope you're having fun today! It's sunny and warmer now.
regards,

I am am avid reader, like 2-4 hours a night when I can't sleep, and I haven't read any of those books yet. I am adding them all to my list. I hope you got to go boating today. We had similar weather up until today, which was gorgeous.

Lovely Memorial Day post, darling. Yes, each day we should remember our military and their families. All of them give so much for the rest of us. I have a place at our table for an un-named hero today. He will be respected, honored and we will all say a prayer for all of them.
ReplyDeleteTina I am going to be adding several of these books to my kindle later on. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYes, our service men and women absolutely deserve regular praise and recognition for a job that many cannot and would be too afraid to do. They are the bravest of them all, God bless them and protect them always. We are very lucky to call America our home.
Love all the pup, food and clothing pictures. Have never gone on Pinterest and think I will keep it that way. I spend too much time on my computer as it is, haha. OK back to clean up from the BBQ for 35 that we had today. Hope you had fun.
How do you do all that you do??? And read so much? I'm listening to a book on CD that someone sent me to review about a blogger's fall from grace. It's pretty funny. Hope you are having a great day!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're getting into Pinterest - looking forward to pinning your pins!
ReplyDelete...it won't be long before you're totally addicted to Pinterest! haha.
ReplyDeleteHappy Memorial Day!
Please add to your reading list the following books I have loved:
ReplyDeleteThe Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion
Carlos Ruiz Zafon's trilogy - Shadow of the Wind; The Angel's game; The prisoner of Heaven.
The Book theif by Markus Zusak
The hundred year old man who climbed out of the window and disappeared by Jonas Jonasson.
Enjoy.
I love Elin Hilderbrand and actually got to go to one of her book signings when I was on vacation in Nantucket. She is very sweet and down to earth. Nothing better than reading on of her books on the beach!! xo
ReplyDeleteMy dad was reading the new Khaled Hosseini book this weekend and I'm hoping to borrow it when he's finished. I loved 'The Kite Runner' and 'A Thousand Splendid Suns'. I'm currently reading 'Lone Survivor'; it seemed appropriate for Memorial Day weekend.
ReplyDeleteI second the 'Unbroken' recommendation if you haven't read it already. I started it last Memorial Day weekend and it is truly one of the most moving books I've ever read. It's tough to swallow...very upsetting, but SO inspirational.
Hope you had a lovely weekend! Glad to see you on Pinterest :)
