Can we talk?
Hi there, well after our snowy, blizzar-y, whiteout weekend a weeks ago....I had plenty of time to catch up on a bunch of movies both old and new. I loved rewatching old favorites and of course relish discovering a new favorite. How about you? Do you enjoy rewatching old favorites over and over again or do you always enjoy the surprise of discovering something new?
There are so many and on any given day (when my memory is in good working order) I might remember an old favorite, but below are some of my all time favorites, ones that never seem to get old. I find myself laughing or crying like it was the first time I have ever seen it....amazing how certain flicks can prompt those emotions in us over and over. So....I would love to know what are some of your favorites? Anything new and great or old and wonderful that you want to share? Please tell, I have nothing on my agenda until tonight and would love a good recommendation! Cheers to lazy Sundays!!
So come on...its your turn to talk! I want to hear all your favorites, both old and new. Seen anything out in the theaters worth going to? Last one that I saw that I loved was Silver Linings Playbook....loved it! Can't wait to hear your take on movies.........enjoy your Sunday!
Also I am delighted to be have been featured over at Pamela's wonderful blog 'From my front porch to yours" for her regular feature "How I got my style".....its worth a look and do hope you will swing by to visit me there. Click here to visit....hope to see you over there!
We just cam home from watching Silver Linings Playbook
ReplyDeletemy hubby slept for about five minutes a little after the beginning
maybe because he just came from work and is tired or its just not a man-movie... but later he enjoyed the film too. Me? I enjoyed it a lot.
Some of My all time favorites that I can think of right now
is An Affair to Remember the one with Cary grant, Pretty Woman, Notting Hill, Reality Bites and the first Terminator... I really think it is a love story.
OK Tina for you this has to be the shortest post I've ever seen....lol. Hey we just watched Undre the Tuscan Sun last night and loved it! It's a dream of mine to move to Italy.
ReplyDeleteIt's snowing like crazy up here right now and I'm wondering where spring is hiding? Probably under a snow bank.
Enjoy your Sunday!

Debra, I agree. Everytime , I watch Under the Tuscan Sun, I am closer to packing .lol The ending was fantastic in it. :)
DeleteHi Tina have seen some of your favorites, funny someone at work mentioned The Namesake I really need to go see it, she said it was amazing. I think my all time favorite was Love Story,I have seen it at least a dozen times! I also like you loved The English Patient and Sense and Sensibility is another all time favorite. I love rewatching old favorites too...i feel in general movies were much better years ago. Fun idea for a post.
ReplyDeleteTina...I haven't been to a movie in so long...I am going to read through your comments and see what everyone likes.....maybe the hubby and i will go to the movies today!
ReplyDeleteLove The Holiday! I ended up featuring you today Tina!
ReplyDeleteGood morning Tina...Great topic! My husband and I see SO many movies - it's one of our favorite things to do. We even went to see a showing of the Oscar shorts. I saw all the Oscar movies except Amour and we still haven't made it to that yet, but I am anxious to see it. I love anything by Woody Allen, Sofia Coppola or Wes Anderson. Recently, SLP has been my favorite movie. A couple that that are now available On Demand that are worth watching - Life of Pi,Anna Karenina,Flight, Lincoln...
ReplyDeleteMy all time favorite movies are The Big Lebowski, Annie Hall and Pulp Fiction...sort of a strange mix.
We are off to lunch and to see "Koch" today...it looks interesting. Enjoy your Sunday!! xoxoxo
Hi Tina
ReplyDeleteI would add Love Actually, Best of Show, and Most of the Hitchcock Films!

What a great post. We don't go to the movies very often because quite frankly I rarely see one that is of interest to me or my husband. The last movie we went to the theatre to see was "The Help" and I bought it afterwards and have watched it over and over again. Both my husband and myself had tears streaming down our faces by the end of the movie. Being from the South and growing up during that time period, well let me just say,it made me realize how thankful I am that things in the South have changed as much as they have.
ReplyDeleteMy most favorite movie was "Gone With The Wind", loved the movie, read the book and have watched it over and over again. It was my mother's favorite, my favorite and my daughters favorite. My mother even had an original poster that now hangs in my daughters home. My mother was a young girl when the movie came out. Other favorites are all the ones you named and I also repeatedly watch "Steel Magnolia's" (so funny and heart breaking as well) and "Sweet Home Alabama". It sounds like I am stuck on films that are filmed in the South but those are just the ones that immediately pop into my head. I just watched "Somethings Gotta Give" last night and never tire of it. LOVE that beach house.
Carolyn/A Southerner's Notebook
It was SO fun to read more about you my dear! Happy Sunday and movie watching! Anita
ReplyDeleteYour guest post was fantastic! So many great tips. i am going buy fresh flowers and lighting a candle today in your honor!
ReplyDeleteLove the movie post too. Loved The Horse Whisperer, guess because I rode for many years and Holiday is an all time favorite of mine. I also really liked Casablanca and Roman Holiday (oldies) and for newer films, Facebook, Slumdog Millionaire and To Rome with love. Eclectic mix but all great movies!
I love Under the Tuscan Sun and Horse Whisperer Tina (can't go wrong with Robert Redford!) .. great line up of movies! I'm behind on reading AND watching movies. I need more time in the day and more energy! I'll pop over to the other post. Happy Sunday to you!

Some that I love that you might also- The Station Agent, Secondhand Lions, A Walk on the Moon, Billy Elliot, Bull Durham, Chariots of Fire, Rear Window, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Life as a House, Memoirs of a Geisha, October Sky, Secretariat, The Hurt Locker, The Majestic, Walk the Line, Far From Heaven. And pretty much anything with Robert Downey Jr.
ReplyDeleteWhat a good idea for a Sunday post. I am having fun reading through your readers comments too and think I am going to be a busy lady watching movies later today! My husband is a real movie buff and movie watching is a regular activity in this household. I love Woody Allen and pretty much anything he has made, many of the classics like Gone with the window, Breakfast at Tiffanys, the original Dr. Zhivago, Chariots of Fire, The Emperors Club...oh I could go on. So many good ones and yes I do love watching the really special ones over and over too, they never get old!
ReplyDeleteI have watched "under the Tuscan sun" about 10. Times at least and always feel good with it... Last night we enjoyed a funny one by Jason Segel "the five year engagement"((:xo z
ReplyDeleteSerendipity......with Kate beckinsale truly a favorite of mine!
ReplyDeleteI like to watch Serendipity each year during a snow storm - love it! I also love A Lot Like Love and Life As We Know It - Loved Silver Linings Playbook!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorites was "Chocolat", I think it came out around 2000. But in some ways, it reminds me of "Under the Tuscan Sun." I am also a big Richard Gere fan and loved "Intersection" with him and Sharon Stone. Enjoy the remainder of the week-end. :)
ReplyDeleteI wish it were a lazy Sunday but the here in Miami the weather is perfect and my boys have baseball games today, so I'll be gone most of the day watching them play which is a treat for me because I really enjoy watching their games. I've been wanting to see The Help. I didn't read the yet and it's on my list of things to do. I'm going to start reading Safe Haven today. My good friend told me she couldn't put it down! I need to relax with a good book this weekend or else! Love the Holiday! I watch it at least once a week while I fold clothes and I eat popcorn almost everyday! LOL!
ReplyDeleteGood: Ferris Beuhler
ReplyDeleteBetter: The Birdcage
Best: The Lion in Winter
Favorite line from K. Hepburn.
Henry tells her he wants to be
rid of her because he "wants
more sons..'" Those he has are
all planning his exit. KH: "Sons..?
You want more sons..? That is the
single thing, of which, I would
have thought YOU'D have had
enough..!"
I love all of yours plus...It's Complicated, When Harry met Sally, Love Actually, and Step Mom (with Susan Sarandon and Julia Roberts).
ReplyDeleteGood picks Tina, I liked them all. I also love movies that keep me on the edge of my seat, like Argo, The Italian Job, Crash, Bourne Identity. Besides that...anything with FOOD! Big Night, Julie & Julia, Chocolat, Sideways etc. We really need more good food movies that have incredible interior design and exotic locales.
ReplyDeleteGo see The Sessions! GREAT movie and so unexpected given the subject matter! This movie deserved so much more praise and attention than it got -
ReplyDeleteHelen Hunt, John Hawkes, & William H. Macy are just terrific and it is a true story. A must see for any adult who loves those special human beings who "triumph over all obstacles" in their lives!
OMG, I love movies big time. Not "The Sessions" though, as someone recommended. Waaaay too much nudity for me and a subject I found impossible. Some of my favorites you've already mentioned...The Holiday for certain. But, I'm a drama person, so here goes...The Departed, Inglorious Bastards, Meet Joe Black, Legend of the Falls (must love Brad Pitt too), Indecent Proposal, It's Complicated, and lately Argo. I still haven't seen Anna Karanina, kind of afraid I won't like the non-traditional version. It is simply so beautiful in Houston today, cool & sunny, a perfect day for gardening and my dogs. So why am I on my computer...I'm addicted to blogging !!
ReplyDeleteI just vivited Pamela and saw your home tour...your home is simply stunning! I left a comment and had to come and visit your blog! Sounds like you and I love a lot of the same movies! I've read many of these books, too. I feel a movie marathon coming on! :)
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
OK, I did not see It's complicated in your list!!! I totally loved it - made me laugh until I cried! M.
ReplyDeleteAll-time favorites include Gone With the Wind, North by Northwest and almost any old musical, from Oklahoma! to Chorus Line. I hope you enjoyed your afternoon and relaxed a little!
ReplyDeleteSending you a smile,
tp
I love all those you've shown plus Silver Linings is an instant classic. But I never tire of Somethings Gotta Give and It's Complicated. But...I have a new old movie that is a favorite that somehow I'd never seen until recently on TCM. It's Sullivan's Travels. It is the best! And then there is Palm Beach Story...both with Joel McCreay. I had no idea he was a romantic lead way back when. He is the cutest thing ever. If you have not seen these...you must and then I saw "The Lady Eve" with Barbara Stanwick and Henry Fonda...and it is delightful. This are all Preston Sturgis films. I love old black and white movies but somehow I'm missed these in the past. You must see them...oh..and a newer movie I love is "Miss Pettigrew Lives for the Day" The sets are out of this world. And I can never miss a showing of Wuthering Heights with Merle Oberon and Sir Lawrence Oliver. Also watched again recently...As Good as It Gets. That one is a charmer too....and I do love the old Penny Serenade with Cary Grant. I could go on and on...but you must see those Preston Sturgis films.
ReplyDeleteyou know i love your picks, tina. esp somethings gotta give, it's complicated, and the holiday. swedish fish! love em forever. just saw as good as it gets for the millionth time and love it. did u ever see sex, lies, and videotape. one of my top 3 favs. andie mcdowell is insanely good in it. i also adore groundhog day, field of dreams, signs, meet joe black, and the sandlot.
ReplyDeletehappy sunday to you.
michele
You really named almost all my favorites --- It's Complicated, The Holiday, The Help, Something's Gotta Give and Under the Tuscan Sun! Also love Chocolat, Pretty Woman, An Affair to Remember, Bridget Jones Diary, the first Sex and the City movie, Mama Mia and Dirty Dancing (the music reminds me of my high school days!) I'm definitely a "chick flick" girl.....anything too heavy or too sad stays with me too long!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry I am late to the party, but the Mister and I were shopping for vacuums. I know you are jealous. My favorite movie in the whole world is "The Way We Were." Lots of second bests ... anything written by Nora Ephron and also I love "Bridesmaids." Hope you enjoyed your day.
ReplyDeletethanks for share
ReplyDeleteAnything by Nora Ephron or Richard Curtis, anything with Ewan McGregor and movie musicals! Oh actually I have a new fondness for Jason Bateman too. And his movies always seem to have lovely houses in them!
ReplyDeleteI would add Mr. Holland's Opus and A Beautiful Mind.
ReplyDeleteMy favorites are....out of Africa....the way we were....the help....My cousin vinny....
ReplyDeleteWow this post is a keeper. So many good suggestions, from you and your readers. Not familiar with The Namesake and never saw The English Patient so two I will have to check out.
ReplyDeleteLoved the others, a good light upbeat comedy is my favorite genre but I do love others too...A beautiful mind, Good will hunting, The way we were, On Golden Pond, Steel Magnolias are a few that come to mind that I liked enough to buy and watch over and over.....fun post.
I don't think I can add any to this very great list... I love them all and agree... these films are like old friends... always a joy... I recently re-watched 'The way We Were'... it brought back so many memories... not so much the movie but the times when I watched it... that's the beauty of old favourites... xv
ReplyDeleteAgree w/your movies! Also, I simply adore "The Bridges of Madison County" with Meryl Streep...SO romantic. And for an old, black & white movie about soldiers returning from WWII, "The Best Years of Our Lives," also so, so romantic with my fav actress, Myra Loy. She had such class.
ReplyDeleteWarmly,
Marilyn
I have seen The Help, Under the Tuscan sun and Its complicated at least six times. Some movies just never get old and feel like an old shoe..they just fit. I do like many classics, Breakfast at Tiffanys, Love Story, Gone with the wind, there are so many. I am jotting down a whole bunch from the many suggested here!
ReplyDeleteI prefer all of the old classic movies..... great sets, beautiful scenery and a romantic story. But one of the best suspense movies I've watched {several times} is The Game - with Michael Douglas and Sean Penn. Keeps you on your seat right until the end.
ReplyDeleteWe need a movie date together because these are some of my favorites too! Except trade the Swedish fish for Nestle Bunch-a-Crunch and add a big Diet Coke :) One movie I ALWAYS stop to watch if it's on is 'A Perfect Murder'. Love a good crime story and Gwyneth's style in that flick just can't be beat!
ReplyDeleteMy all time favorite movie is Man from Snowy River. It's based in Australia, in the 1800's, has Kirk Douglas (who plays a double role), and horses, along with beautiful country scenes. Beautiful love story. Love it!
