One of my absolute most favorite flowers is the beautiful orchid. So elegant and regal, it is one of the few that as a lone flower, can stand up against the best of them. I have always loved orchids, and try to have one or two in my home at all times. They just make me feel happy and pampered, as most flowers do. I cannot think of a single flower or plant that can transform a coffee table, console, kitchen or any room for that matter like an orchid can.
It just adds instant elegance, refinement, sophistication and beauty and always works in giving that extra height to a vignette where differing heights of objects makes all the difference. So today is a tribute to the beautiful orchid plant, and clearly it works in virtually any room, any setting, any color any style! What do you think? Where and how do you like to use orchids? Are you as crazy for orchids as I am? I most definitely have orchiditis..........

So what do you think? Do you have a case of orchiditis like me? Its an affliction I am afraid there is absolutely no cure for! Love them...and good news is that they have honestly become more affordable than ever. We have a few florists locally that carry really exquisite large ones that seem to outlast all the others but even Home Depot gets them for 19.99 and though they may not last as long, its a beautiful effect for a month or two....just get a little creative with your containers, and voila, you have yourself an instant pop of elegance to add to any room in your home! Wishing you a fabulous Friday.
They are so beautiful and so understated. Can you believe I've never had a orchid of my own? Never. I know, huh? Must be that rock I live under!! xo
ReplyDeleteI do love orchids and after seeing this post am going to go buy myself one today. I love all the displaying ideas and got some good ideas for my own house here. Who knew that H.Depot would have them? I am going to give my local store a call, great idea Tina!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day, love your new store and look forward to receiving my order.
Like you, I absolutely
ReplyDeleteadore orchids, Tina.
And with sources like
Costco, Ikea, Trader
Joe's and H.D. having
them reasonably priced,
they are a fun indulgence.
That said, do you have
any tips for keeping them
alive? I seem to kill mine
with kindness : ( After
losing the last one, I have
not brought another home ~
too sad! So please, please,
share your tips for watering,
etc.
Love all these inspiring
images ~ thanks sweet friend!
Happy Friday,
xx Suzanne
Love orchids! I have had a few in my house but wish I knew better how to keep them alive longer and also what to do after they are finished blooming.
ReplyDeletei adore orchids.
ReplyDeletein fact 1 have 3 huge one in tall glass vessels on my huge lucite console.
gorgeous.
xx
Holy moly! What wonderful eye candy first thing in the morning. Picture after picture of beautiful orchids and interior design. I absolutely love the Accent on Design photo with the orchid planted in the large shell. Something I am certain I will soon be creating myself. Thanks for getting my day off to such a beautiful start.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tina!
I love orchids too and have "orchiditis" too. I just bought one about a month ago and had it replanted into a beautiful container I bought in Spain a few years ago, put it right on the table in my foyer and its the first thing you see when you walk in, I agree they have the power to make a great statement in a room unlike any other flower.
ReplyDeleteOne plant I can't kill!!! Have always loved them.....and just adding those 3 ice cubes a week is the easiest thing to do!!! Thanks for all of those gorgeous pictures Tina.
ReplyDeleteI have orchid-envy... I don't have a green thumb (more like a brown arm) so I definitely would never try to tackle a real orchid - and I am not much on the silk plant fan-side either... (but do have a couple fern/ivy arrangements - which have to look so real that you must walk up and touch to convince yourself)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations again on all the great success with your home and your shop - you got it all going on, girl! You are truly blessed.
AMAZING images... Thanks so much for sharing and have a great weekend.... Happy St. Patty's Day! Jalon
I most certainly have orchiditis! But such a good maladie to have.... Have a great weekend Tina... xv
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful way to start the day! I love to have orchids in my home, and you've shown how to display them in so many decorative vignettes. Great post, Tina!
ReplyDeleteLove 'em. So elegant and chic. I have a terribly un-green thumb and they never last long when they come live with us, poor things. But I keep trying. Happy, happy weekend Tina. Hope things slow down a bit for you. XO
ReplyDeleteLove orchids! They are one plant I cant kill! Give them an ice cube a week and they do pretty well. We love using orchids and coral in our design plans. They both are so chic!
ReplyDeleteI think orchids make a room...quietly sitting in a corner in something beautiful, preferably old, and looking like the most perfect little thing!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures. I love orchids too.
ReplyDeleteHello Tina, I love orchids, All kinds, the best for me are the Phalies, Miltonias, Cymbidiums and Dendrobiums. I have them in every single room of my house. Once they are in blossom they do not require special light, only running a little water through them once a week. There is no need to use plastic orchids when the real thing blooms for 3 to 4 months.
ReplyDeleteTina, I could not agree with you more! Orchids are one of my favorite, I have a bronze container in my entry way that I l always keep filled with orchids. Beautiful post. I will post photos of the antique mirror in my closet when it goes in, hopefully in a couple of weeks they will have it. Also I decided not to put the pull down rods in my closet on the top just because of the room they take up so I am just going to use that space for out of season clothes. Have a wonderful day!

I think orchiditis is contagious! I've got a bad case and need to find a cure today, I've even seen them at Costco. Such a pretty collection of ideas, thanks for the inspiration, Tina!
ReplyDeleteI have had orchis in my home constantly for at least the last 1o years. They are so easy to care for. Love them.
ReplyDeleteKim
Great collection of images. I have one in my entry, on my mantle, on a table in my bedroom and on my tub deck. All different varieties. Love orchids! Sadly though, mine are all fake. I can't seem to keep one alive!!! Please give us a tutorial on how best to care for them!
ReplyDeleteThey are such fabulous flowers, you highlight the many ways they can enhance a setting, any setting! I actually have a brother with a botany degree who raises them and has them all over his law offices, talk about perking up the office! This is a stellar post, showing how many ways they can be used, what a wonderful touch you have. :)
ReplyDeleteSending you wishes for a splendid weekend,
tp
I love the look of orchids! My mom and I always joke that they always die on us though, any tips for keeping them alive?
ReplyDeleteI too, love orchids. I have one I bought at BJ's and it has been blooming since June..That's 10 months of delight! Love the new store..talk about delight!
ReplyDeleteI just love orchids too! They bring such beauty and elegance to a space. Love these photos, Tina! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI love orchis! The only one I have is faux and I bought it from Williams Sonoma Home....hehehe.
ReplyDeleteBeing a huge gardener I love all kinds of flowers but did not discover orchids until I moved and a new neighbor gave me one as a gift. Now I always have atleast two in my home. In fact, recently I purchased one at H.D. that was quite large, so large that I actually had to cut it..gasp!..and put it in a beautiful blue/white porcelain vase on top of the piano and it has been just fine. I have another in a blue/wht container in the kitchen. I prefer them to be white & in a blue/wht porcelain container with moss. I just love that sophisticated look that orchids achieve so easily. The only other one stem flower that could compete would be a white lily. Thanks for the beautiful images, the Mary McDonald is my favorite!! there is also a pic in blogland of Oscar de la Renta's living room in Punta Cana filled with chinese porcelain & white orchids..gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteSuch opulent inspiration! I never managed to grow orchids or at least to allow them to thrive.... I know somebody who has, so it must be a matter of green fingers!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful ideas Tina! I have four orchids and you are right - they like the humidity (kitchens, shower area). The pink and white orchids look great in the blue and white containers. I haven't mastered the re-blooming process.. fortunately the flowers last a long time!
ReplyDeleteOrchids are one of my favorite flowers!! They are timeless and transcend all styles!!
ReplyDeletewww.donnaviningblog.com
I think they are SO worth the money because, with the right care, they last and last. I love their opulence. Gorgeous X10
ReplyDeleteGood morning, Tina! I didn't hear about the ice cube watering method until recently. Great idea,
ReplyDeleteALSO, I just happen to know off a place where you can find a WONDERFUL SELECTION OF PORCELAIN! Some of which would make great spots to plant the beautiful orchid!
Heading over to your shop!,
Barbara
I'll never overlook an orchid searching for a rose. I love orchids! I wa searching for one that would look good in my daughter's room & found the mini cymbidium orchids that also work great in terrariums, by the way.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who does not like orchids, and I cannot even BEGIN to understand it!
Keri
Lovely, lovely, lovely! I was already a fan, but now I'm ready to go get an orchid for every room.
ReplyDeleteHello Tina!
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling my friend I have had a week like that...too much to do and not enough time if one actually wants to sleep for at least 5 hours.
Congratulations on your success! I am so excited for you. The store is fabulous and I have loved looking at all of your carefull currated treasures.
I think orchids are so beautiful but I have never ever had luck with these plants...then again I do not have luck with any plants inside the house.
I hope you have a fabulous weekend, enjoy it whatever you do a weekend adventure or a weekend at home. Both would be wonderful as long as you are with people you love.
If you would like a great read go over to Ciao Dominica and read Sunday Taylors tag. It is so great. I tagged her after you tagged me.
Thank you for always coming to comment! You are so sweet.

My love for orchids and all kinds of sub-tropical plants developed after living in Miami and travelling throughout Southeast Asia. When I moved to the Mid-Atlantic I styled my home British Colonial so my plants would look right at home. I have the most gorgeous purple phalaenopsis sitting in a Celadon green vase at the edge of my bathtub that is now in it's 4th year of blooming - it makes me so happy! It get's the right amount of moisture and light. I really should bring it downstairs next time company comes so it's beauty can be shared. Besides orchids, my home is filled with Bromeliads in brass planters.
ReplyDeleteOrchids... Such loveliness. Even in temporary living, I need my orchid/s. One is on my desk and greets me every morning while I check emails. How beautiful the orchids would look in the lovely containers you offer on-line! Looking forward to moving into my home so I can add some of your on-line treasures to it. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the beautiful images. Hope your weekend is relaxing!
Judy
I adore orchids. They are fresh and simple, yet make a big statement. I have three of them around my house that are fake. They look real, though! I can't seem to keep one alive for the life of me. Have a great weekend Tina!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful images! I, too, am an orchid lover and killer. My outside ones grow great but the inside...not so much. I am thinking the kindness killer tendency should be replaced with a bit more benign neglect!
ReplyDeleteLots of great tips in these comments!
xo, Chris
Orchids are some of our most popular designs - in fact, it was a lovely phalaenopsis that got us into business at Bergdorf Goodman 15 years ago... We never tire of these beauties! Happy weekend, Tina!

Ahhhh...so delicate and beautiful!!! Fabulous post!! xoxo Elizabeth
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing as elegant as an orchid. Your photos are amazing! Have a wonderful weekend!

What a beautiful post. I also love orchids and growing up with a mother who was and still is an avid gardener, she spent more time in her greenhouse than in the main house!
ReplyDeleteI did not inherit her natural way with plants but I still buy orchids regularly along with other plants I like to have. Orchids are actually quite resillient and I have found that having a little spray bottle handy with room temp. water is a good way of not letting them totally dry out, just a little spritz once a week or every 10 days. This post shows orchids in their best light.
Wow! What a way to start the day. I must confess I have an orchid problem too. In Jan I purchased 3 cymbidium orchids and every day for 2 months I enjoyed the day beautiful blooms.
ReplyDeleteThank you for bringing everything U enjoy to life in your blog.
Have a wonderful day!
Gloria B.
I've never had much luck with them, but have been thinking I want to try my hand at them again...this post convinces me of that. Have a great weekend, Tina. XO, Mona
ReplyDeleteadore orchids, particularly white.........loved the white orchid in the large shell
ReplyDeletewhen mine have finished flowering in goes a faux. with the live foliage, support, twine, you would swear it is real. the trick however is buying the really good faux's only.
happy weekend tina

I think this is first time I have commented on your blog. I adore it! So proud you opened your shop. I do love orchids. Here in S CA., we can get them quite cheaply + they last & last. Have a happy weekend. xxpeggybraswelldesign.com
ReplyDeleteNot having a green thumb, orchids seem to really work for me. I always try to have at least one in my home at all times. I love looking at all the beautiful colors in the store, but find that white works best in my decor. Besides their beauty, I love them because they last quite a long time. Thanks for so many beautiful images and ideas!
ReplyDeleteIMHO, orchids are the PERFECT accent for ANY room! I love them. I feel a trip to HD coming on for some new ones:):) XO, Pinky PS, just found a beautiful new blue and white container that will be filled with orchids!!!!
ReplyDeleteA visual feast - so many beautiful spaces with one of my favourite flowers.
ReplyDeleteWarm wishes.
I have one in my bedroom and one in the powder room...I do love them, too! Especially how long they last. I add moss and twigs to mine.
ReplyDeleteI love these phtos!!!!!
ReplyDeleteFabulous post. I love orchids too, so peaceful and chic.
ReplyDeleteLeeann x
That living room is divine!
ReplyDeleteYour title reminded me of the famous “Sonnet 43” by Elizabeth Barret Browning. :D Lol. I love orchids too! But my love for orchids is nothing compared to your fascination with them. You actually got your whole house filled with orchids (real, replica, or printed), which is impressive and is an apparent sign of how much you adore them. Nice!
