Mid week musings........

Good morning to you. Well first things first....very happy to announce a lucky winner of the pair of blue and white plates. Congratulations goes to.....

Result:  33   Scribbler July 11, 2013 at 10:21 AM

All your things are beautiful so it would be hard to choose a favorite! I would have to say for RIGHT NOW that I would love the bathroom set because I am getting ready to redo one of my baths. The plates are just really gorgeous too.

As with all my random musings post...this one is a bit of this and a bit of that. I loved hearing your take on the white dresses yesterday. Many of you loved my personal fave too, #3 though for the event tomorrow night its way too dressy, it is the kind of dress I would love to own and have in my closet, it feels like a throwback to elegant timeless Audrey Hepburn but there were so many I loved. If you missed the post click here, and weigh in on your favorite. Let's get started, shall we?

Very picture heavy....don't say I didn't warn you!

One Kings Lane. Admittedly I have grown a little skeptical of this site. I used to love it but my last three orders either came in damaged or were of inferior quality...so that was a huge disappointment. One was pillows that were so cheaply made I ended up giving them away, two broken ice buckets and dishes that came in that looked beautiful online but were really horrible in person. So though I still like to occasionally look I am have been leary about ordering any more. However I would have soooooo made an exception for both of these items.......both sold out!!!! The chairs I was devastated over...they are sooo beautiful, they belong here!!! Come to mama.......

I was however on a small scale able to score at least something, got  these lovely French bath products...I am sucker for fine soaps and anything with lavender.

Always keep these types of things on hand as last minute gifts...they are perfect!

Pillows......again! So this time around I am stressing and mulling over choices for my back patio. The Chiang Mai look gorgeous back there, I must say. Wrong size, I need bigger (but you get the idea)....however have found these, also Schumacher which have a similar feel but are still different (awaiting swatches to seal the deal).  Thoughts and opinions? Such a hard choice.....really love them all!

I like the idea of using these with one of the geometrics above

Or I can stay with what I have
And I have ordered lumbars in navy with ivory monogram to use on the club chairs....

A good cookbook. You know me and my books. I just can't seem to stop buying them. Just ordered Mastering the Art of Southern Cooking. I had given this to a friend who loves to cook for her birthday  and when she started telling me about all the delectable recipes she has tried from the book and told me it's now one of her favorite books (a big compliment because this girl is a serious cook) I knew I had to get one of my own....all in the name of keeping my southern heritage alive of course (and those taste buds on high alert)! Click here to see it on Amazon.

A wonderful cause. A reader of mine (who I will be  meeting in Charlottesville) sent me information on a grassroots group, Lifenotes Music For Children, that  she is involved in and asked for my support. It is a child safety program and I am always eager to help even in a very small way when it comes to anything with kids. Recognizing that kids are auditory learners and love music, this teaches them safety, healthy and character through music.....love the concept.

I was happy to do it and thought it was worth sharing in case you too feel inclined to help out. There is no such thing as a donation too small and literally every dollar is so appreciated. Click here for more information.

More Hamptons bliss. I don't know about you, but I never ever tire of seeing the beautiful Hamptons. Hopefully you agree because here are some wonderful highlights from recent trips out that way (that I forgot were on my computer)!
Super charming Sag Harbor, if you ever get the chance....go!
These dudes have a rough life......

This set the tone for our lunch with a front row seat of the yachts (my friends idea to place the glass here and she's onto something:)
We had fun watching the crews lug things from oodles of flowers to fresh produce onto the yachts

Doesn't this look wonderfully old fashioned down to the vintage car?
And this my friends,  is the famous American Hotel, a famous small town hotel where legions of famous faces and minds have visited
The newest "it" hotel Topping Rose House
We hit the cute pop up shop of Serena and Lily
The decor was perfect for the beach lifestyle
 This was cheery...

Here is the house dubbed "the perfect house" by  my boys when they were about five years old, it's stuck ever since:)

East Hampton patriotism at its finest
Hydrangeas are everywhere.....must be that salt air that keeps them so beautiful!

I think these boys were artists and were sketching this beautiful scene, though I was hoping they would move!

And then another day we were at Dockers in Quogue and I loved this bar stools, done in navy and white...so chic.

Around my house.  Back to the drawing board, and want to finalize pillow selections, get them ordered, get the rest of my trees (now that I found them) and finish up the patio while we can still enjoy it! Awaiting fabric swatches for pillows and rest of trees coming in this week....

I stuck a tree in just to get an idea.....love it. The tree is about 7 feet tall to give you an idea. I LOVE these planters but they are obviously too small, so the search continues for planters that I can get now and not have to order.....
Added the geometric with navy tape, love it

Do you like the lumbar or square on these chairs?

These bad boys are slowly coming back....they took a beating in the 99 degree heat and intense humidity, so much so that we had to move them. They are finally getting a little life back

Mini and mama orchid. If you are thinking the colors look odd, guilty as charged...I started fiddling with settings on the camera and changed it without knowing how to change it back!

Love this pale lilac hydrangea too in my statuary planter

Added a bunch more of the richly hued hydrangea now growing in abundance around here, think they look perfect in the blue and white container......
 Love mixing the colors

  1. GLORY.

From the pink champagne (I could use some right now!) to the hydrangeas at the Hamptons, the vintage clapboard homes to the harbor, your post is luscious, Tina. And of course, your loggia and patio are places I am enjoying resting at when I come to visit YOU.

We are headed for some humid weather today, and I best go out and water my plants before they sag!

So good to see the Hamptons through your eyes. Beautiful, my lovely friend. Anita

  2. Love this post. Your patio slays me every time. Love the original pillows but love the new ones too. You always make the right decision.

Love all the new porcelains and of course always enjoy the Hamptons pictures, and like you never can get enough. It is so beautiful and always fun to see. Thank you for sharing.

PS Your hydrangeas are so beautiful!

  3. Hi Tina- you always deliver on providing my morning inspiration and eye candy. Your Hamptons pictures make me really want to plan a few days there, it is so pretty.

Love the hydrangeas too, the variation of purples is so eye catching. I would love to know if there are tricks and tips as to once you cut them, any advice on how to keep them lasting? I seem to get droopy blooms within a day or two.

Lovely belljars, I hope to get two for my island when my kitchen renovation is complete early fall. They are really elegant.

  4. Good morning Tina! I have to get that cookbook...I love southern foods (and also need to try hard to keep my southern roots alive). Sorry to hear about the problems with OKL...I have been resisting even looking at their site lately, but your French inspired soaps and lotions have me clicking over there right now.

    Enjoy this steamy day! xoxo

  5. Just a suggestion - why not have the chairs replicated to get better quality. Either with chair of similar design for the frame - have them finished in that paint treatment and add fuller down-filled cushions made to order. Better quality and longer life to the product than what 1stDibs is offering.
Your patio and loggia would look very lush with the addition of full Boston ferns - the green plantings are an anchor for all the blue & white and is so pretty when it blows in the breeze.

  8. Tina for the chairs,I like lumbars also feel they are more comfortable to sit with. I love both the old and new pillow styles, not a bad decision among them and like the idea of adding the geometric to break up the pattern.

I always enjoy your Hamptons highlights, just beautiful. The flowers and your patio always take my breath away. Hydrangeas dont' grow so well here so its always a huge treat to see them growing in such abundance.

Hope you have a nice day. Lucky lady to win the plates! I love all your new items.

  10. Love the geometric style pillows Tina and the lumbars are super comfy. I one every morning while I check my emails. Your Mini and mama orchids are so pretty. I always have them around the house. Although I've not been successful at getting them to re-bloom, I find the flowers last long enough to make them a worthwhile purchase. Your hydrangea are so pretty! I need white thrown in my mix.. just running out of space. They go bonkers and take over the yard!

    Enjoy your day!

  12. Tina, I had all kinds of running commentary in my head as I scrolled through your lovely post. Then I got to the photo of the hydrangea arrangement at your house and forgot everything else. SO BEAUTIFUL. What happiness! It just epitomizes summer. I loved how you've mixed the colors and of course the blue and white! I'm inspired and am off to get my garden sheers. XOXO

  13. Dear Tina, gosh I wish I had known you were giving away pillows! :) Really though I think the squares are large enough; also makes them more versatile. Love adding in the geometric and it has become a classic.

The breadboards are still on my wish list and the new pieces for the shop are perfect.
Thank s for sharing so much or your fun trips!

  14. Tina, Dearest:
What a surprise when Beth Hyder called me this morning to let me know she had just read your post. She was so excited to see that you had given a nice shout out to LifeNotes Edutainment. Jacquie Sullivan, the creator of LifeNotes was so delighted to see it as, as well. For your readers that may not know, we are raising money to make another CD. If you go to the place in your blog you can hear parts of it being recorded. This teaches children about safety through song and dance. The Children love it and we are doing a free 4 day camp in Keswick, VA starting July 22nd. Thank you for your kind donation as well. Every penny counts when you are doing a start up yourself.
You have always been a great roll model in all the things you do. Thank you for sharing your talents.
    Cheers,

  15. I'll take a dose of Hampton photos any day. Wishing I were there for the summer! Beautiful things as always. I vote for the lumbar pillow. The hydrangeas by your front door are glorious!

  16. Beautiful post. I love the Hamptons pictures but the ones of your patio and flowers even more. Those purple and blue hydrangeas are so beautiful and love all the pillow choices!

Its been a busy summer with all the kids here and working but I try to stop in and when I do I always so excited to see what you post. I have to get that cookbook. LOVE southern food, rock on Paula Deen aka queen of southern cooking!

  17. Tina... You're not first one to complain about One Kings Lane. I've known a few people that were not happy with their experience. Love all the pics of the Hamptons. Your patio looks so lovely. And thanks for the rave on the cookbook. Always looking for something fun to give as a hostess gift!! Have a wonderful day!

  19. Tina,

I am sorry you have had problems with OKL, I had ordered a lantern when wisteria had a sale and it came broken. But all of the other items I have ordered were great!

Love the pillows, all of them. I cannot get enought of the blue and white. It looks fabulous.

I can see why your hydrangea are suffering, the weather is blistering!

I think your trees look wonderful in the planters! You must find them in a larger size, the look like the planters at Versailles in the Orangerie.

Thnks for sharing the Hamptons photos, looks fun. And I think The Perfect House is the perfect name for that beautiful house.

I hope you have a great time at the fundraiser!

  21. Gorgeous! Love this post. Everything about it from the your home to The Hamptons, to the beautiful hydrangeas, my favorite flower. Thanks for the eye candy.

  22. My experience with One Kings Lane has also become increasingly disappointing. The last few things I've ordered were either of low quality, damaged or, in the case of an expensive tray, a poorly restored mess. They've also gotten sloppy (I'm resisting saying "dishonest") with descriptions. A "terra cotta" pedestal I ordered was some sort of plastic-covered plaster. A "pewter" tray was really tin, with a sort of pewter coloring on the front. A "copper" tray was also tin, with a couple of small areas of copper covering.

I fear they've just gotten too big, are trying to sell too much stuff, and seem invested in showing only the best angles of things, rather than clarifying what the strengths and weaknesses are. Even Ebay sellers are more honest than that! With easy online access to auctions, I've decided to do my purchasing that way, as I've just lost faith in OKL.

  27. I do so enjoy these posts which have a little bit of everything. I never tire of your lovely road trips, and of course, a look at gorgeous Sag Harbour always makes my heart sing. I drank many a glass of wine at the bar of the American Hotel on my own when I was travelling around the east coast solo - secretly hoping I might meet my music idol Billy Joel! Ahh such memories. Your house is such an inspiration - go the Chiang Mai pillows, nothing beats it!

  31. Hey Tina! So good to read your blog again…I can't believe how busy this summer has been and I often wonder how I ever had time to sit and read blogs like I used to? I want to be able to enjoy that again! Loved all of your pictures! Your boys are right about the perfect house! It was stunning! And the hydrangeas are phenomenal! LOVE how vibrant the colors are…and yours were just as pretty if not prettier! I would love to be up in your part of the country! Can't wait to get that cookbook! I am always looking for a new and great one and this will be my goal once Market Day is over this weekend! Whew….it's a sale that we dread every year! Anyway, loved all of your pillows…loved the lumbar in those chairs! I would definitely do that one! Loved all of your "goodies" for sale as well. If you want a great source for blue and white that has phenomenal prices I would love to tell you about them! We order from them for several different things and they are actually right here in Birmingham…on the outskirts. Great company and great products. Ok…this was a long comment I know but wanted to get everything in it! Thanks for this great post! Now it's off to tag more items in the shop for Market Day!
