Which would you choose?

Good morning, I am a bit off schedule lately as I am sure you have gathered. Busy days are keeping me well, busy. (almost all house biz) but with the start of school, this brings a flurry of activity as most of you know too. On top of that, when I got myself together and finally was able to allot a little time to spend over at the house, within 2 minutes of taking my 6th picture, my camera died! Ugh....very frustrating. So, instead of posting a skimpy post I am going to go back later today and will have a post on house updates and things I am loving tomorrow, better late than never, right?  In the meantime........

I always love to know what excites people, what the pulse is of all the design savvy people who are as obsessed about design and decor as I am! I have decided to run a series "which would you choose" showing choices in any one given category and asking for you to vote on your personal favorite. Today, I thought it would be fun to show you five fabulous homes. Here is where you come in.....just envision you have to pack up and move tomorrow, you can move into any one of these five homes!  In terms of locale, to make it really optimal imagine they are wherever you want them to be, coastal, city or country...your choice. Which would be your pick and why? I can't wait to hear.....

HOUSE 1. Stately 1905 clapboard colonial totally renovated. Chic, sophisticated and luxurious

HOUSE 2. Newly built Palladian style residence. Elegant, refined and inviting

HOUSE 3. Architectural gem newly built, moody, dramatic and opulent.

HOUSE 4. Very formal, opulent and luxurious Regency style residence.

HOUSE 5 Casual, elegant and refined Clapboard shingle.

Wow not a bad one in the bunch, it just boils down to personal taste and lifestyle...don't you think?  So curious to see which gets the most votes, 1,2, 3 4 or 5!! Hope you will let me know your pick and why!  Wishing you a wonderful day.

  1. Are you kidding me, we can only pick one house? Tough choice but I would have to pick house 1 the colonial I need grass and lots of it. Inside it is relaxed but has all sorts of wonderful antiques just my style. These are all beautiful homes and I'm glad this is a pretend exercise because I would want to live in each for different reasons.

  2. Definitely House #1. Everthing seems to be in context here. The house still retains its wonderful charm both inside and out! If I can say the rest appear a little ostentatious for me

    ReplyDelete
  3. For sure, number one. I love the way it looks, very much my dream house stepped up a tad. But inside I would have to dress it down a bit in formality, add some friendlier colors and patterns to suit my style. Great post Tina!

  4. I'm also a huge fan of #1 to live in, but I'd want #5 as my beach house for sure. Can you tell I live in the NE for the traditional colonial and the Hamptons house :)

  5. Tina, you had me at 'Colonial'! This has been my favorite house style since I was a little girl. The grounds and exterior are magnificent. I love the beautiful, natural light provided by the generous sized windows. The deep, rich hardwood floors that carry throughout the home are simply stunning, and the white kitchen with the unique breakfast bar and long stool is absolute perfection.
No.5 is very appealing as well, with its incredible ceilings, tastefully decorated rooms and fabulous covered porches. I'm not a fan of its curb appeal, however, but the interior is lovely.
Wonderful post, Tina. I hope your camera cooperates for your house updates post tomorrow!

  6. I also am going for house number one. I just love the warm, traditional feel and that yard is so inviting.

  7. I'm with KD... I'd like to live in #1, but since we're dreaming here #5 would definitely be my vacation house! BEAUTIFUL homes!

    ReplyDelete
  8. House number 2 for me hands down (more for the interiors than the exterior) house 5 next and then house 1. House 2 has that classic traditional clean look that I favor and that kitchen is to die for!

Can't wait to see the house updates!!

  9. House 5, I assume its in the Hamptons or Marthas Vineyard, its so light and airy and big and welcoming.

Nothing stuffy about it but its really elegant at the same time.

    Wonderful post!

  10. Definitely house 1, but house 5 for my vacations...

    ReplyDelete
  11. I was going to say #1, until I saw #5. Number 5 is perfect in every way. When can I move in?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Anyone who knows me would not be surprised by my choice - number 1 for me as well. I agree with David, this is the only one where, as he says, everything seems to be in context. And as much as I love Nantucket and shingle style, this one just doesn't look like an architect was involved - a tad too builder special. Many of the houses do have spectacular locations however.

  13. HOUSE 3 FOR ME HANDS DOWN. Architecturally it is incredible, and that is very much my style. Would move there in a heartbeat! The first house actually bothers me because though its a classic clabboard traditional it did not stay true at all to its roots inside. Its very fragmented and not at all a cohesive feel that is not married with the exterior. I don't understand why some people do that to a house, I am surprised so many like it to be honest.
Each of these homes however has something special but house 3 is just perfect to me.

  14. I like the kitchen and staircase in number 2 but number 1 has authenticity. Gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'd take 1 and 5, but they are all amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  16. HOUSE 3, with my twists. Actually less twists:)

    ReplyDelete
  17. House 1....preferably located on St. Simons Island, GA....where I currently live.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ok, Tina, they are all gorgeous, but I will have to choose the first house and the second for my country home.
I know that you are busy and excited. Hav e anice day.

  19. House #1. I really feel the warmth in this very large home, but it needs a tennis court for my hubby!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Tina, your not making it easy so I'll have to have two houses. Since I love colonial styles I would choose number 1, its everything I love in a house, I would also take the last one for entertaining my family at the beach. Its fun to dream!

  21. Sign me up for House #3 please, I am *in* like nobody's business! Of course, one requires a home-away-from-home place to escape to, we'll take #5 for those purposes.

Hang in there on the schedule flurries and adaptations, it will get better. :)

  22. I love the interior of house #2 though I always considered my style to be colonial or georgian. I would arrange the outdoor furniture differently - the fireplace is awesome. This is making me want to redecorate my house!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hi, Tina,
I hope furniture and furnishings are not included in the decision-making process, because that would help some and hurt others. I probably would never live in an old house again after selling my 1790s home last year, but I must say House #1 has the most character to my eye. It is what I love about old houses; beautiful woodwork, lovely layouts, interesting, real and approachable interiors. I love the sunporch, the dining room and, especially, the library. The kitchen is pretty, except for the island -- that countertop has to change and I do not like the cantilevered shelf/bar, nor the RH? wine barrel stave chandelier. The grounds are lovely.

Houses 2 and 3 are too large for me. The kitchen in #2 is beautiful, but the layout is not user friendly -- stove, sink and fridge are on the same wall -- too much walking. I would like their breakfast room and their collection of blue and white pottery, but I digress. The kitchen in #3 is killer. House #4 is way too over-the-top for me, especially the kitchen. House #5 is very Nantucket and probably the most approachable of all, but I am sticking with House #1, unless I can have #5 for my summer place.
    Best...Victoria

  25. Definitely house # 2 and like many others here, house # 2 as my beach house, lah dih dah, lol! House # 2 has a nice mix of traditional, love the blue porcelain, etc.

What jumped at me in House # 1 is that it is lacking in print fabrics, almost all of the fabric and upholstery is solid. It would soften some of the windows and the rooms if there were more print fabrics and drapes and it would add a lot of visual interest and warmth.

In House # 3, I would put a large painting over the fireplace in the study and less flat things in the bookcases, to bring the eye up more.

    That's my two cents!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Sorry, I meant to say House # 5 as my beach house.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I love classic and traditional with a touch of modern so my picks would be 1 and 2! 3 is a bit too modern for me although the architecture is stunning and 4 is a little too heavily decorated for my taste. 5 would be lovely for a beach house!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hands down Number 1 and my city home and the shingled home at the beach on Nantucket as my summer home! Oh! did you say we had to choose one? Well then it would be the first beauty! Thanks for a fun post and so sorry to hear about the camera! It is always something....

  29. It would have to be number 1. The style, setting and ambience are right for me.
    It doesn't try too hard.

  30. Hi Tina!
There are three there that I love! I love the look of the first one and the interiors of the second one, but at this point in my life, I am ready for the Nantucket Beach house. Casual, classic and the views.... I would take a little thatched roof hut if I could have that view!
    Great post!

  31. I would go for house #1. I love the backyard and pool and the interior is beautiful as well. House #5 would be my second choice. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Although they are all amazing homes, I would definitely choose number 2 because of the materials used throughout the home. In addition, I love blue and white porcelain, faience, ceramic, etc when used as decoration in a home. I also loved the molding in the bedroom and the overall elegant feel of the home. It felt much less "designer" and much more owner/family than the others. Very elegant.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Well, if my interior calculator is accurate, house #1 is by far the winner! Truthfully all were stunners.

This is the first I recall you mentioning school age kid(s)! Glad to hear! Now, the question is, what happens when they skate board through the kitchen!? :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. #2 for me all the way, not super in love with the exterior bu the interiors rock! I also think #3 is well done for that style, #1 is pretty but the inside really doens't at all go with the facade, I was surprised actually though there are some pretty rooms.
Love the interiors of #5 but not digging the exterior as much and #4 has some beautiful rooms but its just too formal and stuffy for me. I am ready to move to house #2~

    ReplyDelete
  35. Okay, I'm needing two...is that greedy?!! The first is my perfect permanent home. Love the stately yet livable feel and the last one is a must for my dream vacation home - shingles and the beach...heavenly!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I love house 4, there are changes I would make however!
Get rid of all the window treatments, paint the kitchen a soft gray, I would keep the dining room as is however.

The bedroom would get a revamp, its way too overdone and beige. But overall the house has incredible features and architecture and is a very grand home, dream big, right?

I also think the second house has beautiful interiors. I am a very traditional gal at heart so the others are too modern or transitional for my personal taste.

    Great job, this was fun!

  37. This is what I love in order-
    house 2
    house 1
    house 4
    house 5
    house 3

    Have a good day, LP

    ReplyDelete
  38. I have always dreamed of a white house with black shutters like house #1 and I love the casual interiors of house #5 (and all of the blue and white, of course).

    ReplyDelete
  39. I like house 1 and 4. I love the finishes and formality of 4 but its a bit over the top. I love the traditional feel of 1. Combination of the two would be perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Although I am clearly in the minority here, house #3, although the exterior is not typically my style. The kitchen and bath alone are to die for!

    ReplyDelete
  41. This was a no-brainer for moi! House #1 fits my mid-atlantic, N. Virginia locale perfectly. It's a good representation of what has now been defined as "the new traditional", or "re-imagined traditional" look. Gotta have it!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I love them all but if I had to choose only one, it would be house number 1. I would have in in Suffolk, England nice and close to Bury St. Edmunds. Now if I were permitted to dream even bigger, then I would have house number four's foyer, staircase and kitchen layout, although I would prefer a lighter wood (if I was being fussy). In fact, since we're dreaming, I could have both? House number four can be in Beverley Hills. oh to dream.... Sally =) xx

  43. Oh my gosh Tina!!I wouldn't know!!....
Maybe the first one because of the gorgeous library!!!

  44. EAsy pick for me, #4 without the media room. I just don't like media rooms too commercial theatre looking for my taste. I did love the interiors of#2 probably because of all teh blue and white in the accessories. Great fun and thanks for such great images to choose from. I like this new series, it is all made up of DREAMS!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I wouldn't say no to anyone of these beautiful homes, they all have their own unique beauty… But, I love, love the casual yet elegance of the house #5. I love the bright and airy feeling, this house is just gorgeous!

    Have a great day!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Definitely house nr 5. The other houses are beautiful, but the difference between nr 5 and the rest is obvious. The rest (for me) is to formal and hard.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hands down, house #5. I prefer the inviting decor and more relaxed furnishings. I'd love that house and the grounds.
    What a fun game, thanks.

  48. So, Tina, I'm minding my own business, just doing my daily lunch-time blog reading and I come across the listing for house #4, located in what I call "heaven on earth"--Rancho Sante Fe, California. Is there a better place to live in the U.S.?? Spectacular home in a spectacular locale. My choice--hands down. Love your blog. Can't wait to see your finished home. It is gorgeous.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I can tell that this is a very popular series already! ;) What a great idea - you have a real nack for engaging your readers, Tina! I would definitely love to live in #5 - it is so comfortable yet beautifully done - everything I'd want in a home at the beach!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I would choose house #5. I love the relaxed feel and yet how chic and airy it is! Makes you want to touch everything! I like that in a home...feels more welcoming.

Looking forward to the progress of your beautiful home! Hang in there....!

    ReplyDelete
  51. How fun! I loved seeing what everyone had to say...what I dont' like about #1 is that they didn't honor (in my opinion) the classic traditional colonial in any way in the interiors. Though there are many pretty rooms, the ext. and int. do not match at all, just my 2 cents. As a designer this is taboo for me personally.

Number 2 has gorgeous interiors, really love them and for me this is spot on.

Number 3 is well done for that style, a little cold but obviously grand and really dramatic and killer views.

Number 4 is very frou frou. Obviously very grand and very expensive, but way too overdone on the window applications, I would rip all of them out as someone else above said too, but a very pretty space and very grand.

Number 5 is a great house, very welcoming, open and light and airy. I don't particularly care for the exterior, don't feel its architecturally a very exciting house and its a bit of a "builders spec-ish" looking but the interiors are really fabulous so it redeems itself! I so enjoyed this, thank you for some much needed deviation from my job! Now its back to the grind!

    ReplyDelete
  52. What a great post! I would pick house #2 for the interior, and house # 3 for the exterior. Even tho I loved house #1 and its simple modernish(?) furniture I just loved house #2.

    ReplyDelete
  53. # 1 speaks to me. But they are all beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Definitely #5 hands down!! That's a no-brainer for me. It's totally my style - I love the lightness of it, the whiteness of it, the comfyness of it, the cedar shingles and if it has a lovely sea view - DREAMY! :)

    ReplyDelete
  55. Number one is my favorite because of the warm color scheme and the comfy furniture and the stunning art! I love the colors! The art looks priceless.

    ReplyDelete
  56. OMG! love that first house. the kitchen and backyard is to die for!

    xoxo navy & orange

    ReplyDelete
  57. Definitely House #1 because it is similar to my own Georgian Colonial. We are in the process of contracting work for a front portico with columns and next spring hope to put in a pool. The stone wall gave me inspiration for our back exterior space..thanks! ☺

  58. I'm not anonymous-I'm Denise Adorian, just having trouble commenting on other blogs Boohoo!I adore#1 because every inch of it says ME:)

  59. # 5 is my favorite. It is light and bright and inviting. If I did not live there and was visiting, I would want to stay. It would feel like being on vacation all the time!

    ReplyDelete
  60. At first I thought #1, until I saw #5. I certainly would be happy in either!

    ReplyDelete
  61. OMG the first one! Sheer perfection!

  63. Tina,

This is just pure fun! I love houses and I'd take any or all if given the opportunity.
My choices would be house #2 because of all the architectural details and how it feels visually. In addition to that I'd also select house #3 because I've been in this house, worked on it as it was being completed (3 yrs.) and love the location. I plan to move to that city, which is up the coast from where I live now.

I am always amazed at how home designs and impressions linger in our minds and haunt our souls with details. We can't release those impressions until they are ours in some way, shape, or form. Live it to Love it is what I like to say.

    Bette

    ReplyDelete
  64. Definitely #1! Both the exterior and interior say to me "You're home!" #2 is a pretty close second, because I love the kitchen, dining room, and garage.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Wow, what a tough choice!

House #1, then #2 with #5 as the runner up.

Thank you for the lovely eye candy!

    ReplyDelete
  66. I like this game! I will have to go with #5, when there is a beach house in the mix, it is going to win my heart! But I am also drawn to #3!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Wow! I love number 1. But I really really love number 5. I think I choose number 5. Can not wait for house updates tomorrow. And I'm so glad you are not posting every single day.... I seriously would start to think you have a clone or something. It's nice to know you can't do it all... Like the rest of us!

  69. One if sensible, or Four - crazy over the top - but for fun would love to try it - four I mean

    ReplyDelete
  70. It's a complete toss up between 1 and 5 for me! I loved #1 immediately. The kitchen is always what I look to first and I always prefer a white or off-white. It looked comfortable and inviting yet still so stylish. I loved the office, the molding in the dining room, the view out the kitchen windows, but not too crazy about the bedroom decor. For #5, I can't imagine having that many buildings to call my own, but I did love that great covered patio/porch, all those coffered ceilings, beautiful kitchen, the serene sea of white, and it was a done deal with the theater!

    ReplyDelete
  71. I would choose the exterior of house #1 and the interior of house #4 minus the kitchen.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I love playing this game. Everytime I open an interiors mag I choose a favourite and a least wanted! No 2 would be my pick for my home. I love the muted and understated style. And that kitchen island that is 2 miles long! I would also be very happy with no 5 for my beach house - so light and airy and spacious! Fun post! x Sharon

    ReplyDelete
  73. love number 2 and 5... if they were for me... haha!!!

    ReplyDelete
  74. 1 and 5. I don't care much for most of the decorating in any of thme

    ReplyDelete
  75. I love the exterior of house #1 but the interior is a bit too stuffy for my taste. It would be the Nantucket house all the way for me. I would love to live near the ocean and Nantucket is my favorite place in the world!! xo

    ReplyDelete
  76. I would choose #1 hands down--I'm a traditional girl! I would definitely change the decor inside though, I do love that tent-like ceiling with the chandelier in that one bedroom! Decor wise I like House #5 best, but I also love the kitchen and foyer of House #2! This series is fun--great idea, Tina!

    ReplyDelete
  77. I would pick #5. It has a more comfortable feel to it than the others.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Number 1...all the way. It is perfect for me :)

    ReplyDelete
  79. Definitely house number 1, but I like the interiors in number 2 better . . . and 5 to vacation in :). Nantucket on the ocean would be perfect!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Definitely house # 1 or # 5, without question. Love them both, although I think somehow a few interiors pics from a house in Palm Beach, Sydney snuck into the Nantucket house shots. But no matter, they are all stunning.

    ReplyDelete
  81. #5 is absolutely perfect - light, breezy, casual with great spaces. Number 1 would be second choice.

    ReplyDelete
  82. #5--plenty of style and character, but not too fussy. While I want to live in a GORGEOUS house--I am realistic to know that with my family, it has got to be extremely live-able.

    ReplyDelete
  83. #5 It is by far the least fussy of them all, and has the clean lines and uncluttered decor that I love, as well as being light and airy. I would have to add or swap out a few things to make it feel more intimate though. I love white, but that much makes it seem a bit sterile at present.

    ReplyDelete

Would love to hear what you have to say......happy thoughts only please!!
