However, there are a few rooms we are determined to finish soon after we move in, namely those rooms we will be living in most of the time. The kitchen, family room, breakfast room, my bedroom and my sons bedroom are all top priorities.. As much fun as it is to plan a living and dining room, these rooms right now are on the back burner, but in due time they will get their well earned attention too. So I have been spending a good amount of time looking at furniture, bedding, fabrics, wallpaper,etc......some days my head feels like its going to twist and literally spin off my head, and yet on other days I feel so in control and so in tune with what I am wanting. Below are just a bunch of random things I have seen that I am loving, some I bought and others considering. What do you think? Love your opinions!!!
A VISIT TO THE GORGEOUS SAFAVIEH SHOWROOM! Oh boy this really made my head spin but I tried to focus focus focus and lo and behold was able to actually concentrate enough to narrow down a few things! Their showroom is incredible, and has every conceivable brand and type of furnishing known to mankind. It is important to know what you are looking for, otherwise its VERY easy to get ridiculously sidetracked! Below are some of the things that I thought were so interesting and gorgeous, click here to visit them.
Am in love with this Kilim bench for a family room or library.....thoughts?
Love the worn faded effect......
The colors are sooo exquisite!
I just love this chair for my sons room! Thoughts?
So fun!
Such a pretty little arrangement, took a pic just for inspiration
Love this blue linen tufted bed....not the bedding but love love love the bed!
I thought this mirrored desk was so pretty....it has a pale gold/silver antique leaf finish and its gorgeous!
THE MAKING OF A POWDER ROOM. Then I moved on to wallpaper....yes that endless nightmare paradise. Only problem for me is that there are so many incredible choices that it seems every time I turn around I am falling and falling hard for yet another beauty. But at the end of the day, you must think rationally and know that when you find something that you truly love, you should go with that first instinct. I do believe in them and therefore I have actually made a few choices!! Well almost, for my formal main powder room, I have ordered the floor below (LOVE IT) its a honey onyx "flower" with a white marble accent. I am definitely sold on the Schumacher paper which has a gorgeous metallic finish to it but then I saw a chinoiserie and it got me mildly confused. So, here is where all you "experts" come in.....want your opinion! Which do you like? Thanks in advance! I love a powder room to feel like a little jewel, have also enclosed pictures of the sconces and chandelier that will be going in there....to give you an overall "visual". Thanks! (bear in mind I am going for a very formal powder room here)
Already bought these, which I love I can use these in this powder room or....
These...both beautiful, the chandalier I am using is the one below...
And deciding between one of these mirrors for above vanity....
CHAIRS FOR MY SITTING ROOM/MASTER BEDROOM. Looking for beautiful, French styled comfortable chairs and to find chairs that I don't even need to recover because the color works is amazing!! (not to say I won't eventually recover them but they certainly work well for now) So I have ordered two of these from Safavieh, I love it and look how beautifully it ties into the wallpaper I have selected for our room along with a few fabrics that work nicely....
And I had to share with you, my very first mood board! I was sooo excited to finally figure out how to put one together, albeit a basic one. But I will eventually add more layers to it, however for now...may I present "my master inspiration".....
A CHAIR FOR MY BATHROOM. I love these two chairs from Curry, and have always wanted a beautiful delicate french chair in my bathroom.....do you have a preference between these two? Click here to visit Curry.
BATHROOM SCONCES FOR MY BATHROOM. Speaking of my bathroom I need sconces, though my bathroom will be one of the last to be completed (doing a good amount of woodwork) it will be painted a creamy white, has Calcutta Gold marble on the floors, and the vanity will be very similar looking to the one below (coloring wise) with polished nickel faucets.
So....now that you have this info, which sconce do you like?
SCONCE CONTENDERS ARE.....(have seen them all in person and they all come in the right finish and they all work)

PAINT COLOR. I have gotten several emails asking about what color we used for paint and trim in the upstairs hallways/bedrooms. I decided to go very neutral, for two reasons, A. namely because I am making so many decisions simulataneouly, that going neutral was safe and easier than choosing colors and B. I am also intending to use wallpaper in many of the bedrooms so the paint will be a non issue. In any case, we wanted a rich warm creamy white with white trim, so we went with trusty and much used Linen white, Arcadia white and White dove for the trim, all by good ol Benjamin Moore. It looks great and pretty much eliminates any second guessing.
So that's about it for my random musings.....obviously the house is VERY much on my mind and pretty much consumes my days (and nights) but its all in the name of getting it done and hopefully being able to move within the next 6-8 weeks which is very ambitious but I also believe in the power of positive thinking, and a few crossed fingers. (your prayers and good wishes can't hurt either)! Wishing you a wonderful weekend!! Would love you to weigh in on any of the above....value your opinion greatly!
I am a fairly new follower and wanted to let you know how much I have enjoyed seeing your beautiful house being built. It truly is one of the most spectacular homes I have ever seen!
ReplyDeleteHey! This was a nice surprise, to sit down and see a new post at night! Oh boy where to start, LOVE the bench and the chair, what a beautiful store. I would get so overwhelmed being in a place with that many gorgeous choices.
ReplyDeleteAs far as your bathroom fixtures and such, you have such exquisite taste I know whatever you do is going to be out of this world and there is not a bad one in the bunch.
Last your bedroom mood board is out of this world, cannot wait to see it all done!
I like wallpaper option #2 and bathroom chair option #1. How fun to make all these choices :)
ReplyDeleteTina this is the fun part!!! I am so happy and excited for YOU!! As far as the wallpaper goes I like the first one, it looks soft and elegant. I like the second sconce with the chandelier, the one with the bird will take away from the wallpaper and look contrived. I like simple and elegant and this fits the bill. just gorgeous. That floor is to die for. I did like the grey metallic, but the man looks mean faced!!!
ReplyDeleteIn your bath I loved the simple swing arm nicel sconce. It speaks well with the elegant but tailored bedding.
Not sure about the Kilim ottoman, but I am not a lover of rust colors. I have seen this look around quite a bit for several years so I think I am a bit less enamored with it because it does not seem like everything else you seem to gravitate towards. I should not pretend to totally know your taste, but I am going on my observations. Love the chair for your son's room!! I think that is all you asked about! Thanks for letting us be included in your fabulous, gorgeous project!! xo Kathysue
Kilim bench for library...it will undergo a lot of wear-and-tear in family room (depending on inhabitants, of course!). It is a stunning piece for a reading space..warm and it has sophistication. The union jack chair for a boys room is fabulous-perfect. For the powder room I like the smokey grey metallic background chinoiserie wallpaper better..the contrast of darker paper with the lighter flooring would look stunning. Love the cane chairs - that workmanship I have been a fan of for a long time. Looks amazing so far..
ReplyDeleteLove this store, such fabulous things, can't even believe I can start choosing anything, because I like them all!! The kilim bench is gereat, the morror, wow, the chinoserie wall paper is elegant and timeless! Love the sconces, just a matter of choosing and you have great taste, you'll do well. The chair for your son's room, just right. Terrific bed too. Can't wait to see your gorgeous house all done up! Have a nice weekend and thank you for visiting me and for the lovely comment. FABBY
ReplyDeleteOh to have these decisions to make!!!! OK, here goes: I do like the kilm ottoman! Those ARE my colors!!! And the chair for your sons room. I adore the second wallpaper!!!! Be still my heart! Also the second sconce if you choose that wallpaper. and the second mirror. Can't wait to see what YOU decide! XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteI lke the first one of everything. I you put your favorites first?
ReplyDeleteStacy
I have the same sconces that you are using! The second choice. They are in my living room. Love that kilim bench. Wish I had a place for it! I've been a fan of Safevieh forever and would love to visit their showroom.
ReplyDelete~Delores
The wallpaper should be the Schumacher for sure. I don't have a strong opinion on the sconces, I think any of them would be nice. I like the bench and I am not an orange/rust person, but it looks like it belongs in your new house to me.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to wallpaper I'm no fun. It seems to me people fall out of love with their wallpaper faster than anything else so I've shied away from it. With chairs I'm specific-it's comfort first and I like arms on my chairs.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
1. Antique Kilim rugs have been made & used perhaps for centuries in these colors, so using this bench is certainly not trendy. I personally think it would look and work great in a family room or library where you want durability. It would withstand feet or a tray of food & drinks, books, extra seating, etc.
ReplyDelete2. Definitely "yes!" to the Union Jack chair for your son's room.
3. Both powder room wallpapers are quite beautiful. If forced to choose, I think I like the first one. No wait! The second one. Hold on!My indecision has to do with not knowing how much natural sunlight & what exposure this room will get. And, what "feel" you want for this room. I agree that you want your powder room to feel like a little jewel box. The second (darker) wallpaper may be just what you want. All your lights most likely will be on dimmers, so if more light is needed no problem. BUT, that first wallpaper is really, really pretty too.
3. The second sconce. The "bird" sconce, to me, would look too studied with the bird wallpaper, and I don't like it at all with the darker wallpaper. While pretty, I just like the elegance of the second sconce & think it would go better with either wallpaper. (Just my own little humble opinion.)
4. Love the first mirror for the vanity.
5. Absolutely love the first chair for your bathroom!
6. Sconces for your bathroom: Will they be installed on the mirror or elsewhere? Will you depend on these sconces for application of makeup? Will they be mainly ambient lighting? Not knowing these answers, I vote for #1. None of the choices would be wrong, and I like all of them (some more than others). As time passes you may not become as tired of #1. Then, you could always cover the shades in a Fortuny, toile, elegant check (or whatever fits in with your decor).
Did I answer all your questions (LOL)? You have some wonderful selections here, and nothing you choose will be wrong. Have fun with it, and I can hardly wait to see what you choose! (Love your mood board.)
Tina,
ReplyDeleteYou have a wonderful eye to decorate and to bring all the perfect things together!!!
About that seat, I love the second one at most!! Gorgeous!!! And about the wall paper, hard to choose! Maybe I would go for the second you have shown! Anyway, I am sure you will choose all things right!!
xx
Greet
Hi Tina,
ReplyDeleteEverything looks just gorgeous! I loved the bed. Have you looked at Zuber & Cie wallpaper? It is French hand blocked wallpaper. It was the favorite of Jacqueline Kennedy and is in the White House. I know there is a distributor in the US. Just a thought. xo,Elaine
You've got exquisite taste, tina..i don't think you need any advice whatsoever..every choice you've made so far has been splendid..can't wait to see how the powder room turns out..there is every indication that it would be a jewel!! have a lovely weekend! xx meenal
ReplyDeleteEveryone is right, your taste is exquisite, doubt you will make the wrong decision. I will weigh in, LOVE the Kilim ottoman, FABULOUS chair for your son's room. Stuck on the wallpaper, love the new one, but as noted before, the darker background will give you a nice contrast to that stunning floor and envelope you in rich coziness. 2nd sconce, 1st mirror, and absolutely dreamy 1st chair for bathroom.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, it's all fabulous.
xo
Hi Karen...I just wanted to let you know that your the Winner of the "You are my Cupcake" Book. Can you please email me your Name and address to: Daisypinkshop@yahoo.com I will then give your info to the author and she will be mailing out your book soon. Congrats Girl!
ReplyDeleteDaisy~
Definitely sconce number one. The others are pretty but I just like the straight forward non-fussy approach.
ReplyDeleteHi, Tina,
ReplyDeleteMy two cents: the kilim bench is wonderful in a family room (looks good on a seagrass rug for textural and color contrast); The Union Jack is great for the boys' room; I like the first wallpaper because the coloring is softer and would use it with the second sconce (the first with the bird would look too matchy matchy); a slight preference for the second mirror; love the "wing chair" bed and its color for the master and the first chair for your bath. All the sconces are great; I cannot choose. Judging by everything else you have already chosen, I know your picks will be fabulous. It just gets exhausting at this stage to make so many more decisions, so just take a deep breath and go for it. We all have confidence you will wow us with the final results. Have fun.
Well, you can't go wrong with any of those choices. I am no designer by any means, but here are my thoughts. Love the second, darker wallpaper. It really makes the tiles pop. I'd take mirror #1. For your bath, I like the first chair and for lights, my favorites are 1 and 3 -- maybe 3 has a slight edge for me. I am enjoying following your house design process.
ReplyDeleteI love both wallpapers, but I think number one is the way to go for the powder room. Is there somewhere else number two could go? I love the deep background color.
ReplyDeleteI prefer bathroom chair number one as well. But when it comes to the bathroom sconces...I can't be any help there at all! Too many gorgeous options.
Your choices are all incredible, you cannot go wrong BUT since you are asking for me the powder room must have that darker metaillic paper (2nd one) it is incredible and you say you want it to look like a jewel the metallic sheen will do just that and I love the contrast with that fabulous mosaic floor, the other is safe and a little to monotone.
ReplyDeleteRe the bathroom chairs, love the 1st one, its a little more delicate, for sconces I like 1st one in that its classic and simple but the 5th one with a little crystal could be quite beautiful too. I cannot wait to see it all come together.
I love the colors you are using, Tina. The first sconce is absolutely stunning, and the chair by curry for the bathroom;perfect! I love Kilim rugs more than I can say.
ReplyDeleteHope that you are having a great weekend.
Teresa

GOOD MORNING SWEET ONE!
ReplyDeleteWOw I was away just for a little bit yesterday and I missed on so much! What a lovely post, as usual chez toi! Dearest, thank you for your visits....your words are kind and mean a lot to me and we do have a family of friends here in blogland that make our lives so much sweeter for the written word is like gold to our hearts. PEACE AND LOVE TO YOU TODAY! Anita
I can see why you're attracted to those gorgeous kilim colors. The glow of a blazing fireplace would enhance them even more. The Union Jack chair, with all it's great legroom, is perfect for growing boys. Ditto on anything with cream and black accents!
ReplyDeleteI'll go against general concensus and choose the 1st wallpaper. The delicate balance of flowers and birds blends beautifully with the soft shape of the onyx flowers. I like their similar color palette, and although it appears pale, in a dimly lit powder room the effect should be warm and enveloping...like the inside of a jewel box. With the chinoiserie, I'd prefer darker tiles - it's personal (sort of like choosing between dark or light grout with white subway tiles?)
I love both cane chairs. The 2nd has legs like your sitting room chair, but not sure that matters. I’ll choose sconce 5 for it’s light look, small shade, and crystal back plate which has just the right amount of bling! All in all you can't go wrong with any of these great options. Enjoy, and thanks so much for giving me my shopping fix for the day - ha!
I like the bird sconce. The crystal sconce is lovely but too similar to the chandelier. If everything looks too precious ,than nothing looks precious. It is kind of like too many focal points. Similarly if everything is of the same period and looks too similar than nothing looks special. In my humble opinion contrasts give a room that wow factor. However I do prefer the gold paper with those gorgeous tiles. The room will glow like a jewel.
ReplyDeleteHi Tina, here are my choices for your home:
ReplyDelete1. The Schumacher wallpaper with the yellow backround and golden leaves compliment the color and shape of the tile floor. I don't prefer the dark/light contrast of the chinoiserie. Besides, you are doing a chinoiserie in the other bathroom, right? My marble floor in my foyer has a border with a similiar color in the stone and I have Benj Moore Standish white on the walls..the cream/yellow of the walls really brings out the color in the floor and I feel the same would be for the Schumucher paper & your tile. The sconces would look better with the lighter tone of the room than with darker colors and may even look a little tacky and overdone. I say keep it light & airy and you will never tire of it.
2. Love the Kilim bench..fantastic colors. I am so bored with the gray & cream that everyone seems to be doing. Lately, I have not had much inspiration from the magazines either. I love to see color. Not crazy, bold color but amazing accent pieces with color like this bench.
3. Love the second mirror. The side mirrors just make it so much more fantastic and gives more dimension!
4. Love the colors in your mood board. Actually, this past week I changed my entire dining room to these colors and am so excited to decorate it. Love the Blue/green/cream color palette.
5. Love the french chairs for your bedroom.
6. The second (delicate) french chair is so much more amazing and eye catching. Especially is your grand home.
7. Please pick the 5th sconce! It's so different with the crystal back. Once again, many of these looks have been done over & over & over. Your house is so beautiful..make it unique.
Hope this helps somewhat. I spent all summer make some of these choices and the painters leave today..hurray! have fun Tina!
Susan, check out the Regatta chair on our website. Please, Please, pretty please make your next post a step by step instructions on how to make the mood board! Yours is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteBest,
Liz
Tina, we can't imagine how you must feel. Our heads our spinning just thinking about all of your choices. The chairs from Curry are beautiful and you can't go wrong with either. Love the blue tufted headboard! We would choose 1 or 4 for the sconces. You have such an eye for design so your choices are going to be great! XO Angela and Renee
ReplyDeleteTina, after leaving my previous comment I received my House Beautiful Sept. (The art of color)issue. Finally..COLOR! You need to see Pg. 118. The dining room features hand painted wallpaper (Stark) similiar to the Schumacher paper. It's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYou really do have your work cut out picking between that great wallpaper. While I love the first one, that Chinese man with the little umbrella in the second paper (darker version) makes my pulse race. Love it! I like the second sconce and possibly the first mirror. And it's a toss up between the chairs, though my first instinct was toward the second one. You are on the right track any way you go.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Liz at dovecote... I'm dying to know how to make a mood board!! Remember it was yours truly who introduced you to mosaic making ease!!
ReplyDeleteOk, love the chair for the boys room. Love the color in the Schumacher wallpaper. The first sconce is cool because it doesn't "match" the chandelier. Like the first mirror... Formal but not too much going on.... I think I like 5 the best for bathroom sconce... Love the crystal back!
Wow! I remember doing this when we built our house... You are busy busy busy!!
I love the kilim bench. And the floor in your powder room. That is so unique and different. Are you doing all this without a designer to help? If so - good for you! That is amazing - and sounds stressful but fun. Can't wait to see the finished product.
ReplyDeleteOkay Tina! First things first!, Buy the chair for your son's room and that gorgeous ottoman! Love the ottoman!!! You have great shopping days ahead of you! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteFirst wallpaper, second sconce, first mirror, kilim bench & unionjack chair, absolutely!Too many choices.Your home is going to be beautiful.Enjoy the process. It is such a blessing to pour your heart into the design & then see it come to fruition.
ReplyDeleteDying over these amazing choices, not a bad one in the bunch. the metallica paper is amaing and I would go for that, love the chandy and would do the swan sconce hands down. For the mirrors like either but the 2nd one is more interesting for the bathroom sconces in your bathroom like the first and last and love the 1st chair for your bathroom. I cannot believe how beautiful these things are. Are you sure you aren't some famous designer working undercover!
ReplyDeleteYour choices for the powder room are beautiful, that tile is amazing and so nice to see a different colour. Both wallpapers are heavenly, and you wouldn't go wrong using either. But I think I do love the metallic chinoiserie, as it's the same as one I picked, and it's gorgeous. Whatever you decide it will be lovely.
ReplyDeleteExcellent choices! I love the wallpaper and that onyx and marble floor is stunning.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
Beautiful, all!!!!! I especially love: mirror #1, chair #1, sconce #5 (mmm!) and the gray metalllic wallpaper! The chair and ottoman would be on my list too! However, you won't go wrong with any of your choices, you've got a great eye!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! I can't wait to see it all!
