Sunday showhouse.......and you're invited!

Just a short and very important note, then my post follows......

I know in  the tristate area, many of you have heard the tragic story about the beautiful couple with an 18 month old who have within 2 weeks of each other, unbelievably been diagnosed with late stages of cancer. I had a hard time hearing it, feeling powerless and heart broken for what seems like the unimaginable.  Then yesterday, I got a phone call from a good friend whose family is best friends with this couple and their family! She asked if she could send me their blog (started well before either got sick) and initially a blog to talk about their blissful life and the joys of raising a young baby. There is also a website created by family and friends, to raise money for them, since they are both knee deep in treatment and both far too ill to work. Elisa has been diagnosed with late stage 4 breast cancer and Nathan with stage 3 rectal cancer. Talk about putting my little problems and complaints in perspective. So below is the link to their blog as well as the link to the website that's been set up. I hope you will take a few minutes (I got so absorbed in it, I spent nearly 45 minutes reading through it) and say a prayer for them both and their beautiful little family.

Elisa and Nathan's blog-http://familybondingtime.blogspot.com/

Link to support the Bond family- http://www.friendsofnathanandelisa.blogspot.com/

Thank you. I normally would not use a frivolous blog that discusses paint color and interior design musings for something this serious unless it really touched me and suffice to say, it has.

Happy Sunday..... Its a day to relax, sit back and enjoy......and a day for my Sunday "house tour". Today we are staying along the Atlantic seaboard and traveling up and down the Northeast coast..... fabled location to many a quaint, charming and did I mention expensive coastal resort towns!
We are going to visit three ultimate dreamy beach houses....one on Nantucket, one in Bar Harbour, Maine and then finally down to Southampoton, NY. Each one, so beautifully done and built in the most picturesque settings with jaw droppingly beautiful views, decorated with being on the coast in mind. Though each is graceful and elegant, there is a laid back, very inviting appeal to each. So take a look, have fun and do let me know if you have a favorite and why!

NANTUCKET, MASSACHUSETTS. You arrive via ferry on a perfect summer day and are whisked off to your new oceanfront vacation house for the summer. Hope this fabulous home is up to your standards and hope you  will be able to adjust having to stare out at those views that go on for miles..not easy, but someones gotta do it! Definitely a great entertaining home, filled with lots of elegant but inviting furnishings. Love the bright sunlit rooms that take advantage of the incredible views from every window, and the pools not too bad either:)

BAR HARBOR, MAINE. Then we are off to another fabulous home, this one located in tony Bar Harbor, Maine the famous bastion of old money and understated elegance. None other than our beloved Bunny Williams decorated this stately and fabulously elegant home. I could live in that dining room alone.....the views and setting are almost hypnotizing. Think I might enjoy spending the summer holed up in this "beach cottage"...what do you think?

SOUTHAMPTON, NEW YORK. Last, If you need to travel to yet one more fabulous beach playground, then why not try Southampton? No stranger to fabulously grand homes, this one does not disappoint. Built and inspired by the grand coastal homes of yesteryear, quality was not spared in this large incredible family home, built for generations to enjoy. Large scaled comfortable and inviting rooms are decorated in a sophisticated but coastal style....with the views from that bedroom, I might never leave!

Are you ready to go?  I am! I could be happy spending a summer  lifetime in any one of these! You know I love to know if you have a favorite and why....do tell!  Hope you enjoy a wonderful and enchanting Sunday.

  1. oh my goodness, thank you so much for posting that blog. My heart goes out to them. I was an oncology nurse for a long time and that hits home. There's something special about those patients and their families.

And I have to say…i love just about EVERY single one of those photos! Oh my…please send me there! It's chilly here today with chance of snow in Baltimore, so I will have to look here at those lovely photos at the pool and dream!

  2. Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog today!

I can't get over how incredibly sad that couple's situation is. I will pray for them...thankfully they have family and good friends nearby.

  3. Tina-the situation with that couple is so sad, cannot imagine. Will visit the blog and website right after and keep them in my prayers.
This post is unreal! These homes are like something out of a fairytale..for me it would be between the first two only because I am not a Hamptons fan...but they are all spectacular!

  4. I'm thinking Nantucket because "it's not easy, but someones gotta do it."

  5. I love the South Hampton house so much! It's bright and airy.

However, after reading that young couple's blog, you realize that all this stuff takes a back seat to what really matters in life.

  7. what a heart- breaking news you have shared...things like these can shake one's faith in God..I hope there will be a miracle and there will be light at the end of this awfully dark tunnel for the family.

As for the rest of the post..I'll take the one in Nantucket..no question..there isn't enough space here to list the reasons...suffice it to say that 'it's serenading me and i can't look away'!! have a lovely weekend! xx meenal

  8. A prayer has been said, truly. I shook in disbelief & dismay. Cancer is close to my family. If there is anything to be learned & a source of comfort (at least for me)... is there is HOPE. If not the hope, you hope for. Can be the hope in mind & heart.IMO
First home OWNS my heart, OK the pool & everything.
Perfect in perfectly elegant simplicity, which we know is in no way simple:)

  9. I love Nantucket and we go out several times a summer but I’m sorry I will never understand a house that sits right on the ocean having a pool, seems redundant to me. But that house is stunning and I love the green they used in their living room, so fresh and spring looking. Out of the three this one would have to be my favorite, looks a little ore laid back.

My heart goes out to that young family and I can’t even begin to imagine what they’re going through especially with a little one. My God hold them in his hands as they continue their journey to hopefully full recovery.

  10. Wow - all those houses are stunning - I could easily live in any of them! I especially love the swimming pool in the last image.

But, on a more realistic note - I love the blue & white curtains in the first house - I've been thinking about what kind of curtains I want in my own living room.

Thanks for posting that link - I'll go and visit their blog right now.

    Have a wonderful Sunday!

  11. Tina,

You are right to remind us of our own blessings but it is difficult and it seems selfish when compared to the hardships people like this couple are facing.
After I read the post I got down on my knees and prayed for this beautiful family. I pray they are attended by conscientious caregivers, I pray they find the kind of peace that sustains them through this, the kind of peace only the Lord can give.
    My heart breaks for them.
What a kind soul you are. I truly mean that. I am a faithful follower of your beautiful blog and at times I have been fillled with such envy when I compared your beautiful home to my own. I lamented my choices in comparison to those you seem to have made more judiciously. I was an orphan, a ward of the state and to me, a beautiful home is the epitome of "success". I stand in awe and a bit of shame right now. What is truly important in life does not come from the "things" one gathers on their journey, but the love they sowed along the way.
I will remain a loyal follwer of this blog but not solely because of your beautiful home, or the images you share.
You are a compassionate sower of love and I want to learn from you.

    Tina,
These homes are amazing. I really can't choose just one. I like the dining room in the last one.
    Have a great day.

  13. Lovely homes, Tina.

My heart really goes out to this family. Cancer is such an awful scary thing. I just can't even imagine what they are going through. My prayers are definitely with this family.

  15. Very sad story. Iam going to go to the website and read about their story. Heartbreaking, and will keep them in my prayers.
On another note..gorgeous homes! I love all of them but the middle house in Maine speaks to me, because I spent a lot of my childhood years in Maine and its the calmest, most peaceful looking home of the three and thats what I would want in a vacation house. Lovely job.

  16. how heart breaking. I could not even imagine what they are going through.

    The homes are gorgeous.

  17. Such sad news but thank you for sharing it. Hopefully they are finding joy in the new life they've brought into the world and that will give them strength to fight.

I do love that Nantucket house. Beautiful!

  18. Thank you for posting the links, I had not heard about the family's situation, it is truly unbelievable. More amazing is their grace and dignity in approaching such overwhelming circumstances.

The Nantucket shots are gorgeous (as are the Southampton photos, I'm just more of an ACK person), I could camp out permanently) in any of those rooms!

    Sending you a Sunday smile,
    tp

  19. So very sad about what this family is going through. It is difficult enough when one parent is facing such a serious illness. I will keep them in my prayers, thanks for sharing.

On a lighter note, you had me at Nantucket. Truly my favorite place to vacation in the summer and with any luck I will someday live there! xo

  20. What a tragic story about that family. It's hard to believe that BOTH of them have been stricken with cancer. My heart goes out to them as well as to their family baby, family at large, and friends.

As to the houses, I like the Bunny Williams' design best, part

  21. I accidentally hit "publish" when I was trying to say, particularly the dining room. I think she always does such a good job on those.
