A penchant for pendants

Good morning....about the house update. We are nearly completely sheet rocked so the fun has just begun. Trimwork started yesterday and the bathrooms are underway...finally getting to the stage where we get to look at the pretty things! I have had enough of raw wood, sawdust, and unfinished spaces to last me a lifetime, its time to button this baby up! I took pictures yesterday and will post them on my post tomorrow.
Show me a room that has a pendant lighting that isn't beautiful. I love them...... they add elegance, soft lighting and a certain sense of proportion to a room. Used everywhere from foyers, to bathrooms and kitchens, you see them in outdoor spaces too. I love pendant lighting for their versatility. In my old house, I had them in my hallway, my foyer, above the staircase and in my breakfast room. I plan to use them once again in abundance in the new house. So today I showcase all the many wonderful ways to use this wonderful lighting. I am contemplating what kind of lighting to use over my center island in the kitchen since logically speaking, this will be and has to be one of the first rooms to complete. I like the idea of a belljar pendant or a large lantern type pendant. The best part? So many manufacturers make them, that they are very affordable and can be had inexpensively.....you don't need to spend a fortune to get the look, that's always a big perk! What do you think?
(I am also announcing an amazing giveaway on Friday...stay tuned)

  1. Very nice.

I think the only problem with pendants is that they are kind of inflexible. They are great over furniture that wont be moved, put putting one over the kitchen table means that the table will have stay centered there or it will look weird.

  2. Beautiful examples of pendants.
I have them over my center island and in my bathroom, they both look great and give a soft lighting to the room which I love. I love the idea of adding shades...great concept, I may have to give that a try for my kitchen.
    Beautiful pics as always!

  6. I adore a good pendant, and have found myself using them more and more. I live in the town Mark Maresca is based out of, so have easy access to several WONDERFUL houses he has done, and was lucky enough to tour a home he had orchestrated an amazing renovation on a few years back...he is a genius.

  10. Gee so many choices that you have your work cut out for you. Just remember that in a kitchen they have to not only be decorative and functional but easy to clean. Not matter how good an exhaust system you install, thee is going to be some residue that floats around your kitchen.

  13. Love those hexagon lights in that ginormous kitchen in the second image and the four black pendants in another kitchen. But I think my favorite would have to be the lights that Amy Morris used, love lantern style lights! Love them in my kitchen but the whole problem is I keep finding lights I like better, it’s a bear changing the lights out all the time!

  18. I love bell jar and lanterns! Especially love those pale blue ones used by Steven Gambrel!

Both of my boys' rooms have lanterns - one has a black one and one has a weathered blue.

I have a mix of light sources in most all my rooms and have a particular fondness for sconces!

Sounds like you might need to have a hard hat party soon!

  23. I love lighting and really love those oversized square ones! They remind me of some of my favorites from Urban Electric. I want to incorporate lighting into our remodel as we have way too much can lighting in our home. Alas, with the low ceilings from the 1920s I have to make careful selections.

  37. Those penchants on the high-ceilinged room looks amazing! I would love to see them in action at night, when they’re the only light source besides the fire place. It also helps that the entire area kind of converts to a sunroom when you open the windows to let the breeze in.
