Then we went to Princeton, NJ for a tournament for my son....it was a HUGE tournament with hundreds of teams but I was able to carve out a little time early one morning (on a Starbucks search) to take a few pics of lovely Princeton, both the University and charming town. The architecture is just jaw droppingly beautiful, most of the older original buildings are done in a Gothic Revival style with intricate stone work, incredible limestone detailing, stained glass windows that are a work of art and thick gorgeous slate roofs. I was in heaven! I guess intellectual minds do better in beautiful surroundings:) So it was a fun weekend.....busy, exhausting and we even got a monsoon thrown into the mix. We had rain, the likes of which I have never seen and then within two hours the sun was out.....crazy weather!
Anyway here's a little peak at some of the highlights of my weekend courtesy of my iPhone......
Also last day tomorrow to be eligible for the beautiful blue and white plates giveaway. Click here to read about it (you must comment on that post to be eligible)
ArtHampton.....this was sooo cool. The musicians are suspended about 20 feet up in the air.....very dramatic!
"The scene"
By far this took the prize! This was a newstand, approx. 10 x 8 feet. The ENTIRE stand was made from cut up blue jeans. You had to see this in person but the detailing was incredible!!!!!I mean down to the shine on Obamas face....can you image how painstaking this must have been?
Amy......loved her music (still do).
Arriving on Nassau St. in Princeton, which runs adjacent to the campus and is the hub of this charming downtown
You know I loved seeing these pretty boxwood orbs in the classical white planters!
Every building was simply beautiful.....so classic!
How gorgeous are the windows to this library? Only at Princeton would the lights be on at 6:45 am on a Saturday morning and no doubt there were people in there studying:)
The pretty theater building
I loved the intricate detailing on this magnificent limestone opening
One of the many charming homes that surrounds the outer perimeter of the campus.....so pretty! To give you an idea of the sheer breadth of this window it was probably a good 18 feet tall!
Idylllic Nassau St.....the "main drag"
Spotted this adorable corner bakery.....
My baguette radar was on high alert :)
The imposing gates to one of the best universities in the world
What do they say about the pearly gates............:)
Loooove the old slate roof, magnificent!
Even the darling Ralph Lauren just oozed understated charm
This beautiful building made me feel like I was in Switzerland or Germany....so pretty
Adore the flowerboxes!
The beautiful Shea rowing center...so beautifully set.
It was a hazy morning but so calm and serene......
And then the sun came out full force!
Shout out to my parents...they had lived in Rochester, NY and all I heard about was how great Wegmans was...so I had to satisfy my inner curiosity and went in. It really is a wonderful market!Only I would become enthralled with the shopping cart canopies/structures...how beautiful are they!! I wanted to take one home and turn it into my dream greenhouse:)
There was a beautiful array of flowers, and so much more!
There it is again.....
Just call me obsessed!
Back at the lacrosse fields and back to reality!!!!!
This was taken about 30 min. prior to a literal monsoon...it rained like I have never seen complete with lighting and thunder. Everyone was drenched to the core, all games were called off..it was quite a scene:)And when the sun came out....look what I spotted. A darling family of deer...this was a definite highlight:)
And then back at home.......
The Belgian block driveway project nearly done
Loved coming home to my beautiful white hydrangea trees, so in love with them:)
The hydrangea trees which will soon be put into their planters
Speaking of flowers..my beautiful white azaela topiary is coming back to life, put it in the powder room, hasn't flowered yet but it will soon!
And pretty hydrangeas cut from the yard and placed in my blue and white bowl
And made this pretty cheese and fruit platter served on the bread boards from my shop the other night before we left
So that's a wrap up. Hope you enjoyed. Wishing you a wonderful and relaxing Sunday!
Don't forget last day is tomorrow to be eligible for the beautiful blue and white plates giveaway. Click here to read about it (you must comment on that post to be eligible)
What a warm ((hug)) I feel as I see this luscious post from you Tina! This part of our country is SO charming and I am grateful to have lived and visited many parts of this region that you share. Oh that tudor building, that supermarket carriage canopy! WOW!!!! And your new Belgian stone driveway! But the best of all is to know you enjoyed yourself and GOT HOME SAFELY. It is so nice to see your new posts when you click, PUBLISH!
ReplyDeleteWe had a super evening last night, eating our dinner in our enclosed deck. The fountain was singing in the background, the little fairy lights were twinkling, and we made new summer memories. Happy Sunday my dear! Anita
I have to admit I've never been to Princeton but now I will. I have a few friends that teach there so it'll make for a nice visit and I get to see some stunning architecture. Glad to hear you had such a nice time. I'm going to show your driveway to the husband since I've been trying to get him to lay some Belgium blocks at the top of ours. Ok tell us about that deep purple hydrangea it's gorgoeus! I need to add it to my purple garden.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Sunday!

Ha, just watched the movie 'Admission' last night starring Tina Fey as an admission counselor at Princeton! Thanks for sharing all the lovely pics of the actual campus and town. Don't get to see much of that charming architecture except in movies, as I'm way down here in South Texas... thanks for sharing with your adventure!

Tina, so glad that I am not the only one who snaps pics of seemingly mundane things, e.g., shopping cart stalls:-):-):-) Love it! On my visit to NYC recently, my friend commented that I was such a tourist, because I was snapping photos of everything in sight:-):-):-) Went to Plaza Hotel and hoped to visit the famed Bar, only to find that it was gone...Will make reservations for High Tea next time! Thanks for the look at Princeton and your beautiful new driveway!

Been to the bakery several times in Princeton. I miss Wegmans too, used to live so close to it before I moved to the Carolina's.
ReplyDeleteTina, I have not been to the area where iconic Princeton is located, so thank you for the beautiful tour!
ReplyDeleteI love those timeless, classic architectural designs of the buildings as well!
The back to your gorgeous home! Always a treat to see the latest!

What a wonderful looking weekend. Love the look of that fun party...how awesome that the talent was suspended by 20 feet in the air...and that campus is beautiful. And then welcome home! That's a retreat in itself!
ReplyDeleteTina my dear, dear Tina!
ReplyDeleteThank you for coming by; yes, balance is something that came to me as I was in California last week and just barely came home this past Tuesday. Seeing an older relative's life CHANGE made me even more acutely aware of trying to be conscientious about what I DO NOW and how it will effect my future. Oh life is wonderful if we stop long enough to ask questions of ourselves.
Have a SUPER SUNDAY! Anita
What a wonderful weekend, Tina!!! ArtHamptons looks like so much fun. Can't believe that news stand made of jeans. Although I was raised on the East Coast, I never had the pleasure of visiting Princeton, NJ and obviously it is my loss! Great pics on your iphone!!
ReplyDeleteTina that looks like a really great weekend. Princeton is beautiful. We fell in love with it when we visited a few years ago, my daughter had been waitlisted there and ultimately attended another ivy where she is so happy but I must admit we both fell in love with the charm and architecture of the University.
ReplyDeleteThe art festival looks like such fun and that denim exhibit is incredible. Amazing what some people dream up. I love your hydrangeas in the blue and white bowl and that belgian block is so elegant. Thank you!
Loved reading this post. Beautiful photos. The color of your hydrangeas in the bowl are outstanding. WOW..I didn't know that a hydrangea tree could be grown in a container. Really like that idea. Thanks for sharing your adventures every day with us. I am always amazed by the beauty of your posts. Bonnie in WI
ReplyDeleteSuch a gorgeous area Tina and I hope to get there someday. Speaking of getting there.. hope you got into that corner bakery!! Those are always so much fun to pop in for a quick treat. The newstand .. how interesting is that? Always enjoy your home pics and your hydrangea are gorgeous! Your powder room bathroom paper is so pretty as are all the detail in the room. Well done! Enjoy a relaxing day Tina!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful experience, Tina. I love Princeton, the 1st blind date I ever had was with a Princeton guy. Oh yes....total gentleman!
ReplyDeleteTina, you never ever disappoint. Oh I remember those lacrosse days well my son lost interst after the first brutally hot summer and decided he preferred our backyard pool and hanging with his friends to hard core summer sports haha. Today he is happily relaxing at a good Florida university...I found the summer circuit to be survival of the fittest. He wasn't one of them :-)
ReplyDeleteMy husband grew up near Princeton so we know the area well and you pictured so many of the wonderful parts of it. It is a gorgeous university. Love all your flowers especially thy hydrangea trees. I am now on the hunt for them after seeing yours.
Have a nice lazy Sunday.
Thank you for a stunningly beautiful post, Tina. I have always loved being in an interesting city, town, or village on a cloudy/rainy summer day; the colors seem brighter when contrasted against a moody sky. We have finally gotten a couple of Wegman's here in the DC area. I know I'm alone in this opinion, but I was utterly overwhelmed at its hugeness. I think I'm more of a small market kind of gal, where there are fewer (but great) choices. Marilyn in Mt. Vernon, VA
ReplyDeleteHi Tina, oh how we love Wegmans. We don't have one here but we sure do miss it. But you need lots of time as they are very large markets with so much. My husband who loves to cook used to spend hours there, I joked that he should get a part time job there.
ReplyDeletePrinceton looks amazing. What a beautiful place to go to school. I love exploring and discovering new places. The Art Hamptons show looked so neat, that jeans exhibit is out of this world. We love art and try to go various events when they come around. Lucky you to have attended, love the way the musicians look like they are floating. Fun post.
Happy Sunday Tina! Your weekend included the best of both worlds. I have spent most of the last 4 years on Lacrosse fields supporting my son. We never had the opportunity to go to such beautiful places like Princeton however.. What a charming place. I would never want to leave. I have alway had a special affinity towards the old brick and ivy covered university campuses. Just lovely. Thanks, as always, for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog. I don't normally get into blogs.....this is my first. Loved the jade green ginger jars .hope I'm eligible to win in your contest. Pat B.
ReplyDeleteYou are my favorite blog.Blue and white is also my favorite. Loved the bathroom set and the large cachepots. My living room and dining room are blue and white with touches of ironstone lustre .P.S That denim work at the Hampton show was fabulous. Wonder how long it took to assemble. Should be in a gallery.
ReplyDeleteTina,
ReplyDeleteA wonderful weekend in photos! I love the ArtHamptons denim work, my goodness that was fabulous!
Princeton looks beautiful, much like the campus of the University of Chicago. Beautiful old buildings that make you feel as if you are in another country.
The tournament sounds like fun, how did your team do?
I LOVE your topiary trees, and cannot wait to see them in their planters! They look beautiful!
I hope you are having a quiet day, enjoy your cheese plate and a nice glass of wine.
Take care, Elizabeth
Great exposure and tour of Princeton. That is probably as close as I will ever get to it, so loved seeing the quaint streets, buildings and stores. Love your powder room and the azalea should do well there.
ReplyDeleteLove it...the baguette radar. I have one of those too and a chocolate radar, hehe. Wonderful post full of goodness and beauty. Princeton looks so beautiful and what a charming city. I had no idea!
ReplyDeleteMy son plays on the summer circuit for soccer so I know all about weekends away, we are gone almost every weekend July and August, it gets crazy but he enjoys it so much, that it makes it so worth it.
Love your driveway, your flowers and that gorgeous cheese display!
Also that amazing denim display, that is a true work of art.
The world through your i-phone is a pretty incredible place...let me know how your dinner turns out. Have a great week. Mona
ReplyDeleteI love your lengthy posts, full of pictures! I live in the South, and seeing and hearing about your "neck of the woods", is delightful. Your home is just beautiful and full of inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI love Princeton, and all your photos of the weekend!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely lovely blog. I felt as though I were right there!
ReplyDeleteSo fun Tina! My cousin's son was supposed to go to that tournament at Princeton but she opted to stay with us on the mountains. I wonder if your son is in her son's league! Small world! I was in Southampton today and thought of you! Loved your pics of your busy weekend! I too love people watching. XO We will have to meet up here in NY one day!
ReplyDeleteI love Princeton too, thanks for sharing Tina. It is quaint in it's own way with a European flavor. Love your Hydrangea trees! Is there anything more beautiful?
ReplyDeleteEmily @ Town and Country Shuffle
Such beautiful iPhone pics, Tina! Can't wait for you to see my weekend thru "my" iPhone! LOL! It's a bit more laid back but still impressed even me! You can't beat a beautiful setting like Princeton and you certainly can't beat a wonderful Lacrosse tournament! Boy, do I miss them! Loved the family of deer! Hope you've been doing well! Hope to have my market/concert pics up by tomorrow…we shall see with the way things are going right now! Loved getting to see this tonight!
ReplyDeleteSeeing those beautiful pictures of Princeton almost makes me want to go back to college again...almost. Lol! I would have stopped for the bread though. ;)
ReplyDeleteLove these pictures of Princeton. Wonder if they accept people in their 60's?! Ha!! As usual, love your posts. I want your hydrangea trees!
ReplyDeleteLoved tagging along on your excursion, Princeton looks lovely but your hydrangeas are astounding!! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWhat is it about college towns that are so much fun?? I think we all wish we could go back and re-live those days. Princeton is such a great town and a beautiful school (never mind the academics!)...It would have been fun to have one of my children attend there but the Princeton admissions office thought they might enjoy other schools better! :)
ReplyDeleteLove your hydrangeas!!
Your posts are AMAZING:) and they make me smile everytime I visit in here.
ReplyDeleteCheck out my blog....If you want to see a beautiful Swedish country styled house:)
