Hi Tina!

Thanks so much for allowing me
to share my house with you
and your enchanted followers today.

You gave me a lot of great questions to think about.
It's been so much fun coming up with answers for you.
So here we go!

How long have you been in your present home?

In June it will be eleven years since we moved into this house.
I do not know where the time has gone. Two kids, two dogs,
two cats -- too busy! We've made so many wonderful memories here.
It's a great old casual family-friendly home.

Anything you would care to change if you could?

Yes! There is one really big thing I would love to change.
I would like to spin the house around! Let me explain.

The building once stood on a very rural 20 acre piece of property.
There was never a farm house,  just the barn/stables building,
polo field, and pastures.

In the late 1970's, the property was subdivided and this building
was converted into a single family home. A neighborhood was
built around the structure and our house ended up facing backwards
on the street. I really wish I could change that!

If you could only live in two rooms of your house,

which two would they be?

Probably the kitchen and the tack room, Tina!
The kitchen is where everyone ends up when we entertain
--  like any home. The tack room is small and cozy and
I love to sit in here with my morning cup of coffee,
or when I am chatting on the phone!

The tack room

How would you describe your decorating style?

Traditional English country for this home, though I love so many different styles. I have a decorating business and an antique business that I share with a girlfriend so I am always out shopping and buying things. I try to collect what I love and hope it all works when it comes together in a room.

Do you have a favorite color scheme? What is it?

I love earth tones.
Browns, creamy tan shades, greens, and warm reds
with a touch of dark blue here and there.

Best two tips you can give to anyone looking
to tackle the decorating of their own home?

Hmmm... that's a good question!

1.)  I always try to help clients define a color palette when they begin decorating their home. Once they decide what colors they love, it is important to carry those same colors throughout the main/public spaces in their home. The rooms should flow from one to the next using different versions of those same selected colors.

2.)  Never be afraid to ask a professional for help. If you are not exactly sure what you are doing, hire a designer or decorator to assist you, even if it is for a few hours here or there.  Believe it or not, it will save you money in the long run. Furnishing a home is a costly endeavor and you don't want to make expensive mistakes.

How do you like to dress up a cocktail table
and console in a living room?

Gather up something fresh, something to read,
and something collected!

Start with a fresh flowers, potted greens or an orchid,  then add a stack of your favorite coffee table books, and finish it off with something you have collected (old or new)  --  a great accessory piece.

Have a favorite paint color? Do tell!

I love the Benjamin Moore shade called Philadelphia Cream.
It's a warm buttery tan neutral. Not too much khaki and
not too pale, just perfect.

  Philadelphia Cream HC- 30

What are a couple of really simple things you can do in your home to make it feel "homey" and inviting?

Buy antiques and or vintage pieces!

There is such a trend to buy new items (specifically accessories)  from catalogs. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with this, but do so sparingly. If you get too many new pieces, your home might end up looking like  --
a catalog.

I think it's much more interesting to collect older one-of-a-kind pieces to add to your rooms. If you become a savvy shopper, you can find great deals out there and even better -- you probably won't walk into a friend's home and see the exact same pieces.

Find pieces that reflect your personality and your interests. That's the best way to make a house not only a home -- but truly yours. :)

Thanks again for inviting me over
to share a little bit of my home today, Tina.
It's been an extreme pleasure!

~ Alison

  2. Good morning, Tina! I am completely wowed and charmed all at the same time. I happened upon Alison's blog just this week and was smitten. But, her home has me wanting to invite myself over for coffee. The kitchen is one of the warmest I recall seeing. I love how she has embraced the origin of her home and given it a true personality. Her styling skills are off the charts, too.

  9. What an incredible home. She has such a great style. I love it! Her warm and inviting kitchen is so wonderful, it feels old fashioned but still fresh. I love how she did her hutch, I am copy to try to use her hutch as inspiration for a beautiful hutch my parents just gave us, but I am clueless on how to decorate it.
    Wonderful post!

  11. Love the house, and especially love the kitchen. I have a fondness for lamps on either side of a sink - it makes a kitchen much more like a decorated room.

We have many houses in Atlanta (specifically, Buckhead) that were build on big estates, and the land was slowly sold off over time, so the house no longer faces the road. There is one house in particular, I always wondered why it did not face the road, and when it was on tour I learned that it did face the main road originally - now it is entered on the side road - because the large estate was broken into parcels.

Hope you have a great week!

    - Holly

  13. I am so horse crazy, have been all my life, and miss our horse farm so very much, which was decorated in a quite similar style. Brought back so many memories of my own paneled tack room, with saddles & bridles on the wall, and the fragrance of saddle soap that was used daily. Beautiful home and extremely welcoming with the use of her color choices. The kitchen island is gorgeous. I have never stopped loving plaids. Makes me want to build again pronto and go back to this style! Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed my late morning coffee so much more today! Cheers to you both!

I can see the home has its own personality and style and love the way she honored that with how she decorated it. Beautifully done. Thanks for sharing to you both.

  17. Wow! Gorgeous Tina! I've seen bits and pieces of her home but have yet to be taken on a full tour so this is a big treat. The equestrian details are perfect, love all her colors and the hard wood everywhere. It adds so much warmth .. and the kitchen! The island is beautiful and her bar stools are so darling with the skirts. The home is sitting on lovely property and is stunning in every way.

    Great interview Tina!

  18. Hi Tina, I love this series. Its so neat to see inside these talented ladies homes. I am so impressed with how stately it all feels, she really stayed true to the style and integrity of the home. We bought an old home ourselves and tried hard to do the same and funny, the only thing I would change is the way the home is situated on our property, the approach is wrong for the size and grandeur of the home, but its home, we love it and embrace it even with its little quirks. I love her kitchen hand painted chairs, those are just beautiful.

  19. What a dose of eye candy! I love how the rooms strike a perfect balance between the rich, masculine Ralph Lauren world, and the lighter, feminine every-day world. Just love it! Thanks for inviting her over!

It is a home that has many layers and looks as if it has evolved over time. Beautifully appointed, Kudos to Allison and thank you for the introduction!
    Happy Spring Monday!!

  24. What a lovely home, cozy, stylish, love the red tile in the hallway too! The kitchen is spectacular... the tip she gave about colours in the house is really good, I agree, that is why I painted the whole house before we moved in it...to make sure it is well connected and works together. Brilliant tip, I think lots of ppl who don't work in this area would make the mistake ...or stick with white walls and decorate with a selected pallete (:
    Great read....thanks ladies.

  25. Loved all her advice and tips. Yes agree buying old vintage things is so much more interesting, they really are one of a kind, I love her palette choice and the way it is carried throughout her magnificent home. The picture of the chest with the two chairs in the quail fabric is to die for, her kitchen is so charming and welcoming. She really showed so well how you can combine elegance with warmth in how she has done her home. Fantastic post ladies!!

  26. What a treat! This house is so beautiful. I love how welcoming and homey it feels. I bet its where everyone in her family wants to go over the holidays. Love the style and all her good advice. I like the idea of establishing a color scheme to be carried throughout the entire house. Where was this post when I needed it!

I am struggling with certain rooms, and finally convinced my husband to hire someone to help us finish up some spaces, so I was happy to hear she thinks its a good move. So far we are making great progress. Excellent post, am going to go visit her blog now, thanks for the intro Tina.

  47. Tina, you picked well to showcase this magnificent home full of love, carefully curated items and warmth. I love her style. How fun to also get her great insight and advice, I agree those one of a kind antiques are wonderful additions to just about any home and are great things to hand down to the kids. I just inherited a magnificent 18th century grandfather clock that had belonged to a great great grandmother in Virginia. It is so exciting to think about the homes its been in, the hands that have touched it over time. Thanks for a wonderful eye candy of a post.
