Things I am loving Thursday and house updates!!

Good morning everyone!  Oh boy, loooong week here, patience wearing thin. Haven't done much of anything that isn't somehow house related (but some exciting things nonetheless) and I thought this was going to be a shorter post than usual but as it turns out ironically its turning out to be a lengthier post than usual..so hope you have a few extra minutes on your hands, to sit back and relax for a few! Also I got a lot of questions regarding sconces, cabinet colors, etc....am getting that information for you together and will hopefully post answers on Saturday.

Anywho, things are buttoning up, and we really might be able to move in by Thanksgiving. By the skin of our teeth. In sleeping bags. Just kidding about the sleeping bags part. I am hoping, crossing my fingers and my toes and very much counting on it, but its cautious optimism at this point my friends and could go either way. So first results from our weekly "Which would you choose" then house updates and then a few other goodies. Not a lot of goodies, mind you as I really haven't had a lot of opportunity to do much that isn't house related but I am not complaining!

Here are the results of this weeks "Which would you choose"......must say like many of you indicated, I was really torn between a few, and happy that 2 of my tops made it into the finalist rounds!
Here we go......

                                            1st place with a whopping 51 votes

2nd place tied with 40 votes a piece

3rd place with 26 votes

4th place wtih 16 votes

Now onto this weeks post.....

HOUSE UPDATES. We are making big progress, yes I know I have been saying this for a loooooooong time now. Believe no one feels how long its been more than me! But at last I really am starting to see a light at the end of a tunnel here. Carpeting is getting installed today! Doorknobs got put in late yesterday and look fabby. I cannot wait to have an "unwrapping and cleaning party". Never will housework look like and be so incredibly joyful as it will that fine day.
Everything we have done is pretty much all covered up with paper, special cardboard (our builder is very meticulous) the only downside is all the beauty is well covered up and frankly I am a little tired of seeing all that paper!  A big development was the installation of the floor in the tower...LOVE is the only word that comes to mind, I really am thrilled with how it came out.
I just want to rip it all off and stare and marvel at all we have done. In due time, I know. To some including my husband who thinks I am delirious it might seem crazy, but I still want to be in there right before Thanksgiving. Yes, the whole house will not be done, yes there will still be lots of work going on and yes it will be a major pain that no doubt I well curse myself for at least a few dozen times BUT at least I will be home. That's how I look at this...I am ready, have been ready and just about reached my threshold. Got there pretty late so the outside pics for lack of a better word are pretty pathetic, but you get the idea.....

Front entrance making headway, it was just about dark by the time I got there...

The long awaited entry/tower floor!!!!!!!!!!
Love it.....

Samples for backsplash for kitchen, its a yes! FINALLY!

Family room timbering all done, first coat of paint is starting

Faucets are in .......
Ceiling is done in kitchen....one more thing done there!

AMAZING DEALS AND STEALS  ON FURNITURE. Who doesn't love a bargain? Well I for one LOVE getting a deal and I hit the jackpot over at Safavieh's warehouse sale!! It officially begins this weekend in Port Washington, NY but we were able to go over ( a small group of us for a preview) as one of my friends was buying things for her daughter who lives out of town and she scored big time and of course I found a few goodies too!  Its in their monster of a warehouse, something like 150,000 sq feet and feels like an airport hanger!!! Its HUGE and chock full of the best deals I have ever seen of furniture, lighting, accessories, paintings, antiques,etc....its endless!!!!!! If you happen to leave within driving distance and want info click here.  Here is the lowdown.......
How about this gorgeous chaise for $695!!!!!!!!! Got it for my sitting room and going to recover it in a fabric that works for my bedroom thought this velvet is mighty pretty.....
And this settee for $695!!!! I am brainstorming as to where I could put this!
Bought this as an extra chest for somewhere, maybe guest room for $700!
My friend got this beautiful Belgian inspired set including 4 chairs for $1300!!

This beautiful black French end tables...were around 400!
Thought this was very pretty for a kitchen, my friend bought it for her breakfast room

I got this English center table for our living room, its very substantial and gorgeous!
Love what they put on all their boxes....and boy are they ever right!
Isn't this a great looking little chair for a ladies desk? I bought one for $295!!
These two tables and chairs were so increidbly reasonable! I love the Belgian/European feeling.....great for a beach house, don't you think?

They got in a container of beautiful rustic Brazilian antiques that were gorgeous
It went on for what looked like MILES.......
Loved these small elegant end and coffee tables, the workmanship was incredible!
Stunning rug!
Theres my table again.....its a real stunner in person.

I bought this French chandelier to the left, isn't it pretty?

My other friend bought this for her daughters first new home (shes a newlywed) for $375!
I love this scalloped chest and am debating on it for the family room
Close up of the other chest
Isn't this antique pair of 12 foot antique Brazilian doors just grand?

POSSIBLE SLABS FOR MY ISLAND. So....my good buddy and I made a day trip and drove upstate to CT. and saw two slabs that actually work really nicely with my kitchen and current countertops. Only problem is that this company is also a fabricator and they want to do the job whereas we have already contracted a local person to fabricate the entire house. So..now we are trying to work this out. This is the first marble I have seen that works so I am excited but only if we can work out a deal. I am hoping, here are the pics, if you look carefully you will see a small piece of marble being held up next to them,  that's a piece from my countertops...what do you think? Feel free to weigh in.......its a really good match, the veining is very nice but not overpowering as some are. I don't want it to take away from other things going on in the kitchen. Fingers crossed. Anyone who has shopped for stone I know understands what this is all about.......
So here's the match, the small piece at right is my current coutertops

ONE HECK OF A DELICIOUS DINNER. OK I loved feeling like I was Mario Batali, actually on second though lets go with Giada, yeah I think I like feeling and looking like Giada better:) So Tiffany over at Savor Home,(awesome blog by the way that I  newly discovered)  posted her ridiculously professionally looking pictures of this dish for a contest and shared the recipe. I was so inspired that I made it that very night. Well......Let me tell you in four words....OUT OF THIS WORLD.
It was not difficult, and it was soooooooooo good. The key is getting really good clams, I was lucky we have a fabulous seafood shop not too far who caters to all the restaurants in the area and they get the good Manila clams (vongele) and I cannot tell you how delicious this was. Not a drop left!! Sharing the recipe with you, its a "must make" kind of recipe. You owe it to yourself and to your family to do "the right thing" :) So I am using Tiffany's amazing picture..because we all know there is no way I could take one that could look that good!  Recipe to follow.....
Spaghetti with clams

  • 1 pound dried spaghetti
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 shallots thinly sliced
  • 5 to 7 cloves garlic finely chopped
  • 2 1/2 pounds Manila clams, scrubbed clean
  • 1/2 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine
  • 2 tablespoons butter, diced into small cubes
  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 lemon, zested, for garnish
Directions
In a large pot, bring to a boil 6 quarts of salted water. Add pasta, stirring constantly in the beginning to prevent it from sticking together. Cook until al dente about 8 minutes.
Meanwhile, heat the olive oil in a large saute pan. When almost smoking, add shallots and garlic and saute until soft and translucent, about 3 to 4 minutes, being careful not to burn the garlic. Add the clams and wine. Cover and simmer for 6 to 8 minutes or until most clams have opened.
Add 2 tablespoons chopped parsley. Whisk in butter to thicken sauce slightly.
Drain pasta in a colander. Do not rinse pasta with water - this will remove the pasta's natural starches. Place pasta into the clam saute pan and mix thoroughly. Check seasoning.
Pour pasta into large serving bowl. Zest lemon over the dish, being careful not to zest the white part of the lemon, which is bitter. Garnish with remaining parsley. Serve immediately and be sure to save an extra helping for yourself (Giada would not say that she would say make sure your guests have plenty first but when you see how good it is you will see why my advice trumps hers)

That tower floor is fantastic! And I cannot wait to see the limestone entry completed. All the bathrooms are so elegant.

Now onto those deals..wow! Wish I lived closer I would drive up to that sale in a red hot minute. Cannot believe the prices. Fantastic. Love the chaise, chest and chandelier, very elegant.
You did great, Tina. Good luck with the marble, looks like a great match.

Cute totes, being a teacher I am always on the lookout for good functional types of carry all bags. Thanks for the lead.
Wonderful post. Thursdays over here are my favorite...off to work now! Have a great day.

  6. Aww! Best birthday present ever! Thanks so much for the mention! And you are so right. The freshest clams make the best dish!

Let me tell you, your house is stunning. I love the ceiling in the family room and the kitchen is my dream kitchen. Maybe I will be making spaghetti and clams in a kitchen like that for my family one day! I also love the tile in the bathroom. And gosh you found some great furniture. That chandy is a stunner. I can't wait to see how everything comes together.

Thanks again for making my day!

  8. What a goldmine of a sale! I love that first settee especially and would have gone crazy over those Brazilian antiques. What fun!!

  9. The front entry and the tower floor look fabulous, Tina. I think the marble slabs would be perfect, if you can work out a deal...just enough more defined veining than the perimeter to make the island stand out in a subtle way.

    Have a great, stress-free week.

  12. Hi Tina,
This is my first comment on your wonderful blog although I read every word from each post and so enjoy your passion for this gorgeous dream home of yours, not to mention your excellent taste throughout the construction. I am commenting because I don't want you to diminish this incredible home by filling it with furniture unworthy. I feel Safavieh has some wonderful things but PLEASE don't be tempted by the pricing to go to all those "wannabes". I am attached to your house ( crazy as it seems) ...love their Belgian inspired BUT PLEASE don't drop your level of taste NOW!! I am loving the whole process ...ps the bathrooms are incredible.. Xo

  13. That furniture sale looks like fun and it's close enough for me to drive down to, oh honey.....who can pass up a bargin? Love all your sons baths nice thinking putting a bath in each of their rooms. Love your slab and totally understand about the veining I don't like it overly busy either good luck getting it from the stone yard. Looks like you've had a busy week!

  14. ohh love the english center table. I have a smaller antique version with a leather top in my living room, looks great with books stacked on it! and a blue/whitelamp or vase/bowl with orchids of course!;) like Oscar de la Renta's Punta Cana home as shown in Vogue Living Houses, Gardens & People..love that book!

  15. The house is looking good! Too much to mention but it all looks fab. From where I'm sitting, that marble looks like an excellent match. Hope you can get something worked out there! One thing I have wondered is how much of your existing furniture is going to the new home and how much you will have to purchase. Love the pieces you found at the warehouse sale. I have had a Scout bag like that for 3-4 years and love it! I use it as our pool/beach bag and everyone always asks me about it.

  16. I have never built a house, but since I read every single week about yours, I dream of building mine. I know it's not easy at all, right? But how wonderful it should be to do everything the way YOU want! I feel so happy your dream is coming true. Beautifully true, my friend!

Have a great day. I have a very busy one ahead! :-)

  17. Bonny is so wrong...your home should be filled with what you love and a mix of price points and new & old..that's what makes a house a home.Buy what you love Tina! as long as you love it who cares..Furniture styles come & go and when you buy something at this cost you can change it out or the fabric when you tire of it, if you like. It was refreshing to see you post items that were not so out of reach for most people. I am in that upper 3% of income and I buy a mix of furniture & tiems at all levels and everyone tells me I have a beautiful home. Have a great day Tina!

  18. Another wonderful post. I want to go shopping with you!!! I love this place. The settee is dreamy. The price would have been at least 4 times that if I had found it in Texas. Oh, the rectangle dining table with chairs would be coming home with ME had I been with you.

Your home is really taking shape and I know that you want to move in before it's done. I don't blame you. However, you will have worker's in your home...with all of your lovely, personal things....My sister had to do that and it was crazy. I WOULD DO IT, TOO!!!

Thanksgiving is a magic time and it is like a deadline for things you have going on in your life. I am VERY upset that my family room furniture is taking 12 to 16 weeks. I have thought about going to IKEA, picking up a sofa and some fluffy chairs for the holidays...then selling them after our furniture comes in.

The marble going into your kitchen is wonderful. As you said, it is NOT overpowering. This is a very good match and that is NOT easy to do. The conflict of the supplier being a fabricator as well IS a bit of a problem. He might put a hefty mark-up on these pieces since he will only be the material supplier and will not be making any money from the fabrication. I would absolutely try to work with him on this.

The entrance to your home...I believe that is limestone, correct??? Anyway, I could stare at that for hours. Yesterday, you posted a lovely entrance with a topiary on each side of the doorway and beautiful flowering ivy...I can see that here. So European and inviting.

On to the recipe...one day, I will surprise everyone and make a dish that is yummy and beautiful like this one. I don't want my hubby having a heart attack, however. My quick standard recipes are all he has known for 30 years.

I must go...I am so sorry I write a book when I reply, however your posts are like a mini vacation.

  19. That tower room floor is incredibly beautiful, well done! I think if the house is not done for Thanksgiving you should pack up some turkey, a dining room set and have it in the new house anyway! The house is coming along wonderfully. Diane

  20. Oh WOW! Tina I don't know where to start. I keep scrolling back up to go through your post again. Your home's charm and details are really coming to light now. I can only imagine the excitement you and your family are feeling now. I love the furniture you've selected and would I love to live near the furniture warehouse. All the marble slabs are gorgeous, how will you ever choose. This is the fun part, enjoy.......

  21. APPLAUSE, APPLAUSE! That tower floor is to die for! And that entrance! I am amazed at all the details. Just amazed.

By the way, I stole a picture of one of your sons' bathrooms for my inspiration file. It is stunning. Where are those elegant sconces from, the ones in your youngest son's bathroom? They look so solid, yet glam!

And I can tell your workers are very methodical, by the way the screws on one of the light switches are all lined up. The devil is in the details!

And oh, I wish I lived near Safavieh, I'm a big fan since I won the bench! They have amazing things, very much on trend.

Have a great day Tina, don't overdo it.

  22. You are amazing Tina! How you can be doing all of this and blogging is a major feat! The house is wanting you to move in too~and get to putting your stamp on it with all of the beautiful things you have found. This Thanksgiving will be one to remember, and while everything will not be in its place, it will be fine, because you and your boys and hubs will all be finally at home! The marble looks great, hopefully it will work out. Loved the frenchy things you scored at the warehouse! That velvet was very pretty!

  23. Hi, it's Bonny again just to clarify.....I in no way meant to communicate Tina needed to spend extra dollars on furniture and I do not feel the amount of money spent on something reflects the quality or beauty of an item. I LOVE a bargain but with Tina's keen eye for style and quality, I felt the darker stained pieces of furniture she showed from Safavieh would diminish the wonderful architecture.....I agree always buy what you love!!

  24. Hi Tina. The tower floor is wonderful and the entrance door looks amazing~ I love the bombe chets that you bought for your family room with the curves. I have a black one in my formal lounge and you cant go wrong with it. Thanks for stopping by my blog>

  26. A new reader: I am intrigued by how old your sons are and whether those kinds of bathrooms are really suitable and were chosen by (teenage?) boys. Somehow I doubt it! Was anyone else in your family allowed any input into the design of any of the rooms? Your home does look impressive and obviously a fortune has been spent on it - but do you ever wonder whether you have created a pastiche of the French country chateau

    ReplyDelete
  27. Love your house updates! Those trusses in the family room are just amazing. The inlaid floor is too. It is incredible how much there is to do at the end. You look like you're almost there and then in reality, little adjustments and one more visit from the tile guy, or the plumber, or the electrician! Good luck in the home stretch!

Looks like there were some great deals at Safavieh!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Tina- it just gets better and better. I hope you and your husband are giving yourselves much credit for the outstanding job you have done. Here in Texas, many very expensive homes are also built but very few with fine taste and even fewer with the integrity of their original design origins. Your home will litearlly look likes its been there 100 years when its all said and done. Just breathtaking. Showed it to my architect who is well regarded down here and he was mesmerized and extremely impressed.
Pay no attionten to "anonymous" up above, as usual these people are cowards who cannot reveal their name and stand stand behind their taunts. Shame on them.
As usual a fantastic chock full of goodness and beauty kinda post. What a beautiful way to start my day...thank you.

  30. Tina, everything looks amazing! Your house is coming along. When is due date for this creative venture your on? When you think about it, it will be like giving birth. You have worked on this home for so long. Nurturing it, pouring your self in to it and giving it love. The creative process is amazing... I also cant believe the deals you got! Shoot, wish I was there.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Seriously, I am no coward, but you will have no idea who I am so posting my name is irrelevant. I have recently moved to the US from the UK and am amazed at the design/styling of houses that goes on here - and not at all in a good way. I live in a very affluent area and see ridiculous, ostentatious properties that are laughable by European standards. Sorry if that sounds harsh - but it's true. I just cannot believe that marble "everywhere" is considered to be the epitome of good taste. It's the height of soullessness. What about some originality/real style and creativity somewhere? Before I bought the house I eventually did, I saw a new build which was so over the top - 5 bathrooms all in grey/white marble which the developer thought was the height of style. Who would ever want that many bathrooms all looking almost exactly the same. And one of the things I can't understand about your boys' bathrooms is why on earth they have let you put frilly little feminine sconces by their mirrors. Ye gods! How are you going to handle any masculine clutter they will inevitably make. This house looks like a composite of museum pieces from Europe, not a real home. Actually I can't figure out whether the whole blog is a joke, a tongue in cheek p*** take if you will. Although judging by lots of the comments, many readers are quite convinced of it all. You Americans are a very odd lot indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hey Tina! I sure hope you will remove the above comment, that is so rude, and anti American. GO BACK TO THE UK!

Anyway, loving the updates this week, you are getting so close, I can feel it. I can see it now all the top design mags will come calling very soon and to think we all got to see it from the ground up! So beautiful, always leaves me breathless.

Thanks for that delicious sounding recipe. Going to try it for sure, one of husbands favorite dishes. I LOVE your marble, I really hope you get it as I know you must be so anxious to get that gorgeous kitchen done. Good luck with that. And your boys bathrooms are to die for. I hope its OK but I saved a few of the pictures for my files (we are renovating and starting the kids baths in Feb) love everything you did.
Great totes too- good to know with Christmas around the corner.
Be well and take good care of YOU!

  34. Wow. I love the updates. You are getting so close and I am so excited for you. The sconces you chose are all incredible.. I love all of the marble, the mirror trim, the kitchen, the tower floor, well, everything! Wish I could go to the furniture sale - what great prices! I will be heading to ADAC in Atlanta to look at furniture. You have got me in the redecorating mood, big time!

  35. A+ for all you have done. I am so incredibly impressed.

  36. Hi Tina,
The UK just called, they are looking for that angry bitter anonymous lady above. They just want to be sure she is not coming back. ha ha
Tina, does this new house make you happy? I bet the answer is a big ole' YES! It's your house and it should! If everytime you look around and feel that wonderful warm feeling then you are home!
I LOVE your house but even if I didn't, I love that it makes you so happy.
Love, love, love all the marble.
Have a great rest of the day.

  37. That anonymous person is so uninformed and probably has no taste. I have the same sconces that your older son has in my son's bathroom. Your home (and it's already feeling like that) is full of unbelievable craftsmanship and thoughtful, artistic details.

Can't wait to check out the tote company...looks like good Christmas gifts. (for me!)

  38. Part of the fun is reading over others comments, and most echo what I always say..how much I love your gorgeous home. However that anonymous poster up there from the UK, those remarks were very strange. Feminine sconces, he/she must need glasses, they are PERFECT!

And saying it doens't look like a home but a composite of museum pieces, give me a break. What is so special about your house is how much you despite the size HAVE made it feel so warm and cozy, I can feel it even in the pictures and hopefully you will have a big ol blogging party there one day...JK!

Seriously, keep up the great work. It is so awe inspiring. I have learned so much coming to your blog. I cannot tell you how often I get great ideas from you including great resources. Do you mind sharing your sconce resource?

Oh yea, you must get the marble...its PERFECT.

  41. Tina, you always get such great responses to each one of your posts. It's clear that you get many different reactions. One thing is for sure, we all love our homes--no matter how we think they should look.

I became an interior designer because of a favorite author, philosopher and interior designer, Alexandra Stoddard. This morning, I was re-reading some pages from her best seller, "Living a Beautiful Life." This is what she said, "Home is the extension of our essence. Home is what we make it. Shakespeare was right: "When I was home I was in a better place." When Charles Dickens traveled to America, he wrote to his best friend, the English historian John Forster, that famous line, borrowed, I suspect, from John Howard Payne's "Home! Sweet Home": "...there's no place like home." All the rituals we perform at home are done to express our feelings. We can't care enough..."

Your exuberance for life is so apparent. I really admire that.

    All the best, Cindy

  43. Tina- I am a newer reader and this is the first time I am writing you. I have enjoyed following this extraordianry building project with you. I just want to say as a European (from Belgium) married to an American living in Birmingham, your excellent taste has honored the European tradition of fine craftsmanship and elegance to perfection. I adore all you have done. I wish you great luck as you complete all the finishing touches. I look forward to seeing this beautiful home all furnished with your great taste. I also love all the beautiful furnishings you saw at the sale, many lovely things.

  44. Tina,

I am absolutely in love with your home! I have a couple of questions/comments for you.

    1. In your Youngest son’s bathroom, below the sconces it appears that there may be a “hidden” door of sorts, is there?

    2. Storage – I’m not certain if you are like me or not in that with every season/holiday out comes different decorations, have you designed a special place in your new home to store your off season decorations? This has always been a dream of mine – to have an entire room that is completely organized with shelves/drawers/linen closets to store all of my decorations when not on display.

    3. The scalloped chest for the family room – I say YES! Love it!

    4. Love the marble it is beautiful. I think my favorite room so far is your kitchen!

    5. The front door to your home is PERFECTION!

  45. MADLY in love with your home and every single piece of your new furniture!! That English table you got is called a Rent Table. Each drawer was assigned to a flat and that is where the tenats would leave their rent $ each month. I'd probably leave lipstick in there as well to freshen up as I leave my building!! :) I'm currently in the market for a Rent Table as well. :) You're is perfection.

  47. The entry tower floor is soo beautiful! I just love Thursdays because I get to see all of the amazing things happening in your home! I'm obsessed with your kitchen. It is so stunning! Sorry people are unhappy enough in their life to criticize something so tasteful and beautiful. Even if it's not for them, I don't get why they have to write something negative. I'm so excited for you to move in! It's going to be so amazing!

  48. YAY! THursday! Wow, if you move in by Turkey Day I will be MOST impressed. The entry way floor is AMAZING. LOVE! And the slabs looked good! Such a finger crossing journey. Love Scout too.
Great post Tina...it will all get done!!
    Smiles to you today

  49. Oh Tina! I don't know if I have said this, but thank you for sharing your enchanted home (and life) with us! I love seeing your home and your decorating style!! You are ALWAYS on target with your decisions! Is the tower the entrance you will always use? Or only for special occasions? I assume you will have a grand chandelier over the floor medallion/inlay? Oh how grand!!!

I also love Scout and have many of their bags. Have you seen the camo print? Great for your sons for hauling laundry home from school :) Thinking Christmas gifts here!

    xoxo

  50. That floor!!!! Amazing....just love it!!! Is that the main entry?

Move in day, sleeping bags or not, will be such an exciting day for you!!! I can't wait to see a post with furniture going in. Speaking of furniture...that chaise and settee are beautiful at such amazing prices.

Have a Scout bag in my trunk - keeps everything from rolling all over the place. Such a great product...in any pattern!!!

Hope you can make time for a relaxing bath tonight!!!

  51. Sounds like Anonymous lost her marbles! :) King George II and Michaelangelo must be turning in their graves - marble soulless?! The actual definition of soulless is (a person) lacking in sensitivity or nobility.

OK, now on to your noble ventures. LOVE the scalloped chest. I've had my eyes on Wisteria's bowfront chest for a while now, so if the one you found is under $1400, grab it!

The Spaghetti with clams is delish! I can tell :) Just skipped over to Savor Home - LIKE!

I know you get a lot of compliments but I just want to say your house has good bones, and will stand the test of time with it's classic styl...sort of like Marble Hill House in West London.

  52. Is anyone really going to know or ask how much Tina spent on any particuliar piece of furniture or accessory? I think not. I bet if Tina said she bought it at a higher price at some fancy store you would think it was great! It's all prospective. Btw, it's HER house not YOURS so don't worry about what she chooses to put in it or how she chooses to decorate it.

  54. Tina, I share your wish to move in! When we built this house we didn't ahve all the windows in, only 4 electrical outlets worked (extension cords were snaked everywhere) and it was COLD! We slept in our CLOSET with a space heater. But we didn't have a choice, we had no where else to go:):) I love the marble, it will be a great match. The furniture is wonderful. We all have to furnish our homes with what WE love, no one else. WE live in our homes and with our decisions. If it speaks to your heart, you will be happy. I am grateful that I didn't listen to some people's advice along the way and did what I loved. Blessings to you and your family. XO, Pinky

  55. Tina - I have to giggle when I see your gorgeous beams... When we moved into our house about 10 years ago, my kids were little and the boys would through things up there (while with a babysitter) and there is still to this day a hackysack and a beanie baby or some little thing... You can't see them unless you are standing in a doorway and looking just at the right spot, but believe you me, I found them! They are probably a bit dusty by now... haha
    Looking good, as usual,

  56. Oh, Tina, your home is coming along beautifully. The timber in the family room left me breathless. Then I was treated to the images of your sons' gorgeous bathrooms. It is so much fun to see the details come together. Already can't wait for next week's updates!

  57. The progress is stunning! I think that marble slab would be perfect--that is such a difficult find, so I hope that it works! Crossing my fingers you will be in by Thanksgiving--how exciting!! The deals at the Safavieh warehouse are out of this world--wish I lived closer!

  59. Hi Tina, I could not help but read the ridiculous rant above me and though its your blog have you considered not allowing anonymous posters? If not to keep the hatred and jealousy far far away. This is a happy place whoever you are and we don't want your bitterness here.
I am always in a happy place when I come here and don't want anyone spoiling the experience. JEALOUSY IS AN UGLY TRAIT.
Now that I got that off my chest, haha, I cannot believe you are in the home stretch! How wonderful for you. Everything is so tasteful and elegant. The kitchen is a dream as are all the baths. And that new floor- wow!
You must be so excited, I cannot wait to hear the good news, that you are finally moving. Take care of yourself and don't work too hard, I remember when I moved into our new house last year, a week later I got a horrible head cold, I was so ragged. So take good care and take extra Vitmamin C, spoken like a true mom.
    Good night!

  60. I agree with Lisa! I'll never understand why anyone would comment negatively on a blog. It is so generous of you to share this with all of us and if people don't like a blog they can move on. Why be hurtful?? Your choices are impeccable you make it all seem so easy. It's a pleasure to read your blog and I love the variety of what you post. And I can't get over the prices on that furniture!! Wow!!

    Have a lovely evening!

  63. I have been guilty myself for thinking this blog has been a little over the top, however, we all want to live the dream, we can not always just dwell on the negative and what is so very wrong with this world. Let's try to find a smidgen of happiness when we can & embrace it. While I understand what the anony poster is saying, I also want to see the positive side and the joy in living the good life. Some of this may be excessive and unobtainable to most, but there is nothing wrong in wanting a better life for your family. I'm sure Tina does her part to contribute in her own way. Let's not be judgemental.

WE ALL LOVE YOUR HOUSE TOO! IF YOU DON'T ACCEPT ANONYMOUS POSTERS ANYMORE YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE SUJECTED TO SUCH PETTINESS.

I just know it will be showcased in lots of publications should you decide to take the offers. I for one would be thrilled to do a post on it when it's finally finished! 69. Tina,
I again continue to marvel at your commitment to blogging. Where in the world do you find the time? this post is UNbeliveable. The house is spectacular. The new floor especially, but the boys' bathrooms are amazing, too. Straight out of a magazine. And the Safavieh sale, oh you can't imagine my jealousy!!! Those DO seem like really good prices for gorgeous pieces. I might have to start going to NY more often. We have the Boston Design Center, which is amazing, but I bet my clients would appreciate those prices you found - I know I would. See, I'm talking myself into a trip right here in the comments :) xo

The home is looking spectacular! You must be terribly excited at this point to move. I really hope you get your wish to be there by Thanksgiving. How wonderful it would be for you after all this time. We will be in Egypt for Thankgiving (we are both freelance photographers) so it will be interesting!
I have two Scout bags and love them, they are really durable.
And that recipe....eventually when we stop this crazy schedule I look forward to staying home for a solid week cooking nonstop to make up for lost time, this sounds really tasty.
The best to you and happy holidays, will check back in Dec. when we come back right before the holidays.

  76. there is no such thing as too much silk or too much marble in my book really... so unless i'm missing something here...keep doing what it is that brings you joy. and i will keep reading your blog to see what it means to fulfill a dream. there are lots of assumptions about the blogger and how she spends her $. i can only assume she is generous in all areas of her life including supporting the local artisans and stimulating the economy. as far as her boys bathroom, people are sooo petty focusing on a shade and then claiming it's not appropriate. who made you the design god!!

  80. Tina,
    Your Project is fabulous!

    UK Anonymous,
You're a pretentious fraud. I have been in homes all over Europe, regardless of country, most hundreds of years old, and it's hard not to recall a single bathroom that wasn't done in marble--with walkways literally worn in the floor. It's a practical surface that won't have to be redone in 25 years.

    ReplyDelete
  81. WOW! I am just in constant awe over your home!! It's simply gorgeous and I cannot wait to see how you decorate and pull it all together! All of the furnishings are beyond stunning!

  82. It is looking absolutely beautiful!!! Love all of your warehouse finds. I cannot wait to see your next steps!!!

  83. Good Lord! Some of these anonymous comments are deplorable. Tina, JUST DELETE THESE when they come in! You are doing a wonderful job and we love following along.

  84. Anonymous said...
Seriously, I am no coward, but you will have no idea who I am so posting my name is irrelevant. I have recently moved to the US from the UK and am amazed at the design/styling of houses that goes on here.

SERIOUSLY? Oh- How I LOVE the haughty English (and my grandfather came from England where you guessed it-he had marble bathrooms).

The more I think about it- I think this person is NOT fron England at all. I think this is some troll, sitting in a basement with no window to the outside, coming in here just to stir up controversy...that's what I think. You notice "she" is not beneath reading, and responding to, the comments made about "her". A REAL person identifies themself and claims their words.

  85. Tina, this is my first comment on your beautiful blog. UK anonymous' comments made me realize I am guilty of much enjoyment, but not sharing my gratitude with you.

Thank you for sharing everything about the planning and construction of your home. It is fascinating, intriguing, gorgeous and instructive. Your enthusiasm and love of design and style is refreshing because it comes from your heart. I appreciate that you are not blogging to sell your services.

I have been to Europe many times. One of my favorite pastimes is visiting historic places. I wouldn't say I am obsessed with architecture, but it's up there pretty high on the list of things I love. Not only is the building interesting to me, but the people who designed and built it are fascinating. You are not expecting me to theorize or guess! :-)

Again, thank you for generously sharing your home. It's my dream to create a home exactly the way I envision it. Congratulations to you for having the opportunity to do just that. Best wishes to you and your family for much happiness.

I think you are very tolerant to keep those rude and insulting comments on your blog. If she is not interested in your details or your home...why keep reading. I don't get it. As far as where or how you spend your money...unless you are getting it from her...it is none of her business. If she is so enamoured of socialism...why come here??? Perhaps for a better life for herself???Yes I would think so.
Not everyone has to feel comfortable living in your home...Just you and your family . Thank goodness she does not have to live there as well!
There is no justification for rude... Not even if you are a socialist from the UK or an absurd British Royal.

  87. WOW, the house is looking fabulous, you must be getting so excited. Do you think you will be in by Christmas????
I too loved that chaise but I bought the small sofa, I found it at the Ballard Designs store in Atlanta and it is in my daughters bedroom at our lakehouse, I have had a lot of compliments on it, but did not get such a good bargain as you LOL. Keep posting pictures, Thursday has become one of my favorite days of the week now!

  88. The entrance foyer floor is a dream...well worth all the thought and agony, and the boys bathrooms - so handsome!! Unlike anonymous, I have loved every Thursday post, and can hardly wait for the progress each wekk. I think most of us agonize over decorating decisions no matter how small - after all- we will be living with these a long time! Aren't Scout bags the best. I have abused mine to death on airplanes and cars and it hardly looks used. Hope you're having a great weekend ~

  89. Your dream home is absolutely magnificent!!! I just discovered your blog today. Thanks for allowing others to look and experience the process along with you.
I enjoyed looking at your "Heavenly Homes" tour and was wondering if you happen to know who the builder/architect is of the Georgian Colonial home?
I am interested in viewing floor plans of similar homes or if you know of any websites with that kind of information? Thank you and have a lovely weekend!

  93. Beautiful!! Thanks so much for sharing, I always enjoy seeing the updates. We are in the process of a kitchen remodel and I am curious if your kitchen cabinets are a pure white or more of an off white? I am so torn on whether to do a white-white or creamy (more yellowy white). I appreciate your advice! Keep posting!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Love all the choices and purchases you made for your home. You really got some great deals!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Where to begin - well, as usual the house progress is stunning and all your beautiful choices are coming together so well, and I just can't wait to see how it's all going to look in a few weeks. Love all those stunning bits and pieces of furniture you found, would happily take all of them especially love those velvet chairs, the tables and kitchen cabinet. And I still can't believe you are having to deal with pesky puerile idiots having nothing better to do than write nasty comments on your blog. Can't imagine what they are saying, but think you should just ignore and remove. Don't waste time acknowledging them, it gives them power. You know your genuine readers and subscribers wouldn't write anything like that, so not worth even validating it with a comment. Ignore them and they'll go away. Just make their comments disappear as if they never happened. And remember spiteful people are motivated by jealousy and envy, insecurity and fear. You are above them all, you have a blog that is popular, brilliant and universally loved. You are the tall poppy and they simply want to cut you down for being too successful. The only positive is that if you didn't have such a great blog with so many readers and comments, nobody would bother taking the time to try to rattle you. So take it as a kind of perverse compliment! Mx

    ReplyDelete
  96. Love the updates, your house is so pretty. I think I would have done the tower floor in a warmer, golden hue myself, especially with all of the warm-tone paneling that you have installed, just think it would have flowed nicer. But, it is still beautiful none the less. Can not even imagine making all these decisions. Are you by any chance in the constuction/build business?

    ReplyDelete
  97. Ok - so case in point, you have so many comments on each post!!! Why do you need mine? LOL! Just kidding - I know, I'm going to do better about posting my I love you's because I know comments are nice.

Ok - had to say, I LOVE LOVE LOVE your back stair, your beams and cathedral detail in your family room/living room, your kitchen is AH-Mazing!!! And I can't believe those bargains at the Savafeih (I know I misspelled that) showroom. WOW! Gonna google to see how far that is for me - probably 6 hours, but worth the drive for sure.

  98. Changing the particular kitchen countertops is just 1 step up your goals to have the ability to renovate the kitchen, but it is actually considered the biggest phase by simply loads of. It really is possible to actually come up with a statement about your kitchen and your residence with the proper choice of counter top material.
