A tribute to an old fashioned July 4th.....

Happy July 4th! Have been gone since late late night as  I normally feature my "Sunday showhouse"on Sunday morning so will be back with it next Sunday.  Hope everyone is well, happy and relaxed. Whatever your plans are and have been over this holiday weekend...hope the weather is cooperating. So far, so beautiful over this way. We are going to two parties later today, but I will take the earlier part of the day to "veg out" which I am so looking forward to!

When I think of July 4th I cannot help but think about old fashioned July 4th parades in a small quaint town, beautiful white clapboard homes draped in their red white and blue best,  homemade fruit pies from this seasons best fruits, family togetherness, cute kids in red chipped wagons waving their little American flags with a dog by their side and of course the quintessential July 4th BBQ!!  I think the words old fashioned and July 4th are synonymous, at least to me and its an ideal I want to hang onto. Life today moves so fast that I get great pleasure as  I would suspect many of you do too, in reliving things from the past, as they once were, a time where time did stand still and life was simpler.  So this post is all about an old fashioned tribute to July 4th....enjoy!
This is to me the poster child for a beautiful and patriotic home on July 4th

July 4th is synonymous with BBQ...lets eat!

So whats in store for your July 4th holiday? Hope whatever you are doing is wonderful, relaxing and enjoyable! Happy July 4th.....see you on Tuesday!!

  1. I'm with you, I like the old school world of celebrating July 4th! These images depict a very special day of togetherness and an appreciation of living in America! We are in the Hamptons and luckily the rain never hit us yesterday. We've had a wonderful weekend and today we'll celebrate with boating, a BBQ, flying our flag, fireworks tonight and being grateful for being an American!

  4. Happy July 4th to you too. Today we are going on my brothers boat and having a picnic (weather permitting)
tonight we go by the harbor and watch the fireworks, do it every year. I too love the nostalgia of a July 4th from the past, it is nice but hard to imagine a time where the pace
was slower and life seemed less hectic. Sounds really good though! These pictures are all so pretty and really calming.

  5. Even though I was raised in Europe, my family made it a point to be in our Hamptons house by July 4th so that we can have an all-American celebration... your pictures remind me so much of that time! Hope you have a great 4th!

  7. Love the old time parade photos, those with the little ones in the wagon and riding their big machines. Adorable. Brings back memories of mom and dad, going to the parade, I can still feel daddy holding onto my little hand not to get lost in the crowd. Sweet Memories!!!! Thanks, a great 4th post.

  15. Well your post sure brings back the memories! I was visiting my folks on Martha's Vineyard, where there is an old fashioned street parade every 4th. Anyone can enter a "float"...and this summer I had the idea of painting our old beach wagon red, white, and blue the night before the parade..so everyone, from my then little boys to my parents grabbed paint brushes and we painted the wagon with stars and stripes and swirls until the entire thing was covered in a patriotic paint job. The next day dad dressed up as Uncle Sam and got behind the wheel, while the rest of us in red white or blue joined him in our home made float through the streets of Edgartown! What a fun family time that was~thanks for pulling it out of my memory archives Tina! Happy 4th to you and yours.
